After being there 6 days I was told I have to do 30 in detox then I move to mental health house and do 30 there. He knew very well I had only 30 days. The house on their website that's all beautiful on the beach, only holds 6 clients. And the detox house is nasty old rundown apartments with old couches, no table to eat at, nothing on the walls. Just like a frat house. Everyone just sits in their rooms watches tv and eats junk food. Brian from admissions showed up when I became angry that he lied to me about my time there, and he started trying to convince me that doing the program their way was what was right for me. I left and it really screwed me up to have been lied to and shoved into the wrong program just so they could make money They are taking advantage of people with mental illness and people with substance abuse issues by signing them up for programs that do not meet their needs.

I just talked to someone who asked me Qs about it so I hope this might help some more people. Best of luck to you all. Going thru the Sharp Rehab Pain Management program was a total game changer for me because I was highly opposed to getting completely off pain meds myself. At the time that I began working with a pain specialist there I was taking between 6-8 Norco a day for a chronic back problem that was only getting worse with treatments. I worked with a pain specialist who -very gradually-helped taper me down to a lower dosage of medicine. The rate at which my dosage was tapered down is some thing I was able to negotiate with the doctor and she was very receptive to my opposition of getting off of the painkillers completely. I want to say I went down half a pill a month, so it is not something they sprung on me overnight.. I can distinctly recall that this was process still not easy for me, so they were intermittent appointments where I would ask the doctor to go back up on a higher dosage of Norco, to which she (mostly) obliged. I really was not the best patient and I fought with my pain specialist throughout much of my taper off painkillers namely because I didn't see hope without them & I really had no faith that other things would work at all for me, let alone work better than what I was doing. I was not a huge fan that one other thing I was encouraged to try was switching over from Norco to taking SUBOXEN. When I looked into Suboxen I wasn't able to find any information on how it can be used to treat pain. This medication made me feel super dizzy and loopy so I didn't last very long on it. My 2 go-to's to manage pain pretty much boil down to ICE PACKS & HEAT PACKS. I had to become way more aware of what my body was saying to me because I had the bad habit of ignoring my physical symptom's until they were really bad. A huge part of the Sharp program is educational so I say through a required class that talked about ways to manage our stress. This was a real eye-opener for me because it felt very validating because it covered how living with chronic pain is a real thing that Does require our time and attention, if we do want our pain (& quality of life) to improve. I really appreciated that the doctors that work in this program never downplayed the fact that I was in pain even while they were tapering down my medicine. My feelings and physical problems were not ignored or belittled, as one might imagine. In fact, I think that everyone I met with, and worked with, was very kind and understanding. I would never have made it through the program had it been designed any other way than that way... For me, a huge part of dealing with my chronic condition, was an underlying feeling of hopelessness and helplessness that was making me feel marginalized from society, and alienated from most other people, because it was something that I couldn't talk about without some fear of judgement or scrutiny from them. I do wish there would've been more support groups involving other chronic pain patients but -for whatever reason- that wasn't the case.

The Staff there are such wonderful and nice people to me atleast, some of the teachers were...questionable. especially Miss Morrow. the Quality of the school was like your average school, trashy. the kids there are a whole other story. some of them flushed their tapes down the toliet, clothes, pens you name it. it clogged the plumbing for WEEKS!! so we had to use clairemonts restrooms which were okay. For MY personal experience it was a 50/50. The help they provide is...decent. I was there for roughly seven years way before Covid hit so you could imagine how tired I must've gotten just by being there. The Food they gave the students were fine, but on Fridays were the REALLY fun days. If you save up enough points you can buy things at the in-school store, they had chips, little fidgets, popcorn sometimes even shirts. So do I recommend sending your kid there? If they behave well then they could be out of there in no time, if their misbehaving dont send them there. That will only make them misbehave more.

I found the physician to be extremely egotistic, controlling and condescending, especially at critical points in therapy. I was actually told "do you really think you are OK? by Dr. Roybal whose job in my opinion was to say "you are going to be OK I am here to ensure that." Then to charge a fortune for this type of treatment is just far beyond acceptable. I will also agree with other reviewers that the costs of the clinic are extremely expensive for the potential of treatment that may be required. 18K per month was required during my time there. The insurance billing process is a nightmare as others have stated. One definitely feels a few weeks into your treatment as if this clinic really is all about putting money in Dr. Roybal's pocket. A strange feeling of preying on the weak. Very sad. Also this is an outpatient facility. As a clinician myself, I would highly suggest that anyone going through a drug healing process would be better off finding a good therapist, following an appropriate slow taper schedule with supervision, a good massage therapist, chiropractic neurologist, acupuncturist, and seek out solid nutrition protocols with meditative exercises like yoga, tai chi, qi gong and meditation. WAY more cost effective and likely, far superior results.

When addiction grabbed ahold of me I felt no incentive to break free. I didn't want to trust myself. I needed day by day proof that I could exist and face the challenges of life as my authentic self. The places the staff take you in the van (outings, group sessions at the center, AA meetings) and camaraderie that comes with all of that made the experience memorable. I lived in a house in Clairemont that allowed me to slowly transition back into the real world until I was ready to give myself full autonomy. Lauren was my therapist throughout this time and can't thank her enough for walking me through the swamp that was my past.
