Chopped Cheese - The Ocky Way!
Leland S.

After seeing this go viral, I just had to... had to! Here was my experience in a late Monday morning AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking. You might have issues finding parking since it's NY so I did ride share. Seating: None, just moreover a grab and go place. Vibes: Welcome to Brooklyn! Not as jampacked as Manhattan but still relatively close to many other things. The place itself is not too flashy. On other photos I saw a "Red Hook Food" banner but when I got there, there wasn't. But if you go inside and you see a huge spacious bodega and the right is "The Ocky Way" counter, you're in the right place! FOOD: Chopped Cheese - The Ocky Way (Recommend) Chopped cheese is a NY sandwich it's a cross between a burger and a Philly cheese steak sandwich. The seasoned beef is chopped and the cheese is gooey and mixed with fundamentals - onions, lettuce and tomatoes. What makes it "The Ocky Way" is is mix of the energy/delivery along with the remix of ingredients (based on request or standard changeups) such as changing the bun with a Jamaican patty. Pretty fulfilling bite, can last you two meals easily. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! I regret getting their names, but despite Rahim not being there, I appreciated their down-to-earth demeanor and their ability to carry Rahim's energy. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Delicious food, creative food, reasonable price and chill energy. Yes there are so many things to do and eat here in New York. If it happens to be in the area and are a fan of his work, do check it out. Not as flashy I thought it'd be but the food and energy was solid Salute to Rahim Mohamed - General Ock and his team for their energy and serving the community. #AAPIOwned TIPS: * Neva neva neva forget to pick up a drink! * They also have a dessert location too! * The ocky way isn't just their remix on the food but also the delivery and presentation.

Look for the worn signage with the red '99c' outside! We came to check out the Red Hook Food Corp due to the viral chopped cheese sandwiches, done 'The Ocky Way' - You have a choice from getting a Chopped Cheese, a Philly Steak, or a Bacon Egg n Cheese - We went for the Chopped Cheese, and you have a choice with your 'bread' to be a Jamaican Patty, a Waffle, a Honey Bun, or a Pancake - we went for the Jamaican Patty. This comes STACKED with chopped cheese, beef bacon, spinach, tomatoes, and a few mozzarella sticks - surprisingly, the sandwich itself wasn't too greasy as you would have expected, and it was actually not too bad in taste - the mozzarella sticks could be a bit too much for some. Everything is made to order, so you're guaranteed to get your items FRESH. Staff here are super friendly, and they do try to keep the line moving - note that it does take a minute to get your order(s). The best thing about this place is the selection of beverages, especially the Arizonas, and the chips that they offer - such a huge variety, and some 'unicorn' items that you don't usually expect to see! +'unicorn' items in terms of drinks/snacks +friendly service

Chopped cheese the ocky way on Jamaican beef patty

Finally tried this spot out while visiting nyc and it was 100% worth it. Food was absolutely delicious. I had a chopped cheese the ocky way on a Jamaican beef patty and it was just as good as all the IG stories I've seen. Service was quick and friendly. The chef was more than willing to do the recording that the spot became famous for. Ambiance isn't anything special, but definitely gives deli vibes. The store has everything you could possibly need. Will definitely be back next time.

My family and visited NY city and on our list was to try a Chop Cheese. In LA there is no such thing. The young folks in our group suggested the OckyWay. The service was great the cooks helped up decide what to order. My neice and I decides to share one because like I said we aren't familiar as they put a bunch of stuff on the sandwich. So we tried the ocky with the Jamican patty. I can't express how fire it was. We looked at each other and said... we gotta get another one, and we did. Everyone in our group of 9 ordered something different and everyone was please. The cook set us up for video for social and as we ate the owner came in. He was very nice, he sat and chatted with us for a minute. I do understand that we probably overpaid for chop Cheese sandwiches as you can probably get one for $5 somewhere else but they ain't the Ocky and we not from NY so we decided to know with what we knew at the time. I literally think about chop Cheese while back home.

The Ocky Wayyyy!! Florida pop-up @rah_money1 serves up his famous sandwich.

I got this sandwich at a pop-up in Florida when @rah_money1 pulled up and served his famous Ocky Way sandwich -- and let me tell you... it did not disappoint From the moment he said "the ocky way," you already knew it was about to be wild. The sandwich was stacked crazy -- layers on layers of flavor, textures that hit just right, and that signature New York bodega energy in every bite. Florida definitely wasn't ready for this, but I'm glad I was.

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese w/Honey Bun The Ocky Way

My favorite sandwich place in Brooklyn. Might be ever until someone shows me otherwise. My friend wanted to go because of the TikTok hype. So we took the train to go here. The area is someone sketchy, for what it's worth for some people. I didn't mind at all. Especially after I tried the food. Simply put, it's really good. The Ocky Way is a lot of food for $18. A regular person may only eat half and someone with a big appetite like myself barely finished the sandwich. The Cinnamon bun bacon egg and cheese was such a perfect blend of sweet and savory that I went back and ordered it again 2 days later (definitely have to work that off later . And on top of that, if you're going to see Ock and happen to see him, he's a really cool down to earth guy. We didn't ask for photos or anything, but talked for a few minutes and talked a little about his family. It was cool to experience. I'll be back every time I'm visiting Brooklyn and just know the hype is real!

