I went to recycle engineering on a Monday. The owner a balding older gentlemen who is usually there did an assessment of my bike. I just needed my brake cables replaced. He started adding other things on my bike that needed to be fixed, I felt he was trying to hustle me. When the price reached 65 pounds I only had so much money on me, I said "could you not replace one of the brake pads" as I thought I could save some money. I didn't understand that it meant that my brakes wouldn't work if he didn't replace them. He then told me he wouldn't do the job then, because as a responsible bike shop owner and by law I need brakes, I tried to tell him it was a misundsrstanding but he kept just telling me off very rudely in front of two other customers waiting behind me. I really needed my bike fixed for work and had walked it all the way to Kirkstall, then all the way from Kirkstall to Hyde park as I had no functional brakes. I felt very uncomfortable around this guy. I felt he was manipulating me by being aggressive, trying to get the most money out of me and then getting angry when he didn't get his way. The previous time I had come along I wanted to think about for 10 seconds if I could afford a certain tire and I tols him I needed a second think and he said very rude "be quick!" My personal opinion is that he is a narcisistic. My other opinion is that he doesn't know how to talk to customers or speak with respect. I think his shop should get shut down until learns how to treat customers humans. Don't support this man there is plenty of other bike shops in Leeds, where you will leave feeling good about yourself and you won't be treated like less than a person. The best part is now it's a few days later and I went to an honest bike repair guy and he said that he could fix my brake cables for twenty quid, was polite, friendly and said by brake pads were fine and wouldn't effect my brakes. So the recycle engineering guy went on a rant about how because I didn't want my back brajw pads replaced to save 25 quid that I was breaking the law to ride without back breaks. He knew I didn't know that much and was manipulating me in a real nasty way. So greedy. It really makes me sick to see people treat other people like this and take advantage of him. I didn't realize how he was hustling me until after, if I would have realized I would have gave him a piece of my mind in front of everybody. read more

This once covert now brightly decorated bike repairs and sales shop is still, despite the hiring of two young fellows and it's make-over, essentially a large garden shed. The owner is very talkative and welcoming whatever your level of bike knowledge. He will help find the right bike or, part for you, direct you in how do fix it or just fix it on your behalf. The fact that this workshop has been running successfully for 20 years is a testament to the quality and reliability of service provided. This bike shop is hidden amongst the Norwood's behind Victoria Road so if you've never been before look out for the signs or get a map! From the outside it looks like 2 large, very battered sheds but is brightened up in true Leeds graffiti-style with a good mural. I prefer this cycling shop to any others in the area as the owner is always up for a bit of friendly banter that makes even the knowledge-less bike riders feel at ease. He doesn't push the products too much or over-charge but wants you to feel happy with what you have bought for your bike - even when my mate tried out about 10 different seats and decided the one he already had fitted the best. Avoid this place. Owner broke my bike and charged me an exhorbitant price for doing so. I took my bike to have a new inner tube fitted as I had a puncture. I supplied my own run flat inner tube but he told me it was faulty and so supplied me with one from his own stock and charged me £17 for the privilege. Once he had fitted it he then told me the gear cable had gone and he could now only get the bike to go in a high gear and he would need to order a replacement cable to enable it to go in all gears. This was not broken when I took it. Annoyed, I took the bike having paid him £33 in total and tried to ride it home. However the tyre went flat before I even got home and I was unable to reinflate it because the valve was faulty. I took the bike to another repairer who changed the inner tube for a fraction of the price and also had no problem in fixing the gear cable. This man is a conman as others have said. read more

I wasn't impressed at all by ReCycle Engineering. They tried to sell me a used bike for £260 which I found online for £300 new. The guy kept talking to me like I was stupid (presumably because I am a young woman and he assumed I knew nothing about bikes) and when I said I wasn't 100% sure if I wanted it, he immediately turned his back on me and started getting on with other jobs. I could still have been persuaded to buy the bike but he had obviously given up and was hurrying me out of the door. The shop itself is in a dingy little shed and certainly isn't very inviting. I won't be going back any time soon. The ONLY positive in my experience was that once I had spotted the bike I liked, they managed to have it done up the following day for me to test ride. Yes, you may come across some indifferent reviews from irate students complaining about the prices, but if you seek a professional repair with genuine parts that is likely to still be operating in business when you come to collect your bike, then look no further. Appalling Nasty Service - Do Not Use This Shop Rang this shop thinking I would be getting some good local independent advice on what product would be best for lubricating/oiling my bikes freewheel (rear set of cogs). I was immediately subjected to a nasty tirade of abuse because I did not buy the part I was repairing from his shop. He was incredulous that I dared ask him advice for free and that if he told me the best product, and I managed to repair the bike myself, it would lose him business. I was appalled (and quite taken aback) by his manner and ended the telephone call. I decided to ring my normal local bike shop and they were more than happy to help. I ended up purchasing said item from them. His loss! I suggest he rethinks how he speaks and interacts with his potential customers otherwise he will go out of business.... but it will be his own fault. I thought my experience may be a one off, but then I saw the other poor reviews on other sites and they match my experience.....I am sure some people have had a good experience in the past, but I have a feeling that they must not know any better and just wanted him to repair their bikes without them asking questions. I visited this workshop this afternoon after buying a second hand bike from Gumtree for £90. I am a tradesman, so quite handy, I also know when I am getting spoken to like an idiot. The back wheel has a spoke missing and was out of alignment. I thought a quick fix for someone so experienced. I found my experience a little worse than amazing. I found I was made to feel thick and also found the owner a tad pushy, and I should let him do whatever work he deemed fit regardless of cost. He dismissed me and said I was'nt his kind of customer as I wanted a price for the work. To fix my problem he said I needed a new wheel and to fit it would cost up to £100, this is without a service or any other work. Very pricey I thought. As he only does quality work etc etc. I have since taken the bike to Kings of cycling on York road. Where for £60 they are correcting the wheel and replacing the spoke ( all I wanted doing) replacing cables and giving the bike a full service with brand new handlebar tape for the grand sum of £60. They also did'nt bang on about how amazing they are at what they do for the duration of my visit. read more
