Real Patisserie is full of delectable treats! To go in here and not buy something would be near impossible, in my books... Whether you're after something savoury (a quiche or sausage roll, say) or something sweet, you'll find a delicious option in here. It's very stereotypically French. Having 'holidayed' in France for most summers growing up, I have been spoilt by great French boulangeries and patisseries, but I must say that Real Patisserie is spot on. Their selection and the quality of their food is great. I used to work in the building where all their bread is made and, on the odd occasion, a market they'd have prepared for would be cancelled. The whole office block would get an email, along the lines of 'we have a tonne of bread that we need to get rid off' and we would all run down to try and make sure we got something before it all sold out! Once you'd tried the bread, you see, the thought of missing it was just too much to bear. It's beautiful bread - made with care and attention. Sweet bread, savoury brea, crusty bread, soft bread - you name it, they do it! They do it well. I like this place a lot and all I hear is good things, so if you haven't tried it yet then please do! For me, one of the best things about going to France is heading to the patisserie to get bread and goodies for lunch so to have one or two close replications in Brighton is great. Come to think of it, why can't we have more French style food shops here instead of Tescos Express? Anyway, I'm sure everyone has their favourite thing to buy for lunch at the Trafalgar St Real Patisserie but for me its their quiches. I know they're a little pricey (£19 for a whole one - but you can split it with friends and they do sell slices) but they are worth every single penny. The Spinach, Mushroom, Bacon & Gruyere is the best of the bunch in my opinion, its so moreish without being sickly. If you really want to ruin the rest of your working day rubbing your stomach whilst mouthing 'too much - too much' then I'd grab a slice of La mousse trois chocolats to follow your quiche. If you need a reason to visit Brighton this is it! I used to work across the road from this patisserie and I ended up visiting them every day. Their products range from freshly made bread, to amazing savory and sweets treats, great & filling sandwiches all served by super friendly staff., what more does one need. Some of the things you must try are the: apricot danish, almond croissants & brown bread, or pretty much everything else they sell you cant really go wrong.. They usually have a stall just outside the station but I would recommend going to the store instead as there is greater variety and the stuff are usually more fresh since they are not outdoors for the whole day. They also make hot chocolate by melting real dark chocolate bits so that's well worth a try! read more

I live closer to the Western Road Real Patisserie. Same stuff sold, extremely popular place. If you want the full choice of pastries, you have to get there early in the morning. The range goes from cheap but exquisite pastries, to fancy pies and cakes so beautifully decorated, you daren't eat them. Their savouries are also delicious. Sausage rolls will never be the same. Proper meat, melt-in-the-mouth pastry and really filling. Their spinach puffs are divine. As mentioned in another review, you can put on weight. Being French, I've been on the hunt for a good boulangerie-patisserie from the first day I moved to Brighton 6 years ago. Since finding Real Patisserie, I'm not looking anymore! They have a wide variety of products: basic to fancy breads, savoury quiches, baguettes sandwiches, sweet tarts (the lemon tart is just A-MA-ZING!) or buttery pains au chocolat - you name it, they have it! In my top list sit their croissants that are just as good as what you get in France and their chewy brown bread which is to die for, light with a nice crispy crust. I used to work in the buildings opposite so my colleagues and me used to get our lunches there often. Out of all of us, I don't know anyone who has ever been disappointed with Real Patisserie. It's a bit more expensive than the average boulangerie but it is worth every penny. They also have a stall outside Brighton station so if you're in a rush to catch your train after work you still can get your "bread fix"! read more

My friends and I were visiting Brighton for a day which was more than three years ago, so this review was long overdue! We were all hungry after one of our friends had her haircut at Jimmy Chop Chop. We found this place which happened to be nearby. And boy oh boy did we lucked out! We grab some quiches, a brie sandwich, and some pastries. I recalled one of the quiches had some Spanish chorizo and cherry tomatoes in it, and it was just heaven. Right now, my mouth is salivating at the thought of it. One of my friends had the brie sandwich, and she cannot stop raving about it for days. I wished they opened a place in California, so then I would waste just gas money instead of forking over a plane ticket to fly across the pond. read more

A very delectable sweet things place, great for its tiny sweet tarts and pies that are great finger food for parties or a good little sugar hit if you are too ashamed to jam the whole cream filled éclair in whilst you shop. My favourite is their apple tarts, the apple is juicy and sweet and the pastry is gorgeous. Possibly one of Brighton's most yummy and well finished Bakeries for the sweet toothed. read more

The best freshly made bread you can get in Brighton-even all the restaurants proudly write on their menus if the bread comes from the real patisserie! Staff are very friendly, always up for a chat and the coffee is smooth and strong and lovely. Downside is its more like a deli/bakery rather than a cafe and sadly there is no seating area. Its a shame as the bread there really is so good that it would be fantastic to have a cappachino and some freshly baked sour dough bread or a pain au chocolate in house and relax and enjoy-however im afraid its take away only. read more

The pastries here are superb, as good as anything in France. The chocolate almond croissants in particular are just amazing, and I will walk well out of my way to treat myself to one. Everything is freshly baked and delicious, and reasonably priced, just like almost every bakery in France but which English bakeries do not seem to be able to get right. Great patisserie/ French style bakers. The Western Road branch which used to be the jewel in the crown has seen its standards dropped after the renovation. Particularly angry the chausson au pommes was replaced by a underwhelming Danish apple tart. I think standards are being kept up at the Kemp town and central Brighton branches but Western road needs to pull its finger out especially with the many blossoming bakeries developing around that area. read more

This place is simply divine. You cant get any more authentic French than this, unless you went to France of course, but even then I'd be surprised if you found better pastry than this. Everything in this place tastes exquisite. Their quiches are the best in the world and they do these lovely dark chocolate things that can only be described as food from paradise. After moving from Sydney to Brighton I was searching for an organic bakery (there are many in Sydney!) This patisserie makes the best selection of bread and pastries- the sourdough spelt is fantastic (I couldn't find this anywhere else in Brighton!) This is the smaller of the two Real Patisseries in Brighton- a satellite of the first and main Real Patisserie on Western Road. This branch doesn't have anywhere to sit but is given over to selling the Real Patisserie's AMAZING bread and cakes. The idea is simple and so wonderfully executed- reproduce french style breadmaking and cake making in Brighton- so genuine tasting baguettes, and artisan loaves- I love their rye loaf, their chewy brown loaf (both are excellent with eggs for brunch) and their ciabattas (not French but yummy!). The prices are high compared to supermarket bread- on average £1.40 for a small loaf and £2.10 for a large. The large is really large though and the bread from this patisserie is a real labour of love and tastes like it. And their almond croissants...MY GOD! are they good. There is a queue round the corner at lunchtime for their quiche and sandwiches- and rightly so. read more

Closest thing there is to the really good boulangeries/patisseries in France baguettes are the best I've found this side of the channel and they always have delicious, authentic pastries (try the custard/berry/apricot filled ones for something different). Also do really good sour dough loaves and wheat cobs. Yummy quiches and tarts too. read more
