We popped in to play a few games before having dinner. It was a fun atmosphere with the downstairs decorated for Christmas which made it very festive. They have a huge selection of video games, pinball machines, skeeball, etc. Most games are 1 or 2 tokens so very reasonable. I was dissapointed that they don't payout in tickets to take home small trinkets but we had fun and handed our remaining tokens to some teenage boys who were appreciative. What a gem we stumbled upon in New Albany. Recbar 812 is two floors of old video games, new video games, pinball machines, skee ball and so many other kinds of fun. All of the games take tokens, and tokens can be bought for $.25 each. Best of all: Almost all of the games require only one token to play! Give a kid $10, and he'll be occupied for quite a while. My thing is pinball, so I headed downstairs to smack some balls. There are dozens of old pinball machines downstairs, as well as giant Jenga, shuffleboard and a first-generation Nintendo console set up in a quiet corner with Duck Hunt. I picked a pinball machine that looked good and started playing, and apparently it had a little magic in it, because it let me play indefinitely. Like, it literally never let me lose! After playing for almost half an hour on one token, I had to walk away from it, sadly. I still think about this pinball machine to this day. The food at Recbar 812 is way better than it needs to be. Honestly, this place could exist just by itself without food -- it's that great. But Recbar does offer a full menu with sandwiches, salads, burgers, tacos and nachos made with tater tots. (I refuse to say or write "totchos," other than within the confines of these parentheses.) I got the "Cool Kids Club," which is basically a club sandwich with a fried egg included. I love a good fried egg in a sandwich! It was great and came with tater tots, which were delicious because they were extra crunchy. Their kids' menu is also great, and includes kid favorites like chicken tenders and mac & cheese, but also wild-card offerings like popcorn shrimp and a pb&j on a waffle. They also offer a lot of local beers on tap, and a little bar area where adults can retreat and relax while their kids play games. We ate lunch here, and with a meal and playing games, we were here for around two hours. And even after two hours, my kids did not want to leave. Recbar 812 is so fun! Never been to this location since it opened. It was my friends idea to come here after sitting on this place for a long time. We actually knew this place has been here a hot minute. Street parking is available beings they don't have their own private parking lot. We actually got a close spot. Going in, we didn't know what to expect. From my recollection, we explored the place first and it is larger than the Jtown location. We didn't order any food or drink beings we just ate. We proceeded to get our tokens and some quarters ( some games only take quarters). We were told by another customer there were more games in the basement of the establishment. We actually didn't know that and thanked the person. We did see the stairs coming in but, little did we know beforehand there were more games downstairs where we spent quite a good amount of time. It was mostly pinball games downstairs where there and some arcade games. Very glad someone told us there were more games downstairs there. Came here for burger week I will say the mac & cheese and stuff on this burger is better than the one I got last year at the 502 over in J town. Again 10 disappointed you can't leave things off the burger, but there wasn't a whole lot of sauce and I got him to give me a plate so I could quickly scrape off the offending onions and pickles. I ate onions and pickles, but it didn't seem to put my burger too much pickles didn't have a lot of juice and the onions weren't too pungent. read more

My family went to RecBar for 'Kids eat free Tuesdays' last night. Over the past couple years we've done this 3 times, among many other visits not on Tuesdays. I'll start by saying that the host greeted us quickly and was professional and the server was wonderful. When we first came to 'kids eat free', my kids ordered their food and got a whole pb&j waffle sandwich with the Mac and cheese. The most recent time, before yesterday, we noticed that it was now a half waffle and a smaller portion of the Mac. Last night, we were brought a QUARTER of a waffle with pb&j and a portion cup of Mac. My husband and I both ordered adult meals and a side salad plus we got an extra $10 in tokens so we weren't being cheap, not that it matters. Again, the service was great. I just feel cheated about the 'free kids meals' and so did my kids. read more

