CHS was on point again this year with plenty of monsters, creepy hallways, even further-enhanced decor, and cool tech to boot! I'm looking forward to participating again next year for sure. It…read moretook place at the Highland Park Rex Center, and they set the stage really well for something spooky - the space was very dark and seeing the building in that state built up a good sense of suspense. The video they make you watch at the beginning also helped hype it up, as you're in a totally dark room and getting primed for some scares to come. The maze was especially scary when we went through it as it seemed like there was nobody else in attendance at the time, so you really got the sense of being all alone in there and knew that all of the scares would be focused on you. The actors' timing was good and they got me a few times for sure. I also liked how they took you through several types of scenery that all felt a bit different. The only part that wasn't great was the ending. They had a sort of blinding light that you had to walk towards, but it wasn't clear where to go from there. We almost went through a curtain back to another part of the maze by accident before we realized we were supposed to go out the door... and then it was over. I think they could have done a better job designating the exit and ending with more of a bang - it would be great to position a scare actor right under that light. This haunt was not on the level of some of the super impressive home haunts that are chock full of props and actors, but it's still a fun time in a local community, and at $3 each or 2 for $5, it's still worth the price of admission.

This is the home where in the movie you meet the Devil - Gary Marshall & Penny Marshall from the TV Show Laverne & Shirley. There are also Trick or Treating Scenes filmed here as well with several houses right next door. There is also a park across the street you can check out as well. You can also drive by East Whittier Middle School which was Jacob Bailey High School in the movie. Back to the Future Mill Valley High School was filmed @ Whittier High School on 12417 Philadelphia St. King Richard's Antiques is one of the largest antique shops in California. Also check out Nixon Plaza - Richard Nixon's Law Office was located here in a historic 100 year old building that has now been transformed into a Food Hall There are multiple restaurants with a Large Indoor & Outdoor Dining Area. You can grab something to eat & a brew @ Whittier Brewing Company in the Food Hall. Also check out the Whittier Village Cinema. It is a small beautifully restored Art Deco Movie Theater that was originally called The Wardman Theater which was built in 1932. The Architecture, the Tile & the Lights are really beautiful. Highly recommend you check this place out during Halloween, you will not be disappointed, but you will run out of the maze scared, yet in awe. These mazes that they have been making are not for the faint of heart, I would compare it to a high end knotts scary farm maze- but pretty close to Halloween horror nights as well! Always impressed with what their crew puts on! Also stick around for Christmas, sometimes they do festive lights on their house (which has been known to have a themed song that coordinates with the lights!)

I am for sure going to try to come to this event every year because it was soo fun. It is a night event where it reminds me of something similar to 626 night market but held in Little Tokyo and is a lot small size. But overall this is pretty fun because you can see so many different people dressing up nd enjoying themselves. There is food to buy from vendors and also things to buy. So shopping around was pretty nice. Food also was super good!! The event is free and pretty safe, I saw plenty of families here that brought their young kids and it wasn't too scary that they were freaking out. But overall everyone was having fun. The DJ and host did an awesome job in music and information. It was super fun and felt really safe in too!

There were cool screenings of horror movies, starting with "Prince of Darkness" on Oct. 5th., showed at one of the locations where it was shot, a fun Block Party on Saturday, Oct. 27th, a haunted tour of the area and there will be a Trick or Treat on 31st. It's a great idea, the area comes to life during this time, there are many activities for the season. People who come here like to dress up anyways, so the Block Party was a fun event to people watch, many cool costumes around, a beer garden, food trucks, DJ, various vendors. It started at 6 pm and went to midnight. The city that never sleeps.... A very cool way to have a Halloween party, I wish they had more acts on the stage, but the Haunted Little Tokyo is a great idea. And it can get spooky...
