The best part of this park is the playground equipment. It is huge and one of the best I have seen. Other than that this park doesn't offer much. There are few benches to sit on and no other attractions to draw people to the park. The pavillion is big and it looks like a good spot to rent for a party. There is no walking/jogging path, no tennis courts, kayaks/boats to rent, soccer/softball fields, etc. For me this park offers little else to do unless you want to bring the kids here to play on the playground equipment.

There is a large playground area that the kids love. The playground reminds me of my favorite playground as a kid because it is made of wood. Most of the ground level decking is made of composite boards now, but the main structures are wood. The playground has swings, monkey bars, slides and all sorts of obstacles for the kids. The ground is sand so be prepared to get sand in your shoes, but it will be worth it. There is a large pavilion in the park which is available for rent. This would be a great place to plan a private event or outdoor wedding. The open space of the park is very large. There are some trees, but there is also a vast open area. It would be a great place to have a picnic or just lay back and watch the clouds roll by. There is ample parking inside the park unless there is a large event. When there is a large event, you are forced to park outside on the city streets and walk to the event. I highly recommend this park to families.

There is no mountain biking here.... there are no mountains.... but we managed to ride some full…read moresuspension bikes along the scenic bayous.... Basically you park in a parking lot where there are public bathrooms. You unload your bikes, roller blades, skateboards whatever... Then head out on the trace, which is a long two lane bike path that goes for miles all along the gulf and Lake Pontchartrain. The trees are tall and expansive, the sights and sounds of the swamp animals are profound. I even saw a cottonmouth and a turtle in on the path. You pass through crossways, so look both ways, you ride over bridges.... friendly rangers along the way keeping the trace secure and safe. A different side of nature, bike riding and exercising that is found along the bayou. Make sure to sign in at each ranger station to secure government funding to keep the trace maintained.

As a starter this is the best maintained bike trail I've ever ridden. There virtually no ruts or…read morefrost heaves and the surface is smooth from end to end. I really enjoyed the ride from both ends once I got started. However, the signage to get on the main trail, whether starting in Slidell at the part on the Trailhead Center in Covington was abysmal. We came from Lexington, Kentucky just to ride on the trail and spent over half an hour on both ends getting onto the trail that took us to other end. The small sign upon leaving the park area in Slidell indicated we were "on the trail" but more signage was needed to indicate which way to go and turn to get on the trail to Covington. In Covington there had a great museum but the worker and the museum failed to give any indication that the beginning part of the trail was closed due to bridge repair. We only found out about the "detour" from a bike shop owner who gave good but complex directions about how to navigate the detour. Thirty minutes later after walking and asking for help did we finally get on the trail. There is no way that any agency responsible the trail can claim there isn't any money for signage. When you have a million plus dollar trail of this caliber you certainly have $50 to spend for small signs. Please get this corrected. People using the trail deserve better service.

If you want to chill, and not have to be surrounded by strangers who are probably peeing in the water right next to your tube, take an adventure out to Sandy Bottoms! There was even a mud shelf where we could dive off & we did...over and over again! It's super easy to find too. The one bad side was that there was a long wait of about 40 minutes to get on a bus to the river because they had one person stationed at the tent taking money & one guy running people back and forth with the van. It was a super long wait in the sun, as there's no shade. But again, sooooo worth it. The staff was amazing & really made it up to us.

The river was beautiful, and there were many beaches -- some sandy, some rocky -- where you could pull off for awhile. We loved that there weren't a whole bunch of people on the river. If you like a quieter paddling excursion, this is definitely it. If you're debating between a tube or a kayak, we liked the kayaks better. Do wear shoes!

I have had this bookmarked for quite some time now and finally made a point to come before things…read morereally heated up for the summer. I did not make it through all of the trails on the one visit I made, but at $5 per visit (or $25 if you pay for the whole year and can do multiple visits), it is not that bad. I plan on doing the annual plan and coming back. It is not too far from the greater New Orleans metro area. I would love to come back for one of their lectures or nature walks. And come back seasonally to see what grows during different seasons. Truely a lovely spot.

TRULY, a gem!…read more Located in the middle of Picayune is this amazing place. It's sort of a nature center just FULL of trails that takes you thru quite a few different ecosystems. The trails take you thru pine savannah where you can find carnivorous plants and beautiful wildflowers in the spring and summer and trails that take you into old growth forest. In the northern part of the arboretum is a nice little gum pond where you can see fish and turtles, and they're also in the process of building a lookout there. In about the middle of the arboretum is a giant pavilion that looks out over another pond. When you check in, be sure to get a bag of turtle food to feed to the turtles in this pond. I promise you, that's the best fifty cents you'll ever spend! I'm not sure if they offer any sort of guided tours, but it's meant to just walk around at your own pace. There are lots of places that have boardwalk and seats to just sit and....enjoy nature. The arboretum DOES have events from time to time like lectures and specific field guides and even native plant sales. I tend to like it when there's no one else there, though, and it seems I have the whole forest to myself. ;) The people who run this place are INCREDIBLY nice and they'll hook you up with a map and all that. They'll even offer bug spray if you forget your own. The daily entry fee of $5 is SO WORTH IT, and you might find yourself going often enough to sign up for a membership. A membership which is even pro-rated according to the time of year you join! They have a nice little gift shop with books and trinkets and all that related to nature stuff and even drinks if you're thirsty. If you're a nature nut like myself, and even if you're a REAL trekker like myself who likes to trek out in the middle of nowhere, you STILL have to check this place out. It's managed well, and it's situated among several ecosystems like I said before and you won't regret it. You'll very easily spend several hours here walking around checking out things like their bee hives, their pollenator garden, the pavilion, the MANY little coves off the trails that lead to waterfront bulkheads that offer great views of the pond, and so many other "little" things that will delight you in so many ways. And of course, botanists will have a field day with the many different plant species to be found here, INCLUDING carnivorous plants like two species of pitcher plant and dwarf sundews! Totally worth spending $5 and a good portion of your day to check it out! Truly a gem of a place.

Angel's Grove Ranch was the setting for our 9 year old daughter's farm themed birthday party…read more Beautiful location in the country, 20 minutes from downtown Covington. Arranged for a 3 hour party- arts and craft time in a barn with AC, games, animals to pet, horse back riding, and a hayride. A nice patio with tables and benches overlooking the riding rings and barn allows adults to watch over the activities. Incredibly nice and thoughtful people and very safety conscious. All for a noble and humane cause of rescuing at risk horses. Everyone had a great afternoon and we'll be starting riding lessons next. Highly recommended!
