I love the book shop!…read more The hours are limited with I think longer days on Thursdays. I come here to donate books (drop off is in the underground parking garage) as well as buy books. They have a good selection of used books priced cheap! Love that they have a cheap books for me and my children. Kids books range from $0.25 to $2.00. Adults book start at $0.50. Every dollar I spend here benefits the library and their great community programs. The volunteers here are very gracious and helpful. If you can't find something, ask and they will check the backroom if there are volunteers working there. They have a big book sale once a month. I think it's on first Thursday of the month but pls call and check before coming here. The book sales are huge and they spread out all over the plaza by the coffee shop. They are open Mon-Sat 1pm-4pm, Thurs they are open later til 6pm. Closed on Sun.

Located on the right side, just before you enter the Orinda Library, the shop is an outpost for this volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving library services in Orinda. Via sales of donated books, they provide the library with new books, magazines, videos, etc. The little old ladies running the shop are sweet as can be, and apparently know my little 4 year old niece by name. Either she is a compulsive shopper-in-training, or a philanthropist-in-training. I would like to think it is the latter. Get the donor plaque ready : o ) They have a giant green cushie frog chair just big enough for a kid, where the munchkin can sit and peruse the wares before she buys. With the small library she has amassed at home, she better get a 1600 on her SATs.

You can tell the owners really put thought into this bookstore and it shows! We purchased multiple books and some tarot cards on water color paper to paint late. My son enjoyed the tunnel of lights to run through. We also attended story time on Sunday which was great! More than enough space but there were quite a lot of people so maybe for weekend story times, a mic would help reach the people in the back. The blonde older European woman and another woman talked behind the counter the entire time we were there. When asking a question about a title we were searching for they give you minimal responses and continue the conversation between themselves while searching up the answer. You can't help but feel like you're interrupting them. While being rung up for the books, they continue their conversation and talk about the books you're getting like "I've heard this one is so good" and "I should one of the copies for myself" but it's never directed towards you or with any effort to loop you inter the conversation. She was unpleasant a year ago when we came in and I can't find any desire to come back when they're so many other local bookstores who I'd support first.

Unfortunately online stuff has put us in the situation where you can go into this bookstore and cover the whole place in around 15 minutes. I was looking at the "horror" section and it's okay but again, the light version. Also the fact everything is so expensive now also doesn't help. A paperback was 20 bucks. I'm not paying 20 bucks for a book I'll read once that I can get a the library for free. Magazine prices are absurd. I did find a couple that were 8 bucks but most are over ten and usually more. Delighted to find it was lower than Amazon and even some other online used bookstores. I arrived at Barnes & Noble and decided to browse a bit before picking up the book. I find the layout of the store quite easy to navigate. For the most part items are easy to find. As I was browsing, a clerk named Kara asked if I needed any help. That's always nice. As it turned out she also helped me when I went to the checkout area for my book. For some unknown reason the online price did not pop-up and I was reluctant to pay the full price (less the 10% member discount). Kara was very diligent about finding the originally quoted price. Very refreshing to find good customer service. That's what keeps customers coming back!

They are on top of all the popular books and they can order anything for you if you ask. They'll quote the price and when the book will arrive. The owner is super friendly and very interesting to chat with. There is a lot of hilarious stickers and bumper stickers and random things to look at in the store. They haven't been open for very long, but no one should be buying books on Amazon anymore! This place is amazing and I highly highly recommend coming here and checking it out.

I try to shop local when I can. Everyone loved their gifts- books, bookmarks, journals, affirmation cards and some other lovely little items. The store is well laid out and bright. The two ladies working there (one was the owner) were super helpful in helping me find the books I was looking for. The book selection was pretty decent. They did not have all the books on my list but had quite a few and I was able to make pretty good selections amongst those. Book lovers, make sure to visit the store and support a local business. For those of you who can't find the time to read or prefer other modalities (audio) can find other interesting things in the store.
