Hoyts Greensborough - I know, the lighting is tough. But these are the brand spanking new leather reclining seats.

The reclining chairs are here! And Ben & Jerrys too! My word, I am surprised. So caught off guard, hearing from a whisper that Greensy had spruced itself up. So I went on my Saturday night and was shocked. What a transformation. If you are after foodie options before heading in, there are heaps from pho to dumplings to getting a mean burger and shake. The theatres all now have reclining seats. Sure they forgot about doing up the screens, so there is a larger projection, but I'll hand it to them with these nice seats. The theatres are small, and movie times can really vary, sometimes they have strange showing times for what your after. It's now been my go-to movie theatre, not only is it so close but with the refurb, they really did well to bring another reason to go to Greensy. Pro-tips: Tuesdays are cheap days with $13 tickets. There's free parking. Anyone with Optus as a provider can purchase Optus Perks tickets for $15.

Boasting a licensed bar offering coffee, food and some pretty damn good ice cream, The Palace Westgarth is notable for its all inclusive and highly eclectic film programme which runs the gauntlet from Hollywood blockbusters to European film festivals and countless indie flicks in between. This particular outpost of the boutique Palace chain also has special events such as its Friday night 'Cult Vault' screenings showcasing classic and cult cinema. A must visit for its three state of the art screens, diverse film programme and culturally significant location.

Unfortunately I have to say that the Palace Westgarth does not always show movies to warrant people from all over Melbourne knowing it's presence. Don't get me wrong the Palace Westgarth does show many great movies and has a number of great film festivals throughout the year - including the Spanish and French ones of most note. It has the Friday night film vault where they show old school movies usually of the horror or other cult genres at the stoke of midnight. However, most of the time I personally feel that they don't show a great selection of films. They don't show many blockbusters, which is fine, but they also don't show that many independent films either. In fact it seems to me that a large component of their catalogue includes kids movies, second rate British romantic comedies and cheap Hollywood films. All this means is that I find I never end up going all that often to a cinema which I desperately want to support.

There aren't many times I am impressed by a movie theatre, but this one is a gem. With an Art Deco…read morestyle restaurant, it's own bar, this movie theatre is no typical cinemas, it has layers to love. This movie theatre gives off an aura that brings you back to what movie going experiences used to be, back in the day when it wasn't just a rock up in sweat pants cause no one can see you in the dark kinda thing to do. This is a classy place. They have their own restaurant and bar, so you can pop in before your movie for a bite or drink. It really steps up the competition for a going to the movies night out. Clearly at United Craigieburn they are doing something right. Because I left thinking how hard it'll be to settle for those cheap Optus movie prices or any local theatre for that matter. Why when a planned drive away in far off Craigieburn are delightful theatres waiting for you? They really did a wonderful job with the theatres, they are so large you can practically fit a circus inside. It's separated so the people who opt for reclining chair and food service are on the bottom nearest the screen, and everyone else is on top. For an extra $9 a ticket you get the reclining comfy couch chair movie experience with waiter service. Move aside pricey over the top Hoyts Gold Class. The seating in the theatre is that much angled that a giant basketball player could sit in front of you and you wouldn't even see the top of his head. Everyone gets a spacey good seat here without bumping elbows into a neighbor. The screen itself is massive. Like you can fall into the movie massive. The staff all wear a really cute themed uniforms. And everything is like a cherry on top. It has a new feel to it, even though it's probably been there for years. The candy bar isn't over priced. They don't allow in outside food, which is how a movie theatre should be. Oh and there's none of this allocated seat business. This place reminds me of a classy movie theatre back home and all in all I give it a huge thumbs up.

Today on the 4th of March 2017, I came into your venue to watch the 8:30pm session of Logan, a…read moremovie I have been super excited about for a while. To start with, I am never one to complain, or go out of my way to leave a negative review but I have never been so outraged & disappointed in customer service. I ordered my tickets online & decided to upgrade to grand recliner seating. My partner & I paid for the grand recliner seating in D3 & D4 (I'm being super specific so management can actually look into this). Despite presenting my ticket twice at the counter, the lady that served us was rude & made us feel extremely uncomfortable, as she repeatedly asked if we were actually meant to be in the grand recliner seating. She proceeded to take our order & when we asked if the food was going to be delivered to us she said only the pizza. As we waited on the side to receive the rest of our order she proceeded to take the next persons order (which we had to wait for her to complete) as she hadn't given us our choctops. Once we entered the cinema there were two visible workers, a young man seating the guests & another kneeling down in the row we were meant to be seated in. Both team members appeared to be having a personal chat with the four young guys seated where we PAID to be. Both workers appeared to be engaging in a personal conversation with the guys who were on our seats. The team member seating guests then removed himself from the conversation & asked us to present our tickets, as he noticed the tickets belonged to the seats that their friends were in, we were redirected to the broken recliner seats in the next row up. We were then approached by another team member, this time a female who left her broom near us & asked that we present our tickets. Once we did she said that she would have to check up to see if it's correct, despite having told her it was her colleague that had seated us there. As we were waiting for her to return, she had another team member stand over us. At this stage this was the third instance where we felt super unwelcome. A couple of minutes later another couple had entered & told the other two guys in the row that they were in their seats, the "guest" simply replied with they moved you. Not only was is difficult & extremely uncomfortable to see from our seats the absolute highlight of it was when our pizza was delivered to our original seating & the guys ate it at no charge. Which should be no surprise as I don't believe they paid for their seating either. It wasn't until towards the end of the movie when we still hadn't received our pizza that we approached the team member who said it was our fault as we had changed our seating. We weren't even offered a refund the best they could do was a voucher. Which is useless as we, along with all of our friends will not be returning to your establishment. For a business that wants to actually compete in the industry perhaps you should train your staff on guest services & remind them that the reason they have a job, is because of them. Needless to say, despite being to your venue more then once, if people do choose to come, I wouldn't recommend upgrading to grand recliners at all. I've enjoyed myself more in normal seating. Save yourselves the $10 unless you want to be treated like a thief that doesn't feel welcomed. After this experience I would rather pay extra & go Hoyt's or Village cinemas. The only reason I would even give a star besides not being able to give a 0 is that the lady that redeemed the ticket was actually polite. Regards.
