We must have spent $1000+ but it did not work. 5yr old spent her lessons screaming and crying. It got very stressful and traumatic for ME! We also kept switching teachers at Waterworks...some were just not as good with kids. I've come to conclusion that places like Waterworks has a business model to keep you paying for lessons not necessarily getting your kids watersafe. Then we heard about Grace on the Irvine Mom Facebook board. I told her @ my 5 yr old. Immediately she CUSTOMIZED her teaching method and brought in toys. She is always smiling and calm with my daughters. And this is key with my 5 yr old who hated the pool. Grace also ask parents what the focus should be- swim safe or technique. Net net in just 2 months of private lessons- both girls love and ask to go to the pool. My 7 yr old can swim around by herself and my 5 yr old is no longer afraid. Plus Grace is super responsive with text & email, flexible with schedule changes. Other places are not. Only downside is I wish Grace had more Irvine hours. This place has been around for 20 years and it is run by some very experienced educators. My daughter is restless and hyperactive. Helping her with her homework has been a daily struggle for me even though I myself was a teacher and I have taught students music before. At Paramount, you can let the teacher(s) know if you want them to use their teaching program, and/or help your kid with their homework, and/or both. I prefer my daughter to go with their teaching program first then help with her homework because Mr. Do's mental math teaching method is very effective. It compensates what school system's Common Core lack of. Mr. Luna who teaches her English is super sweet and patient. Since my daughter attended Paramount Academy, her math skill has excelled in school. School math homework became easy for her. I don't need to spend so much time struggling with her anymore, I only check her work most of the time. Her reading skill has been improved as well. She is self-sufficient to read books on her own. She has a lot more confidence that she can do well in school. Less frustration, money well spend. I highly recommend this place. Furthermore, for people who are not sure about how long you want to put your kid at any place to study, remember this Chinese proverb, "Hundred days of foundation". When you learn anything, don't expect to learn it in just one day, one week, or one month. Give it a try for at least 100 days, which is a minimum 3 months to build the foundation in order to see changes. Improvement takes patience and persistence.

I loved this one male tutor, I think his name was David, so much because he never showed that he judged me and broke down concepts super simply and always encouraged me. This is how all tutors should be. But there was this one woman who went to Harvard or something who brought my mom and I into the office and basically told me it was too late for me and went on and on for a good 30 minutes-an hour about how I'd "never get into a good school" even though I had a 4.0 and I was on a good path, had clinical hours as a 13 year old, and was doing really well. She kept flexing that she went to Harvard and she could tell who would succeed or not, basically saying I'm going to fail at life because she could tell I wasn't going to make it. Ok good for you???? And surprise, she was wrong. I got into the top schools in California and am about to graduate with honors. I wasn't sure if writing a review after this long was fair, since I'm not sure if she still works there, but I still carry that negative memory with me to this day and even included this experience in my college essays. Hope she's not working there anymore and putting students down like that... Hopefully this was just a one-off experience but I'm not confident that it was, since she was way too comfortable rambling on like that. I would give one star because of her but that one tutor saved the rating a little bit.
