Great selection of wine, beer and spirits. The staff are really helpful and chatty. I usually go in for wine and they have a wide, wide selection at a bunch of different price points. They also has a large fridge full of wine, which for some reason is unusual in Ireland, but you can have your wine cold (which I am informed is the best way to drink white wine). I wish they had more 'notion cider' in stock too, but no marks lost as it's always hard to find in Dublin. read more

Redmond's is a local off-licence that has gone from strength to strength despite competition from the likes of Oddbins or O'Brien's. It used to be like going into a pub to buy your alcohol but it's turned into a really nice offie now. They have everything that you could possibly need. They were one of the first people to have Kopparberg and they even have random things like little bottles of champagne! Redmond's is an excellent offie that is bright and welcoming. They have an excellent choice of different spirits, wines and beers. They also have my favourite jumbo sized bottles in the store window for decorations. The one great thing that Redmond's has that most places don't have is a selection of different tequilas, whereas most places only have the old standard Jose Cuervo. By this I mean they have the greatest tequila known to mankind PATRON. It's nearly impossible to find in Ireland so I think this is a great indicator of their huge selection! read more

this store has much wine and beer that are difficult to find elsewhere. One entire wall is dedicated to just beer. They also have a good selection of spirits. The price tends to be a little higher than you can find elsewhere, if you can find the items else where. I have heard that periodically they will have tastings in their store. Now can I tell you that the lack of customer service and the rude employees that work there are appallingly. They just don't care when you walk in there and ask for help. Because the next sucker will come in, accept the rudeness and pay the high prices. I plan on never ever ever going back there again unless it is a dire emergency. Redmond's is a really good, decent sized off licence in the heart of Ranelagh. Located just a few doors down from the Luas stop it stocks vast quantities of alcohol (love that) and the staff are really helpful. My cousin in Northern California brews some in his log cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains, this is the closest that has come to that taste." "Try Coopers for a real chocolate taste." "6.3%! Jaysus I'll be anybodies at the end of the night if I drink this." So the reason for that recounting of dialogue is just to emphasis they listen to you and their expertise in beer is great. This makes me so happy; I love that they are well stocked with these as the year passes. Redmonds of Ranelagh offers a more refined shopping experience than most other undistinguished and frequently grubby off licences in Dublin. You know straight off from the exterior that this is the case with dark oak timber paneling adorning the outside of the shop and the 'Redwoods' name emblazoned in Gold inscription. Once you step inside this form of elegance is more than maintained. Redmonds is more of a winery than an off license. It does sell beer and cider but the selection is limited, yet the collection of wine is extensive in numbers and quality with bottles from all over the world featuring on the towering shelves, the cheapest starting at €6 and the most expensive setting the cash register ablaze at a steep €200. This selection is there to be savoured, even if you only have enough money to buy one bottle of Blossom Hill for €7 you can't help but enjoy roaming the shelves gazing tenderly in the direction of the more exclusive wines. Redmonds presents it's alcohol in a very neat fashion - that which is orderly, well labeled and arranged in price order. If you don't have a lot of money to spend this is very helpful as it prevents you from frittering away time (as well as rousing that unnecessary and depressing feeling of melancholy and bitterness owing to the fact that you don't ideally have more money) having to search through the expensive bottles to find the ones you can realistically afford. The cheaper wines and cans of beer and cider are to be found inside the door, and so for the non-connoisseurs who are looking for a quick purchase on their way to a party this is perfect, and again no time is wasted having to look in and around the more expensively priced drink like in many other stores as well as supermarkets. For the more erudite drinker who wants to take their time the neat shelves towards the back at the store provide the perfect peaceful setting in order to mull over what's on offer. This makes the shop sound like it's got a bit of an ostensible class-divide going on but it honestly hasn't. Overall it's refined exterior and interior in addition to the systematic and logical manner in which it presents all forms of drink communicates an overwhelming respect and positive reception to all customers no matter what their budget. Last but not least, once you have chosen your tipple of choice the service at the cashier till is tremendously helpful and sincere. No matter what you buy, whether it's a €100 bottle of Châteaux Margaux finest or six cans of Druids cider you receive the same considerate care with everything well wrapped and service that is never lacking in a smile. Much like Stoneybatter's Drink Store (but larger, and carrying a wider selection that boggles the mind) Redmond's is the connoisseurs offy with an ear and palette for great drink. I'm adventurous in my booze choices, and I've given quite a few of their wines and small-brewery labels a sip in my time. However, I 'm looking forward to a taste of home, as they're stocking the punchy brews from hometown hero Victory Brewery (Chester County, put your hands up). And then there's that yummy Blue Moon. A family favourite back on the ranch, Blue Moon is nigh on impossible to get in Ireland... funny that, as it's owned by Coors. But pop into Redmond's and a bank of those blue-label beauties await. We were in an off licence called Diceys in Ballyshannon, County Donegal last year when we were informed by a staff member that the best off licence in Dublin was Redmonds of Ranelagh. And you know what, they're probably right. And we had to go all the way to Donegal to find that out. Redmonds have a great selection of beer, both main stream and craft. They appear to have a fine selection of wine and spirits also. But we've not invested in any of that stock yet. On a side note we got a voucher for Redmonds last Christmas as a present. I promptly lost said voucher and fearing the worst, thought it would expire before I found it again. But it appeared (magically) and we redeemed it as soon as. When we were there I told the guy behind the counter of losing and finding the voucher, to which I was informed that Redmonds vouchers NEVER expire. How cool is that? This off-license is amongst the tops in Dublin ( best in the south of Dublin ) with a great selection of wine and a pretty good selection of beer. Since I'm more interested in the high-quality beers than wines that is what I was focusing on when I looked in their store as well as their website ... which unfortunately doesn't allow one to purchase items online, either for pick-up or delivery ( -1 star ). A bit pricier than my favorite place DrinkStore, in Stoneybatter D7, but for those who live in the D6 area it's more convenient. I have been frequenting this off license for almost 10 years and it only gets better with age. I first started going when I turned 18, we would giggle at beer names such as bishop's finger and base our purchases on the picture on the bottles. Little has changed on how I like to choose my beer although I now know the difference between an ale, an IPA and a larger and perhaps have a slightly more refined taste. I would say Redmond's has one of the best selections of world beers in Dublin. Not only that; but they have a huge wine section, they keep the majority of their beers in a fridge and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Redmond at Ranelagh remind me when I was visiting my relatives in New Jersey, of course the one over there, it was huge, this one is an small version. There are more selection of beers than wine but if you are a beer fan you can try so many there. Sometimes they have some promotions and it's a family business. If you want to find beers from countries that you never try before, go there, grab which ones you want, cashier and pay and enjoy a movie. read more

i'm not a huge beer drinker but when i'm in the neighborhood i always drop by here. they have the most diverse collection of beers from around the world. they have several san francisco brewery beers which my husband's a huge fan of. the thing that impressed me most though, was that they had bruges zot beers which i love. the brewery is the only one they still have running in bruges, belgium and it's a very very tiny place. it's shocking that anyone outside of belgium has their beers. i would go here just to buy them. they do also have a big selection of spirits as well, but being from california, i have a hard time paying the high prices for things like patron tequila and grey goose vodka. to be fair tho, patron and grey goose are pretty pricey everywhere in dublin cuz they're super premium. read more

I was in heaven when I finally found Redmond's. I'm sorry Europe... you do a lot of things well, but American micro-brews are where it's at. I can take only so much Guinness and Carlsberg.