We have frequently gone toRecBar812, mainly for pinball or trivia. We are not a huge fan of the food as it is glorified fried food in general. But we decided to try their trivia again tonight. The poor experience tonight has led me to want to write a review, hoping their ownership reads this and tries to make some improvements for their customers. Admittedly, it was more busy than usual. But we waited over 10 minutes for a Host to even speak to us. The line for the hostess was quite long and took forever. In this situation, a manager should be stepping in to help. We even saw other employees coming up to get things or walk past, not one of them stopping to help seat waiting patrons. That being said, I do not think I ever saw a manager. I asked later and a waiter told me her name was Brittany. But I never saw her step in and help anywhere. We sat and ordered, and eventually our food came, and we were without silverware and napkins. We were told they ran out cause of the amount of people. About 10m minutes after we got our food, we got plasticware. I used the restroom at one point and the papertowels were empty. I informed the bartender, and she said she would make sure people knew. I used the restroom again before I left and the dispenser was still empty. So clearly I was ignored by someone. During trivia, they had a song round. We could not hear anything and we asked if they could turn it up. I was told they could not. What's the point of trivia if you cannot even hear it to participate? Typically the trivia host is quite good, and we enjoy the trivia. But no matter how good the host is, if the trivia cannot be heard, then what is the point? My fish sandwich was almost entirely breading, in fact large chunks of the breading came off as it was so hard and crispy. There was very little actual fish. We had a table of four, and the only person happy with their food was the person who ordered the chicken wings. I would just say in general, that many of these issues should have been taken care of if a manager was present. This is a go-to spot after a dinner date or on a weekend afternoon with friends. The real draw are the giant spaces with tons of arcade, video and pinball machines. The theme is carried through to the art on the walls and trading cards under the bar. One of the giant screens is always playing something nostalgic like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Don't neglect heading to the basement. The basement is actually a haven for us pinheads with more machines in one location than anywhere in a 2h radius. They also have air hockey, ping pong and an NES machine set up in the basement. The beer list is surprisingly robust, the cocktails are fine (the wine is limited). They have a food menu that has great themes (the tot nachos or totchos are so good) and is typical sandwich/bar food with a twist. It was about an hour, but since there's plenty of games to play, wasn't that bad. While staying in Louisville, I found out about this pinball bar over in neighboring New Albany, Indiana. Entering the doors certainly hits you with nostalgia: signs from now defunct stores, paintings on the wall, and retro arcade games are everywhere! Video games, skeeball, basketball, air hockey, and dozens of pinball machines click and clack and make simulated battle noises, and the walls are lined with tv screens showing old movies and cartoons. The bar menu is surprisingly extensive with unique flavor combinations on traditional items - like Frosted Flake cereal used as breading on a fried chicken sandwich, or sriracha and pineapple on a grilled chicken sandwich. The array of drinks are just as unique as well! Unfortunately unlike some other arcade bars I've been to, the machines at RecBar do require purchasing tokens (25 cents each), so plan for that. Cool arcade style bar. There's a couple bars where you can order a drink and they do have a decent selection of beers on tap. We ordered some beers, hit the ATM for some cash and traded it in for some tokens. I love the design of the inside, very throwback and hits close to my childhood. Tons of games to play including streetfighter and Mario kart, pinball machines and many others. Love the vibe inside and they sell food as well. This place is both good and bad. I'll start with the bad. I was not impressed with the games. In fairness, I wasn't able to go downstairs, which apparently is full of newer looking pinball machines. The games upstairs were old games and half of the games I played had an issue with it. On to the good. We loved the food. I had a chicken club that was very good. They're kind of known for the taster tots, they were the best I've ever had and you can get a bunch of toppings for them. One of the more unique places you can go to forsure. On my recent visit I had totchtos with bbq pulled pork and queso. It is so good, it's what I have gotten every time I have been here in the past. I love their drink selection. They have so many different beers to choose from. It is very likely that every time you visit they have plenty to choose from. The only gripe with this place has to be the service. This would be an easy 5 star review if it wasn't for the slow service I receive here the times I've been, including the most recent. I'd give this place a high 3, not quite a 4. I enjoyed the place and would go again but it was a rough first experience. It was a Friday night, very loud and busy. Service was slow but was expected with how busy it was. I feel that it was my fault that I didn't like my order. I had ordered Buffalo Chicken Tacos. They may be good for others but I was not a fan. They were funky and had Gorgonzola cheese (I had never had that before). They were good but I wouldn't get them again. The loaded tater tots as a side were awesome. They had a weirdly sweet spice on them and the queso was a great pairing. Definitely would go just for that. The fried pickles were sweet, sour, and crunchy. Having just moved down to the Kentuciana area a few months ago. I've been hoping for an arcade bar closer than that of places such as Recbar and Zanzibar. So, there is Recbar 812, which happens to be about 10 minutes away from where I live. My wife and I decided to come check out their new establishment this week. They absolutely have the 80s and 90s decor down for sure. However, looks are not everything. While Recbar 812 does in fact have a food menu, we came strictly for the arcade games and pinball. The top floor of their establishment doesn't have as wide of a variety of games as you would think for as large of a space as they have, more than most places I've been to. A majority of this first floor space is taken up with tables since they also consider themselves to be a restaurant. My problem with this is that arcade bars that try to be a restaurant don't typically do well in one area and although this review doesn't include their food, it is quite present that they don't do very well with their arcade machine variety, but they really do shine with their amount of pinball machines. The top floor has about 20 different arcade machines and only four pinball machines, so not much in the way of gaming as this floor is mostly a restaurant. If you really want a gaming space that has also has a bar, that is when you'll travel to their bottom floor. My biggest problem is the accessibility of said floor. There is no ramp or even an elevator for those with disabilities so if you are disabled and are not able to use stairs, then please do yourself a favor and do not come as you'll miss out on majority of what Recbar 812 really has to offer. Another thing I noticed is the lack of a downstairs restroom which doesn't make any sense at all, so be prepared to have to travel up and downs said stairs again and again just to use the restroom. The downstairs area is not quite as big as the first floor however, this is where the arcade side of Recbar 812 really and truly shines. This area features a slew of pinball and arcade machines, an old 80s Zenith looking television to play NES games on, a few cocktail tables to play games such as Galaga, a bar and even a table tennis area. While the pinball machines and arcade games are fun as well as having a very nice variety, the problem Recbar 812 has is keeping up with the maintenance of the machines, particularly the pinball machines. There were several machines that desperately needed attending to such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles machine, Muhammad Ali and several others. Several other guests were losing tokens to these machines and even after letting staff know several times in my entire three hours there, not one single member of staff put up a sign to let others know not to drop their tokens in them. Which leads me to my final point, tokens. I've never understood the need for using tokens at an arcade bar, especially one that also features a restaurant. While I understand Recbar 812 is a business looking to make money, they come off as seeming pretty desperate to do so. I believe that if the arcades machines, at the very least, were free, patrons would spend more money on drinks & food. I believe that with a hired maintenance person for each shift, more accessibility to the bottom floor featuring a restroom and only needing tokens for pinball machines, Recbar 812 would do even well than they already are and would be more deserving of a higher rating. read more

