We took a ferry boat ride as part of our Viatour package from Marken Volendam across the bay which was about a 45 minute boat ride. It was smooth, the water was calm, the weather was beautiful for a boat ride. read more

This specific tour started in the city center and then moved to the countryside for a stop at a local farm with cheese and farm animals. Recommendation: stick to regular bikes and skip the e-bike option. The e bikes are expensive and are a bit of a hassle to keep turning back on after each stop. Bike ride was about 12 miles but very flat, so beginners will be fine. Flagship was very accommodating and due to an issue with our booking, was able to offer either a free boat tour or partial refund. Kind people, consider supporting the business!

I was so disappointed when it was time to board the boat to find we were on an enclosed vessel. To make matters worse we were first to board and were seated in a very small booth with another couple. Our table had plates of cheese to be handed out to passengers who had purchased a wine and cheese experience. When I made our reservation no where was it stated this was part of our cruise. So here we are breathing over plates of cheese that weren't for us. To make things worse we were seated next to the bathroom which kept getting used over the hour. Because it was an enclosed boat, I could only see if I cranked my neck to the left. Forget seeing anything out the opposite of the boat other than car tires from the cars parked along the canal. The guides were fine. I just wish I would have known which boat we were going to be on and wine and cheese were being served. I would have book a different boat.

The boat was small, and comfortable for the 4 of us, we drank beer and wine while nibbling on small bites, as we toured Amsterdam from the water. I lived in Amsterdam for quite some time and had walked most of the canals Jan took us through, but I learned plenty on this boat tour. Jan is a native of Amsterdam, and skippers' tours every day. The boat itself is very authentic and was very comfortable to sit in. We cruised through numerous canals around the city while the captain (who also acted as our guide) talked about the canals, history of Amsterdam, and the buildings flanking the canals. The only drawback was the lack of microphone because the captain/guide was difficult to hear at times if you were sitting in the back and other passengers were talking.

After reading the great reviews, I booked the last tour of the day and hoped to catch a little bit of sunset. We were excited to find out that we could use our tickets on a boat that left a half and hour earlier. Thanks for the flexibility! Chris and Carrie were excellent hosts. Our tour guide for the day was very laid back and shared a lot a history and facts about the city while guiding this extremely cool ship throughout the many canals of this amazing city. Being brand new to the city, it was a little challenging finding the boat, there are no signs identifying the cruse. Use the address on the houses to find its docking spot. Our original trip was canceled but we were automatically booked on an earlier one. Little bit of a snafu with double billing, but got it worked out by texting Captain Dave himself.

The captain was so friendly and very knowledgeable, sharing so many facts about Amsterdam and the canals. The holiday lights were wonderful to see. At one point in the tour, he let our little one (the only child in the group) drive the boat, which was the highlight of her whole trip to Amsterdam. I recommend this company to anyone visiting Amsterdam who wants to see it from a different perspective than the typical tourist view. 10/10!!

You'll see the bikes parked outside, and their big sign waving. We rented bikes (the 3-speed ones with hand brakes) and did a big loop north through Edam, then along the canal (and highway - but quiet and protected path) to Monnikendam, across the dyke to Marken (drizzly headwinds made this the most difficult part of the trip!), and then a ferry ride back to Volendam. Stopping for lunch in Edam and a drink in Marken, plus wandering around and seeing a few sights along the way, the whole trip took us about 4.5 hours. The bikes were in great condition, the staff was helpful and fluent in English. A lovely experience all around!
