Great guy, great work, and a reasonable price. I had a few random repairs to do in my rental unit upstairs and Edwin came up as one of the most highly recommended guys on Yelp. I guess the other choice was the Handsome Handyman, but he's not as local and I'll let the ladies fight over his handsome services. Not that the ladies shouldn't choose Edwin either - he's competent, prompt, listens carefully to what you want done and does great work based on that. Good cleanup too. And maybe you'll find him as handsome as that other guy, who knows? As an aside, I really like the idea of using Yelp to review and find contractors rather than a paid site like Angie's List. Why not use the great Yelp system that's already in place? Let's build a great database of reviews for contractors . . . I had Edwin (with a little help the second day from his brother Claudio) replace a damaged door upstairs, replace a broken bathroom soap dish with a few tiles, mount a wire soap dish to the wall, (a much better design IMHO - the tile soap dishes always get soap scum on them and are generally in the way) patch some parts of the wall that had been damaged, and put a trap door in my bathroom ceiling that lets you service the upstairs tub plumbing since that sprung a leak a while back. It had been fixed, but the hole in the ceiling hadn't. Everything was done with an eye towards appearance and quality, and I was impressed especially with how he tried to match the "splatter" wall coating that was up there before on the drywall that replaced it, the quality of the bathroom job, and the speed and quality with which he did the trapdoor. He really seems to be able to provide quick, high-quality solutions to home maintenance projects. We talked about some bigger projects later on, so hopefully the New Year will be prosperous enough to tackle those too . . . thanks Edwin! read more

I had a wooden dock that had to be repaired right away before the Alameda lagoons refilled. Edwin said it wasn't really his specialty, but he would get the job done. Edwin was great! Our new house had a huge broken window that caused leaking into our basement. Edwin is spot on! So far he has completed a kitchen remodel laying tile, installing various appliances, and applying crown-molding throughout the kitchen at the ceiling and baseboards. Edwin removed some very difficult wallpaper from three of my bedrooms, as well as finished the walls to make them look brand new. Edwin built us a fence and gate. This was not your ordinary fence - it was a very custom job to be built from our own plans. He did a great job of suggesting ways that we could be sure that the fence posts would be built to last using metal anchors that he spray painted to look like cast iron. Instead of just nailing together the decorative pieces in the top section, he joined them with glue - a very professional treatment that he chose because he is proud of a job well done. The gate is gorgeous, also using joinery rather than nails. Edwin is friendly, on time, and extremely fair in his pricing. He worked with us to make design modifications along the way. We were glad that we were home throughout the process - it helped to keep the lines of communication open. I feel that it is critical for the homeowner and contractor to work together as a team, and we found Edwin to be very responsive to any suggestions we had to share about design decisions. Based on the reviews on Yelp, I called Edwin to schedule a bid to do some small odd jobs in my newly purchased home. When he answered the phone, he sounded somewhat tired, distracted and uninterested. I asked him if we could schedule a time for him to come to my home to give me an estimate bid, and he asked me if he could call me back later that day. I don't know if he'll call me back or not, but I was surprised that he could not figure out his schedule while on the phone with me and that he sounded so unenthusiastic and unenergetic. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I just caught him at a bad time and that our next interaction will change my mind. I'll update the posting with an updated review afterwards. UPDATE: Edwin did call back and we scheduled a time for him to come by my home. When we met, he was friendlier than he sounded on the phone. I showed him the work that I needed done, and during the walkaround, he told me that he was busy and could not be available to do the big jobs I needed done ASAP until next month. Of course, he did not say this during the phone call. Not sure why he waited (perhaps to see if my home was worth the time & money? I can only speculate), but had he told me this during the phone call, I would not have wasted our time meeting in person. Perhaps the work I needed done wasn't very challenging but professional courtesy does not cost anything, and my time & money is arguably just as valuable as anyone else's. Edwin is a knight in camo shorts -- he came to our household rescue! I found Edwin on Yelp after suffering a year long home improvement NIGHTMARE with Hands-On contracting. Needless to say I was gun shy for quite a while but when I found the Ready2Serve profile and checked the web Site I was struck by two things, his motto at the top of the page, "When Integrity Counts" and the photo of him and his 2 big dogs. The unfinished projects that were left to do amounted to a big job, but he didn't bat an eye. And though his estimate for the time needed was short, the depth of our issues were not obvious as the contractor's complete incompetence was brought to light as Edwin and his brother worked. They worked at a good pace, and asked questions when unclear and got more done on the house in 2 weeks than our previous contractors had in 6 months! We had Ready2Serve finish up 2 bathrooms including tile work, and painting on top of a few other un-sightly odds and ends that needed completion. Unlike the Hands-On they always showed up for work when they said they would, were always on time or called if they even thought there would be any chance of being late which they never were. And very important to us, he got along well with our dog straight off and our dog is very shy and does'nt trust any one right away. The only minor negative thing was that when he gave me shopping errands he did not always explain all the elements needed to be purchased which resulted in multiple trips. He is polite and honest, a good craftsman. We'd hire him again in a heart beat! read more

I am very disappointed to have to write this review. Edwin came highly recommended on Yelp which is why I even called him in the first place. We asked him to complete a small job for us (replacing our old oven/microwave, and cabinet modifications) and he agreed to do the work, but subsequently never returned my calls (3 separate calls). Mr. Betancourt is an outstanding carpenter. He installed several windows in my home recently and he did so quickly and efficiently. Mr. Betancourt has the skills and experience to resolve any obstacle or difficulty that might come up in a remodel. This is especially important when working on a home that was built in the 1920's! Edwin built a new mantel for my fireplace, built some bookshelves on either side of the mantel and put in new baseboards all in my living room. The work he did is wonderful. I gave him a picture of what I wanted done and he built everything exactly like the photo. He even picked out cute doorknobs for the glass doors on the bookshelves that perfectly matched the furniture that had not even been moved in yet! He worked very efficiently and was extremely clean. There was not a speck of dust, a paint drop or piece of wood left behind. I would choose him again in a heartbeat the next time a project comes up in my home....and there will be more. read more

Edwin did a great job with our bathroom remodel. He and his brother laid the 12x12 ceramic tile, installed the new granite countertop, hardware and sinks, and refreshed the built-in cabinet. He is as warm, professional and caring about his work as the other reviews state. My 3 yr old daughter also enjoyed his friendship while he was working in our home. I'm giving Edwin 4 stars and not 5 because of a few details that weren't perfect. This was the first remodeling contractor we hired in about 8 years so I wasn't sure of how much detail I needed to provide.
