Whitney was our guide and she was knowledgeable about the area and its people. She also told us a few funny jokes. Five locations were visited. 1. Ton's Drive In-Broussard. We sampled chicken and sausage gumbo with a small scoop of potato salad. Delicious. 2. Prejean's in Broussard. We sampled dirty grits and scallops. The sauce was a little on the salty side, but the dish was quite flavorful. 3. NuNu's in Youngsville. We sampled, link boudin, boudin balls, chicken patties, chicken crackling, and smoked sausage. Everything was delicious. We were gifted a 3 oz container of NuNu's Cajun seasoning. 4. Fezzo's Seafood, Steakhouse & Oyster Bar in Broussard. We sampled fried alligator with sauce and a char grilled oyster. Delicious. 5. Poupart Bakery, Inc in Lafayette. We sampled King Cake with pecan and cream cheese filling with a cup of Community Coffee. Yum. The perfect end to a tour of delicious foods enjoyed by locals everyday. This is an educational food tour that locals would absolutely benefit from. Whitney covered some history of Louisiana I'd certainly forgotten. This tour filled the 3 hours with delicious food, some humor lots of education and I highly recommend it for visitors and residents of Louisiana. Our group included guests from Louisiana, England and Ireland. We all enjoyed ourselves.

Date of tour: December 21, 2024…read more After a wonderful food tour in Prague last year, we wanted to replicate the magic stateside while visiting New Orleans, a city with a rich food history and scene. As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

Review for Tastebud Tours in New Orleans February 28, 2026…read more On our quick trip to New Orleans we experienced a culinary tour led by a fun and incredibly knowledgeable Charles Duffy III, with Tastebud Tours. As we began our tour, wandering through the vibrant streets, Charles brought the city to life with fascinating historical tales, local legends, and insider stories that gave us a deeper appreciation for New Orleans beyond just the food. Our first taste - Boudin sausage paired with an amazing Remoulade, along with a blackened chicken po'boy was an excellent introduction to the bold, authentic flavors of New Orleans. Each bite was packed with seasoning and tradition, setting the tone for everything that followed. Next we enjoyed a chicken sausage gumbo that was hands down the best we've ever had. Rich, hearty, and full of depth. It was clear this dish was made with care and rooted in true Louisiana cooking. The third stop was an experience in and of itself, offering not just delicious food but a unique atmosphere that captured the spirit and culture of the city. Each location we visited felt thoughtfully chosen and added something special to the tour. We finished on a sweet note at Laura's Candies where the pralines were the perfect dessert - creamy, indulgent, and unforgettable. The gist of this experience = Local Flavor Immersion - getting a real feel for the city's Creole and Cajun culinary roots. Highly recommend!!

She made the tour so exciting and interesting and had so much to say about things that you would have never even thought of! Beth was interesting, quick, personable, funny, and had such a wealth of knowledge not only of the food, but also of it's preparation, culture, lore and history, how it got woven into the culture of "NOLA". This tour had just the right amount of walking and food. I felt very satisfied but not stuffed. We had the following: Hotel Poste gumbo; Red Fish Grill shrimp po boy & gator boudin; Leah's pralines; Nola Sauce Bar samples (hot sauce); New Orleans Creole Cookery red beans and rice & bananas foster bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. If I'm ever back in NOLA, I would sign up for this food tour again!

Gary our guide was extremely knowledgeable on the history of the area and spoke to is for over 20 min on the history of New Orleans. Next stop was for Po Boys and Muffaletta sandwich. We stared with a fried catfish Po boy, Sasuage bodine, and an Italian meat Muffaletta. after the delicious sandwiches we stopped at the spice shop where we tasted a bunch of flavors to purchase. then off to the praline shop where we tasted many types of praline. and finalized at the 3rd block Depot with Gumbo and bread pudding to finish off the tour. The Gumbo had a twist, German style with mashed potatoes instead of rice. Gary is a wonderful historian and story teller and he made this tour one of my favorite History tours, the food at each stop was terrific. I personally was not so excited about the spice shop but others loved it. I have more spice at home then I can use in my lifetime! Highly recommend this as a New Orleans history and food tour and if the other guides are as knowledgeable as Gary then you will love this one.

Stop #5 is labeled "Call Avery Island"; it has some steps, but you don't have to go up if you don't want to. I didn't see any elevators in that area. There are screens at each stop with videos about the area, and in the storage area, you can press a button to smell the peppers ,fun and interactive! The tour is easy walking and not crowded, especially if you go after Christmas. Guided Tours: * If you want the guided tours, you need to book at least 2 weeks in advance (according to the Tabasco website). * I wish I had booked because they teach you some recipes. * The bulletin we received said 3-day notice, so maybe it wasn't available due to the holidays when everything is busier. Distances: * Everything on Avery Island is less than a few miles apart, so you can easily walk or drive between the gardens, factory, restaurant, and store. Bonus Tip: * Download the Tabasco app for a guided voice tour with location recognition , it makes the experience even more fun and informative

We hit three different spots and didn't leave hungry! The Seafood Gumbo and Sausage Jambalaya were the perfect kickoff, but the Crawfish Étouffée at our second stop was the absolute winner for me. We finished with a New Orleans staple: Red Beans and Rice. Our guide, Donald, was the star of the show. He's incredibly knowledgeable, he speaks from his own cooking experience and explained the actual history behind what we were eating, specifically the differences between Cajun vs. Creole culture. He was very knowledgeable, and at first, I thought we'd just be tasting food, but I later learned it was a breakfast tour combined with a walking tour, which was totally fine--and thankfully, still early in the a.m. We stopped at local stores, and Raffle shared all the history with us--absolutely worth it! Overall, a great experience with a knowledgeable guide and a fun way to explore.

It's unfortunate that movies and media have given Voodoo such a negative image, because it's a genuine religion that deserves respect, just like any other.
