we moved to HW and then they took away recycling from the community. We back to our old recycling place in Detroit. Great place to recycle.

Staff is very helpful. They take a lot of different recyclables including old books. I just wish they were open a bit more.

I was sad to move to a place that didn't offer recycling so I love that I can recycle most everything here: batteries, light bulbs, weird cardboard like box milk cartons, glass, plastic and bags! Sure it takes a bit of work to separate regular paper from cardboard and glossy but hey - karma points! The people are helpful and friendly in explaining the bins or if you don't know where something should go. Am going to separate glossy vs cardboard vs regular paper now to help in the process. Eastern market is no longer a Saturday location, as they lost funding boo! But this main location is MW 10-6 and Sat at 9! Awesome music too - happy this is here close to downtown Detroit. read more

For the uninitiated, Recycle Here! is the kind of place that we have in a city that can afford to spend $250 million in taxpayer money for a sportsball arena but can't afford to provide recycling pickup. It's colorful, slightly dystopian, and slightly jank. Like the Heidelberg Project, it feels like a monument to resourcefulness in the face of complete collapse of municipal or societal infrastructure. They accept some electronics including lithium ion, lead acid, alkaline, and other batteries, CFL bulbs, toner cartridges, computer and consumer electronic bits, plastic packaging of all varieties, and I'm pretty sure styrofoam. And they have a sort of trailer inside where you can leave functional, intact items to donate. Everything in its right place! It is so satisfying to presort our waste into giant dumpsters when, you know, we instead spend our public resources making billionaires richer. A motley staff base of sundry crusties and punk rock reuse fans vary extraordinarily in helpfulness or awakeness, and I've had some people been extremely helpful in answering questions and others be brusque. Wonderful place. Creativity. Friendly staff. Obviously environmentally oriented. A rare place in that they accept styrofoam and plastics 4-7. I appreciate their weekend hours on Saturday. It's where I go to do all my recycling. They have a pretty efficient DIY system in place - though it helps to do as much pre-sorting at home as possible. Other than radioactive materials and commercial-sized fluorescent light bulbs, they take just about everything. Once a month they also have mobile locations around the city... there's one in Clark Park close to where I live, but I always seem to miss it. In any event, it's a great project that I like participating in. Can actually be kind of a social event on a Saturday... it gets packed :D read more

Still recycling at Recycle Here! They are still going strong. They offer recycling in various neighborhoods in Detroit, which is nice for those residents. I still have to make that Saturday morning trip, but I'm happy that I am doing my part. Make sure you have your items sorted because that will make a for a faster trip when you visit. read more

If you're a Detroiter with limited access to recycling, here is your spot! Unfortunately, my apartment does not offer recycling bins or collection so I was really excited when I found Recycle Here! You do have to place your recyclable items into the receptacles yourself based on their numbers, but it doesn't take long. The staff is very helpful and can direct you if you are unsure where something belongs. They take almost everything and even offer resources for disposing of difficult items like large electronics and cooking oil. read more

Sooooo cool. Recycle Here! has a main location open every Saturday, but also has mobile locations in other neighborhoods, so no matter where you are in Detroit, there's one near you. It's a DIY production and going for the first time can be a bit intimidating because everybody else seems to know what they are doing. We pulled up and there was a guy that just pointed us towards the warehouse. Shrug. We pulled into an empty "spot" and just surveyed what everyone else was doing. I'm sure we looked confused and nobody asked "Hey, first time here? Need help?", so we just slowly made our way through it. Grabbed a cart, loaded it and put our items in the appropriate areas. That wasn't so bad. Hey, I can even do it again...and I plan to! Check their website for locations and items they take. It's best to sort at before you arrive. read more

I come up here twice a month on my bike to drop off the recyclables. They're only open on Wednesdays, and Saturdays so you gotta plan ahead! At first, it can be a bit daunting to figure out where things belong. So sort yr recyclables as best you can at home. Once you "get it", recycling here is easy. What gives this place a super bonus, it that they take electronics recycling. Old tv? Old monitor? Old CPU? Anything. They'll take it for you and dispose of it properly, so you dont have to worry about mercury or lead or any of those crazy metals going back into the soil. I was pretty bummed when I moved to Detroit and learned that the city doesn't pick up recycle bins, but then when I came here for the first time I got over it. I think it's so cool that we have a place like this. I love that they accept everything, and it's such a friendly atmosphere with really cool people. DONT GO HERE!!! They throw a majority of your things away when you leave! I liked this place so much and was amazed and how awesome it was but I should've know that's things that seem too good to be true..usually are): this saddens me so much, but the people who work here are rude and usually stoned (I guess I shouldn't be surprised about that though because they are hippies) and they claim to care about the environment when in reality it's just a job for them. This is the creative, hipster version of a recycling center. So yeah, I like it. I had all my bags and boxes full of recycables, and learned a lot for the future, rule number one, separate ahead! This place is overwhelming with the signs and numbers, but once you get it, you get it and want to go back. Shopping carts! Get one and pack your stuff in. Read the website before going, there is a list, that has "aseptic", yes they call milk and juice boxes this, and they give you pointers that made it easy for me as a first timer. You should try it once, you will be back. The vibe, friendliness, and feel good factor are just too good. They are open Saturday until 3:00 p.m. so get in there! read more

Pros: Open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays!! Takes just about Everything. (Even non-recyclable Big TUBE TVs, computer monitors, etc). The staff is friendly. They will even help unload your Car if you have LOTS of goodies to recycle. The city doesn't offer Recycle Service in my neighborhood, so These guys provide an invaluable service (just as important as Garbage Day, imo). The best recycling center I have ever been to! May seem weird but I travel continuously for work. I was here in Detroit for 3 weeks and was happy to find there was a place to drop off my recycling. Friendly helpful staff, shopping carts to bring in your stuff, clearly marked bins, cool music playing and some neat huge artwork. They recycle more items than most places. Keep it green! read more
