Sadly, my experience of the services at Dunn School of Music were awful. I was treated like an…read moreoutsider before I even entered the doors, which is nothing short of unchristian. Amy had read my 6-page curriculum vitae noting my 30+ years experience as a musician and teacher and somehow saw me as some kind of a threat. She never heard me play or sing. She never reached out to see how my lessons were going. My guitar teacher spent half my lesson time talking about himself and playing his own guitar while I was forced to sit quietly and look at the clock. He ended class early many times and I had to remind him of my hour lesson on several occasions. I was relegated to the earliest lesson time possible so I would have zero interactions with other students and teachers. I wonder if other students are treated this way, or is it just the gay ones? He came out to my mom's house and was able to tune her old upright in a timely manner - I was in no way rushing him out the door, but it was a surprise gift so I couldn't let my step-father see him sitting there. I enjoyed talking with Butch during the tuning, we had similar tastes in musicians and in styles. He was very friendly, polite, and did not shy away from sharing his knowledge of his craft. The El-Ramey service was the most affordable in town, and I would recommend them to anyone in need of the service. Give them a call and set up an appointment - you won't be disappointed.

We went down to look at it. After seeing him with the guitar, my son (who plays guitar well) thought the guitar might be a little too small. We asked what the guy helping us thought. He honestly told us he thought a three quarter guitar would be a better choice. He did not have any but sent us to a nearby shop he said might have one. That is great customer service.

I enrolled my daughter in a weekly Kindermusik class here in February 2013. The teacher is Melodee…read moreWynne, who is also the founder and director. The class is so much fun, and my daughter has learned so much! It's a great place to socialize your tot, which was my main reason for attending. Melodee has a progressive curriculum that includes song, dance and games. The program is a "Mommy and Me" style of interaction, and there are great parents and kids that attend. The cost is very reasonable ($50/month when I attended in Spring 2013), and classes are held once a week on Wednesdays. Burgaw and the immediate surrounding areas do not offer a whole lot for toddler education (daycare doesn't count) that incorporates interactive parent and tot activity in a group setting, so I was excited to find this Music Academy. As far as I know, neither Wilmington nor Jacksonville offers Kindermusik classes, so I'm glad this is so close and convenient to our home. Highly recommended!
