This is not a fancy hotel, but a budget motel; but it was a very enjoyable stay for our brief visit.

The hotel is well-designed, modern but not in an obnoxious or pretentious way. It is located around multiple places to eat, so that shouldn't be an issue. The general manager, Sarah Riggs, was more concerned about protecting her employee than taking appropriate steps to check the belongings of the housekeeper before she left her shift for the day.. I continued to press for answers and was continually told "the housekeeper did not take the dress.".. I would never recommend anyone stay at the Hyatt Blacksburg as there are other honest hotels where you dont have to worry about an item in your room getting stolen and then Sarah Riggs defending her staff and taking no formal action to eliminate any possibility that the housekeeper had not stolen the item.. Stay here and you risk having a personal, valuable belongings stolen by a staff member. Shame on Hyatt and Sarah Riggs in dismissing a Hyatt member incident of a stolen item.. a formal complaint was filed with Hyatt corporate and the Blacksburg police in hopes bext time a guests item is stolen, the hotel and Sarah Riggs will take it more serious and treat it that way...

Christian, our waiter at the restaurant, was very nice and accommodating. The property itself is beautiful and historic. We booked a history tour by Gator and our guide, Beau, was knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved exploring the property and learning its history and seeing all the places where Dirty Dancing was filmed. I highly recommend Mountain Lake Lodge.

We barely saw a soul besides the few workers. When we checked in the night manager was very kind and helpful getting us a few things that shared the dirty dance spots and scavenger hunt. My mom and I enjoyed talking about the spots. The room was very underwhelming, the door wasn't shut all the way when we went to it anyone could have been in and out of the room so that was really weird. The room seemed kinda run down. The bed frames were very wiggly and squeaky. With not having any activities or anything to do it would have been nice to have a tv. Everything was closed by or before 8pm. None of our phones were working great. We pretty much didn't have any service. They still had the Christmas lights on the building from winter. They were banging against the window the entire night. It was very loud and kept me awake almost all night. The next day it was raining and they were expecting snow that night. So not the best weather to explore. Again it was a new desk manager in the morning and he was very helpful and kind. Unfortunately they were working on the back driveway so the only way was to walk all the way around several buildings or to carry all of your stuff down the stair. Thank goodness for the front desk manager carrying several things for us. But this was massively frustrating not to be able to use that area or see the few spots from the movie. The resort has history and is very pretty but definitely isn't for everyone. We live far away and made a special trip so it was disappointing to say the least for the price especially. To be able to share the experience with my mom is what I will cherish. But I wouldn't go or stay again.

First, they upgraded me to a King size bed at no cost. They allowed early check-in times, so I could get in extra time going through downtown Blacksburg. The property is across the street from the Huckleberry Trail, which is a wonderful place to get some easy walking in while you're in town. My room was spacious and very clean and neat. I had plenty of towels and anything else that I would have needed. The first morning I had Grandma's Casserole, which was delicious and full of eggs, sausage, and cheese. It was so hearty that I couldn't even finish it all. The next morning I had scrambled eggs, toast and breakfast potatoes. Again, it was filing and delicious. The location was close enough that I was able to leave my car in the parking lot and walk into town, which was very nice. Many restaurants and shops are only a five to ten minute walk away. I highly recommend the Clay Corner Inn for anyone who wants a lovely stay in Blacksburg.

Less than a week prior, we got an email from Josh saying his reservation company double booked us and he has to cancel our reservation. As out-of-state parents, we had already invested a lot of money for the weekend. He offered some gift cards as compensation. There are no other hotels available anywhere within an hour. We had to cancel everything and take a significant financial hit. A look at the VA Tech Parents page on another social media site shows that we weren't the only family he did this to. In fact, we saw screen shots with the same email and excuses. We saw some terrible responses from Josh to very distraught parents. It's unfortunate. If you have rooms booked there in the future, especially for an important event, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. Definitely do not send cash or use Venmo to pay in advance.

My disappointment was that my room bathroom had many small piles of long dark hair and dust in the corners. I was not pleased to find this on an item I dropped and then picked up. There was also hair on the carpet between the beds. (My last visit I did ask for a different room because the shower was stained). So it seems bathroom cleanliness is not their top priority. Overall, the sheets did not appear to be stained or dirty. On the second day of my visit my sheet that should have been fitted for the mattress was simply a top sheet tucked under which I discovered when I unintentionally removed it while turning the covers down. This hotel has beautiful art on the walls and great spaces. I just wish it was a little cleaner overall.

We were passing through town and needed only a quick stop and at a little more than 100 bucks/night, I was impressed with the value. I haven't stayed in a lot of Residence Inns, but the few times I have, I think, would I be able to deal with an extended stay? I think I could here, given the size of the rooms and there's a big lobby with couches and fireplace as well as a decent (small gym). The bed is very comfortable with good sheets. I wouldn't want to cook up a serious meal but the kitchen would allow for basic dishes. The living room space has a little set up with a decent sized TV. They allow pets. One thing we ran into was the walls were thin and we could hear a barking dog and people right next to us. Luckily they were able to move us. Other than that, a good stay, in and out with a full night's rest before getting back on the road. I'd definitely opt to stay here again when making this annual road trip between NY and NOLA.
