Beautiful state park. Plenty of space for camping and boating. The grounds are well kept. The views of the river are gorgeous. We didn't get to go into the Otis house because it was closed on Sunday, but we got to walk around it. We also walked the swamp trail. It wasn't very long, but it was nice, peaceful and had benches where you could stop and watch the boaters.

Fairview Riverside is one of the smaller state parks, but it is worth visiting. Located on the Tchefuncte River, the park offers some of the most beautiful views in the area. The park has camping areas that are small compared to nearby Fontainebleau, but they are adequate. There is a very nice pavilion available for rent that would be perfect for a kids party or a crayfish boil. The kids play area is small, but nice. There are actually two play areas. One is near the pavilion with the other by the camping area. There is a large house that was available for tours, but it is still under renovation due to hurricane damage. Day use fees are one dollar per passenger with kids under 3 free. The park is near both Madisonville and Mandeville, so if you're in the area, you should check it out.

Beautiful autumn sunset at Fairview-Riverside State Park!

Love this quaint little state park for camping and relaxing. The walk along the "Swamp Trail" is quiet and perfect for bird-watching from one of the benches on the trail. A visit to the beautiful Victorian style "Otis House" is a must ~ get your entry ticket from the park office and Lori will provide a very interesting and educational tour of this grand old home! Each month brings something different to the tour ~ December decor of fresh evergreens was especially enjoyable, as well as educational. I look forward to the January tour when quilts will be the "talk" of the home. The park employees are so very friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough good about this park!

Great local park. Good for kids. They have water spouts which is great. I haven't camped here but it's a good place for a day out.

Established in 1942, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, the most-visited park in Louisiana has nature trails, a sandy beach, a new, all-inclusive playground, a splash pad, and the ruins of an 1829 sugar mill situated among towering oaks. Some walked while some biked. Sugar Mill is a looping trail about a mile long. The alligator boardwalk trail was closed, likely due to damage from Ida and hasn't been repaired yet. There was another trail, but we did not take it. The massive cypress are just awesome! The Spanish moss slowly wavering in the air as you walk underneath these giants is just captivating to me! We did not encounter any creatures except squirrels and a male Orchard Orbweaver and his impressive web. Sooo much space and things to do here we didn't even do all of it. There's big open fields for playing, a playground, tons of parking available. I did see the pier and water of Lake Pontchartrain in the distance, but we were too hungry to keep exploring lol $3 per person to enter the park - 100% worth it

Located on the meandering Bogue Falaya river, this location, though serene at present, served as a functioning harbor throughout the 1800s for the town of Covington. Right now, the "river" looks like a peaceful, lazy stream I could easily walk or swim across...but I'll take the park sign's word for it that this was once a bustling commercial port. This is one of the more well-hidden parks I've found anywhere, as it looks more than a bit like the backyard of the homes on either side of the park. A quaint gazebo and a fountain are located at the front of the park, while a concrete path heads down to the river, with a small wooden deck on its shore. To the left is a grassy clearing that is occasionally used for free concerts between March and October: http://covingtonweekly.com/2014/03/19/sunset-at-the-landing-free-concert-series-2014/ I wouldn't say that there is much to "do" here, but it's a pretty spot for a half-hour of relaxation, perhaps a picnic down by the water. Lovers of unheralded, uncrowded natural public spaces will want to seek out this idyllic little slice of parkland.
