We passed a few restaurants that seemed open but deserted before coming across Rüdesheimer Schloss Weinhaus. Bright lights, lots of people, and what looked like a lively atmosphere. We were sold! Lively turned out to be an understatement. Unbeknownst to us, our ship's optional excursion to various German beer houses had ended up here, and with a band everyone was in fine fettle! The band played German music then American songs, the group was feeling no pain and dancing up a storm. Definitely lively! We had a nice booth a little farther away where we could observe all the activity but still enjoy our dinner. For us, it was a wonderful experience: delicious, authentic German cuisine, attentive, friendly service in English, and a well appointed,lovely restaurant with obvious history. Schloss Weinhaus serves local beer and wine, and the welcoming servers keep everything coming, from starters, main course and desert. They don't slack on the beverages either. We were walking around and asked a few locals about some good restaurants in the area. Each one mentioned Das Weinhaus as one of the best. It turned out to be a very good choice as we had dinner and wine one night and just wine the following night. There is an extensive wine menu, very comprehensive selection of Riesling but there are other wines as well. Prices by the glass and bottle are quite reasonable. The food menu is also large and has German Favorites and other styles of food. Our table of four had a couple of dinner salads, one pork medallions entree and one beef entree.
