The Station is a very impressive pub; Guiseley's best infact…read more I've been here twice, once in a driving/eating capacity, and once in an evening drinking capacity, and both times I had a pretty good experience. The sign above the door tells you that the landlord and landlady welcome you inside, and, once you are inside, you do feel comfortable, welcomed and at home. On my driving visit, I went for the beer (coke) and burger deal for a fiver. Now, these deals are usually bad ideas in pubs, 'cause the burger is bound to be cheap and microwaved for that sort of price isn't it? Not here. It was pretty darn tasty, and definitely value for money. On the occasion that I went to get hammered with some mates on a weekend night, it served me similarly well. Surprisingly full of lively young folk (it is located in a rather small, lifeless town), it had a great atmosphere and the alcohol offers (on both beers and spirits) made the night a lot cheaper than it should have been.

The best thing is that if you are unsure, tell them what sort of beer drinker you are. I don't like beers that are too hoppy. So I was given a selection of tasters to try and I soon found one that I liked. Like I said this isn't a large pub and because of the low ceiling it gives it a very cosy feel. Free wifi too. I came whilst waiting for my bus into Leeds at about half 8 pm and it was absolutely heaving. Everyone in Otley must like their choice of beers because it was far too crowded and loud for me. But a pub I would pop my head in and if it wasn't too crowded I would definitely go back in.

But, thanks…read moreto recalling the recent review of this place from Kate W, whilst on an aimless jaunt along the outer roads of Leeds, this place called out from behind the windscreen of my cohort's car. We pulled up and had to park opposite the Guisley theatre (who're showing Guys and Dolls at the moment, if you care for it) and took a very brief and very chilly walk over to Coopers. The bar is large, with boothed areas for dining and supping, and boasts a number of past and present beer mats on the wall behind the bar. I'm told there's a huge function room upstairs, and sure enough there was plenty of literature about the bar with events coming up. We took advantage of their 3rds offer, where you can sample a 3rd of three different pints on taster trays. In all, it meant we got to try 6 of the 8 beers on offer, and whilst I did my best to be cognisant of what I was drinking I quickly forgot which was which... Excepting the porter, which was the only dark beer on offer. With Kipling, Bete Noir, Wild Mule, Okams MPA and more, it was lots of fun taking in the different tastes. Being a beer fan, but not fanatic, it was great to get a feel for how the different flavours come through, from overtly citrus, to hoppy, to chocolate. And of course, each tray is priced at the cost of one pint. The bar is dog friendly, as we saw many different pooches lazing around, and it's very friendly. We were sat outside for less than a minute before some gals came chatting, so I can imagine it's lovely to nip in solo or with friends. The staff looked really happy too, bantering with locals, and they were happy to advise. Essentially, it's a fantastic warm pub, and another great Market Town Tavern. Love it!

The interior is lowly-lit and intimate with an understated modern design which gives the place a hushed atmosphere without detracting from its social qualities. I visited on a weekday evening for food (they serve until 10PM) rather than booze, but I was impressed by the eclectic range of beers I noticed (Black Sheep, Peroni, Staropramen etc). Even more impressive was the food I was served (rump steak with peppercorn) - it was uncomplicated, like the rest of the pub, but it was downright delicious. In short, it felt cooked, rather than microwaved, something you don't always find in pubs nowadays. They offer the pub classics you'd expect, but also more classier, expensive options, meaning that the Fox succeeds in being both a pub and a restaurant at the same time. And the beer garden is great.

It's an impressive stone building and equally beautiful inside. With the feel of a big roaming farm house or even small stately home (at a push), it's got a big fire and lots of wood. I'm a fan of lots of wood, it screams importance to me. Maybe I've watched Anchorman too many times though. You'll also get real ales, just the way you like them. You'll also get some excellent wines too and it's a real all rounder. As for the food, excellent. This is better than your usual pub affair. We're talking high end, good quality meats, fish and vegetarian dishes. It's not cheap but it's a class act and worth the extra. If you're looking to impress, the Fox will deliver.

One of, it not the nicest, pub in Ilkley, the commonly named Queen's Head is anything but a common…read morepub. It has no television screens, instead prefering to create an authentic, old school pub environment in which people have to socialise and talk, rather than stare blankly at a sports match. This gives the place its own rather different vibe - friendly and chatty while still remaining intimate and private if you want it to be. Good fresh beers and standard pricing, it is the perfect place to either start a night out in Ilkley or just to have one pint. The Queen's Head is also the proud owner of a sound courtyard drinking area. It's old school, but it's good.

We sat down and my mate said the waitress comes up to the tables so we waited. After a while she got us the menus, choose and waited for someone to serve us. It was slow! After about 10 minutes a waitress came over and asked if she could help, so we ordered drinks and food. Drinks arrived quickly and food not long after. It was delicious though and the burger was home made. I had gammon, chunky chips, pineapple and eggs. It did say on the menu with onion rings but I didn't get any. My mate didn't want hers so I had hers and didn't bother saying anything.

I have eaten there on two consecutive Wednesday evenings. Last night at 6pm there was only one inside table not reserved, though you you can eat outside of weather allows. They do a 'any 3 courses for £9.95' for 'early doors' Last week, being a sucker for mushrooms, I started with a ragout of mushrooms with garlic, served on toast. It was disappointing, the dominant flavour being salt ! (A pint of Taylors Landlord, helped to mollify it -Im a Taylors fan, having been brought up 200 yds form the brewery). Then I had sausages and mash, excellent sausages (4) from local butcher Lishmans in Ilkley. I much prefer these sllimmer sausges, most pubs seem to do fat ones. Last night I started with 'crispy lamb, served on a bed of lettuce with a mint dressing' It was excellent. This was followed by traditional fish and chips. The fish itself was excellent but the pale anaemic batter was not good. Usuallly in Yorkshire you get a dark crispy batter made from beef dripping. Harry Ramsden , whos original establishment is only a mile or so away, would have turned in his grave. For Fish and Chips in Otley, its better to go to Maypole fisheries in Cross Green So this is a rather mixed review, just about 3 stars

Definitely the nicest looking pub in the town, Otley's Yew Tree entices you in from the outside…read morewith a gorgeous looking building and a bit of greenery (especially a nice little tree, which I don't think is a yew unfortunately!). Inside it's not quite as glorious but it's still fairly nice, and quite friendly compared to some of the pubs in Otley. This is probably down to the fact that it's located a far way out of the town centre (but still within easy walking distance as Otley is so small) and is a little bit more family orientated that most of the pubs in the town. Having said that, it's still a nice place to have a pint as I discovered, with good staff, average prices and a nicer atmosphere than most of the other pubs round here. I've never been, but the karaoke night (once a month) is legendary in these parts.
