For £12 per head it was exceptional value. Plain cooking. Only negative is the roast potatoes were deep fat fried. Apart from that the quantity was exceptional, I had: Boiled new potatoes Roasted potatoes Carrots Sprouts Parsnips Ball of stuffing Yorkshire pudding Plus 3 slices of turkey All the vegetables were hot, and not over cooked. The sprouts were fresh and not frozen. My starter was melon, and my sweet was a very hot apple and blackberry crumble with custard. Visit the site for more of the internal photographs. I'd go back, but the atmosphere was spoilt a bit by very loud group of women. They didn't respect other diners, and their wish to able to have a conversation. Then again, it is Christmas.

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.

The new people have already made a big change. Outside they have taken away the beer garden completely and extended the car park. Next to the pub they've also had the patio/ smokers area made bigger. Having the beer garden taken away is a shame as they used to have a bouncy castle up in the summer and it was the only pub you could go as a family. Inside there is a kind of chill out room with a few comfy chairs and tables. Round into the bar which is quite thin and tends to get a bit packed. They do have another room down the end where they sometimes show sports and this is where you can retreat to get away from the live music which can be quite deafening. They do do food, which I didn't think was great but that was with the old people. It's a nice place in the centre of the village.

Found myself passing though Wymeswold whilst having to take a devious route due to a major closure of part of the A14 near Kettering. Said I wanted a pint of a lightish bitter, he served me Harvest Pale (3.8%abv), it was excellent, good taste for such a light bitter, though when I had sat down I spotted an Adnams pump, and old favourite of mine, indeed I have just driven from East Suffolk where its brewed in Southwold. Their light bitter is 3.7%abv. Nice menu of pub food, then he pointed out special today was Liver and bacon. The large portion came with excellent mash, loads of gravy, peas and onions and was absolutely delicious. The jovial Landlord was good for a bit of a natter, and despite there not being too many people in , there was a nice atmosphere, one of the reasons I used to patronise it in my youth, and it only cost me £8.75 What a lovely experience to go back there