Okay, like most of the patrons on line for the Ock sandwiches, social media influenced me, lol. Parking was tight in the area, but I was lucky to find a spot 1 block away. I arrived early on a Sunday morning, and it wasn't crowded. However, I was in front of a large family ordering, so I still had to wait over an hour to get my sandwiches. It was cool watching the two guys being the counter work very hard to prepare the customers' customized ock sandwiches. I had already eaten breakfast, so I was getting lunch for later. However, those honey bun bacon egg and cheese sandwiches were looking really good. I decided to get the ock chopped cheese with turkey bacon, spinach, and spinach mozzarella sticks. I didn't want the tomatoes on a beef patty for a whopping $18. I ordered my mom a regular pastrami sandwich. Now, to the real deal, the taste? I'm honestly shocked how tasty and fulfilling my ock sandwich was because all the ingredients together were very pleasing. The beef patty crust held together, and I was able to enjoy my sandwiches as a whole, and it was delicious. My mom enjoyed her pastrami sandwich. What I enjoyed about this spot is the customer service. The staff gave each customer ordering the ock sandwiches a little show and time to get their videos, which was cool. However, they could definitely use more staff because when I left, there were about 10 people behind me, and they were going to be in for a long wait. Definitely come early. I would return again to check out some other ock the way menu items. .

Finally, I decided to come check this deli out. What a fun experience. Staff is very welcoming and friendly. We ordered a beef pattie, the "Ocky Way" with hash brown and Twinkie and a Philly cheese steak on a beef pattie the "Ocky Way. General Ock was not there, but that does not mean you won't get the full experience. Staff here allowed me to record and take pics. The philly cheesesteak on the beef pattie was delicious. The meat was seasoned very well. Aside from the unique food they cook up, this deli has everything you can possibly need. The store is loaded with all kinds of amazing snacks, beverages, and house goods. It's a spacious bodega that has everything you need. One thing I witnessed while waiting for my food is that everyone who came through the door was greeted by staff. I love how staff is friendly to the kids. Everyone seems happy. Great vibes at this bodega. I will definitely be returning soon.

I can't lie, despite the hype, the food actually lives up to it. We got chopped cheese sandwiches with bacon and mozzarella sticks and other stuff lol, Reuben sandwich which was loaded with meat, got to parents and their kids come film tik tok videos with the staff as they prepared their food and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The store is huge, plenty of options from drinks to snacks to food, it's a one stop shop. Go see if the hype is real but be surprised by how good the food is. Worth the prices lol

The Ocky Way was good stop on our NYC food tour. It took a little to get the food since there were a lot of people there bit. $18 for it was worth it for the amount of food. We didn't get to meet the main person but his family held it down.

And the result is... OMG!

Worth the trip! Literally traveled by land, air, and sea to get there. Flew into Jersey from Okc, bus to port authority, train to south street seaport and ferried across the east river. My wife and two local friends were along for the ride so I was feeling some pressure. Red hook did not disappoint. We got lucky and the general was on duty. Got to meet him and see the full production. Only had to wait 10-15 minutes for a tasty chopped cheese on Jamaican patties, with Zapps voodoo chips, the Ocky Way! And didn't forget the bev... the elusive Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut. Thanks for hospitality Ock! Keep up the good work. Guide for the over analyzers.... Walk in, head up the left aisle, grab your bev, make a u turn to the other aisle to find the end of the line.

Bacon, egg, and cheese on froot loop pancake the Ocky Way; Bacon, egg, and cheese on honey bun the Ocky Way

This place is worth the hype, even if you only end up going one time. We didn't go on a day General Ock was there, but we're still happy we were able to experience getting a sandwich the Ocky Way. Service was great and the staff was very kind, we even got to just talk and catch up with the cashier as our food was being made. Obviously we had to get an Ocky Way sandwich since we were coming all the way from California. I got the bacon, egg, and cheese on a froot loop pancake, and my sister got the same thing but on a honey bun instead. Both were excellent! You get to see the whole process and getting the entire experience of ordering like how you see on social media was awesome. As you can see they are giant sandwiches, so you get tons of food. They are a bit expensive, but that's to be expected as you also get the whole experience as well as a bev included. If you're visiting NY and thinking of stopping by this place but weren't entirely sure, I definitely recommend it!!

The Bad Wife - The return policy on the plants

This is a brilliant little grocery with all the essentials and quite a bit of Asian variety…read moreavailable too, along with a small produce selection. There's a lot packed in there! It's a good choice for coffee, snacks, but also fennel, vegan food, kimchi, or eucalyptus cuttings (and, like many small grocery stores, some things are better deals than others). Importantly for the neighborhood, Bad Wife also sell live plants and flowers at very reasonable prices. In the spring and summer, they'll often have flowering plants available. I've always had great interactions with the staff here, and am a fan of the place.

Earlier today, I purchased several plants. In the evening, I returned to the store to return those…read moreitems, for a refund. I no longer wanted those plants. Mrs. Lee refused to accept the return. She referred to a sign that read, plants are not returnable. That particular sign was displayed at at the back of the plant section, on a high shelf. Interestingly enough, at the cash register, there is a sign that states, "Refund policy provided within 2 days receipt." It is mandatory for stores to visibly display their return policy at the cash register. 'The Bad Wife' failed to do so. Mrs. Lee's attitude was rude and dismissive despite being told return policies must be clearly visible by the cash register.
