Brown County Rodeo - Bull riding!

    Brown County Rodeo

Quick look rating: 5/5 Quality, 5/5 Experience, 5/5 Will I return…read more What a fun event, and a great event for families to attend! This event usually takes place in the first weekend in June of every year! The best rodeo that I have ever attended. Having attended rodeo's from Ft. Worth, Dallas and all over the southwest, those were more for the city folks, where this rodeo was built tough! Love the local folks as well, down to earth and not pretentious. *To note: Stay for the end! They normally end the rodeo end with the bull riding! You talk about rough! Someone riding a bull has my total respect! These folks are tougher than nails and not only do they stay in shape, but they study the behavior of these great animals that they ride, they have to know about them or they would be mud! Love the barrel ridding event as well as my second favorite event! These ladies know their horses and practice like you all get out! The barrel riding is where usually ladies ride their horse out circling three different barrels and back to their starting point and time is the factor! They have to spend time with their horse, big time! You can really tell, the folks that take care of their animals which I love! My hat's off to the rodeo clowns! Lot's of these folks are out there and get folks out of the way of trouble! My heart is with them! Taking care of these folks is a true blessing! The announcers are pretty funny as well! Always up beat and with a great since of humor! They are always directing you on where to point your attention. They play some great music to go along with the different events, like the individual bull rides! The folks that come out here are down to earth and great folks! Love the locals! You can't forget the roping's! There is some real talent out there! On the north side of the arena they will have the calf roping and my third favorite is the team roping! You have to have some real "All Stars" that can really rope to do this event! When done right, it may even jump up as my favorite event! You have to love the talent that these folks have and show to us folks! What a great value for us to come and see these events! My hats off to all of the folks that participate in this rodeo! This is so worth coming down and seeing this rodeo! I highly recommend this event!

I was recently at a training that used all parts of the venue and I just have to say that having a fan that blows cold AC is worth it's weight in gold. This place does! Bathrooms were not exactly clean and there was quite a few things I would clean up, but then again, it's a fair barn.

I'm going to average this one out and just call it A-OK (3 stars)…read more Edit: Just bumped my review to four stars as I thought about all the things going on that did not require you to pay, except to see snakes, and well for parking. But if you don't mind walking, well you could probably avoid the parking fee too. On the one hand, it is "the world's largest rattlesnake roundup", but the nature of the event may be disturbing to some. I highly recommend looking on YouTube for videos, so you'll know what you are getting yourself, or your family, into. I'm not squeamish, and I do eat animals, so the whole killing rattlesnakes aspect did not bother me in the least. I'm just going on faith that whole thing is being done responsibly, after all, if the JCs decimated the Sweetwater rattlesnake population, they'd kinda be shooting themselves in the foot. At the skinning table, I did see counts being made of numbers and lengths of snakes unlucky enough to find themselves on this particular table. But rattlesnakes were also getting "milked" for there venom, which in addition to making anti-venom, has many other medical uses, including the treatment of high blood pressure. Who knew? If you or a family member are squeamish, the Roundup still could be viewed as a pretty good adventure, without even going into the Nolan County Coliseum ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/nolan-county-coliseum-sweetwater ), which is the indoor venue for the event. There is a fee to enter, but it was not much. Be sure to get there early to avoid LONG lines, and get your hand stamped so you can get back in (and skip the line when you do). Also inside is where you can eat rattlesnake. It was only served fried, and I thought the coating was way too salty. I should take a star away for that, but I won't. The coating was so salty, I had no idea what the snake actually tasted like. Outside (and inside too) there are all sorts of vendors selling all sorts of things. Lot's of food trucks too. There was also an area set up with carnival rides. And a car show too. And a flea market. Oh, and the Southern Drag Boat Association (on Facebook or www.SDBARacing.com ) was there too, firing up their very LOAD boats. I do plan to seek out one of their events. There's on in Paris, Texas Sept. 14 to 16, 2018. Oh, and there was a gun show too, but this event was a separate charge and we did not go in. After writing this review, I really think you could call it fun for the whole family, just steer clear of the skinning table. Oh, and the 2018 numbers are in: Total weight 24,262 lbs. (New record) Longest Snake 75 1/2". Current record is 81 1/2". Bottom line: I was really surprised I didn't see PETA, or any other protestors, at this event.