We had a fantastic time at the rec bar while we were in New Albany Indiana. Me and a few friends were walking around celebrating a birthday decided to go into Recbar about 930 we go in there and there are classic arcade games everywhere there are punching machines there are shooting basketballs footballs AirHockey a lot of nostalgia pictures and paintings all over the walls this is a very fun establishment that I highly suggest anybody check out and tried a lot of fun read more

Wow! I like the Recbar in J-Town and have been a few times but I think this one is even better. It's bigger and has a crazy selection of games. It also hits all of those beautiful nostalgia notes with the blockbuster sign and signs from other defunct stores. There are a ton of beers both on tap and in can/bottle and a full bar for the liquor drinkers. For our food, I chose the blackened fish sandwich and I was absolutely NOT expecting it to be so amazing. Seriously, it's one of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly, slightly spicy and a little sweet with a delicious tartar sauce - highly recommend! My husband had the cheeseburger and devoured it. We don't get over to the 812 often but I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again! read more

Food and drink is pricey and arcade games are not free play but there's so many games to choose from, the vibe is really unique and cool. The place is clean - there's multiple bars. There's a diverse food menu. It's manages to be both family and adult friendly - and that's amazing. It's only open till 12am which sucks - I think it should be open later for adults, but it is what it is. It's a really fun time. With good service and a well crafted, maintained aesthetic. Parking is not the easiest to find but that's alright. Really love this place. My friend, a super gamer, geeked out over this place.
