I've worked with individual solo tax preparers and the "other" large tax service in the past, and my experience at Jackson Hewitt exceeded my expectations as well as consultations I've received in previous years. I chose Jackson Hewitt based on posted Yelp reviews and the ease of discussing my needs and getting an estimate of fees in advance of setting an appointment. I had a complicated tax situation this year involving job changes and disability/Social Security issues that Janelle expertly handled. I felt completely confident that she found every advantage possible in reducing my tax burden this year. In addition, she found a mistake in last year's return (handled by another professional) that if left undetected, may have resulted in additional fines, penalties and the potential for an IRS audit. I am grateful that she provided a bulleted list of recommended steps to take this year to help reduce my taxes next year. I never had an issue with the service until this year when I got a letter from the IRS. Cue insane panic attack. I called several tax accountants in the area to find out every single tax accountant (even in the big name branches) are basically on vacation all fall and summer. If I wasn't having a mental breakdown...I definitely was by this time. I went to Yelp and found Sina and was so relieved when he answered on the second ring and made time for me to come in that afternoon. I was kind of scared that I had fallen into a Better Call Saul situation but my experience was very efficient and pleasant. He was able to help me with my situation (turns out the IRS actually owes me $8 suckaaaaaaa!!!) and after looking back at a few returns he immediately recognized an issue with my payroll that will get me back thousands of dollars.
