It was my friend's birthday, and being into alot of weird experimental, alternative bands, I though he might like a stylophone. To anyone who's never heard of one it's basically the most irritating "instrument" ever invented, and consists of a stylus which you tap onto a metal, keyboard-y thing to make an electronic kind of droney noise. The perfect gift!
I had seen them online for about £20 and thought there's bound to be one around somewhere in town. Naturally, and probably a bit stupidly, I tried the music shops first to no avail. I've got very little patience and was considering resorting to the standard "I'll buy you a couple of pints" line, when it suddenly occurred to me that one of the local gadget shops may have one. I walked in, and couldn't see it on display so sheepishly asked the guy behind the counter if they had any or knew where I could get one. He informed me they had them the week before but not many were sold so they weren't around this week blah blah blah. I must have looked pretty gutted because he said he'd check in thestoreroom. Lo and behold 3 or 4 minutes later and he's found one lying around in the back. Unfortunately for me, it had no price on it and he wasn't sure if he was allowed to sell it. Again I must have looked pretty gutted because he spoke to someone "behind the scenes" and said I could have it for a tenner. So half the price I found it online as well! Sorted. read more
