During my time volunteering, I did enjoy getting to know some of the families who came through the lines, connecting with other college students, and working with a few kind staff members. Helping people in the community was meaningful. However, my overall experience was disappointing due to the behavior of some long-time "regular volunteers." I frequently observed volunteers speaking harshly to people receiving food, yelling at them, and showing little patience when there were language barriers. I even witnessed a volunteer smack someone's hand away from the produce boxes. While I understand there are rules that must be followed, the way some people were treated felt disrespectful and lacking empathy. I also noticed inconsistency in how rules were enforced. Volunteers were told not to leave their stations or keep water on the floor, yet some long-time volunteers regularly ignored these rules themselves. There was also frequent gossip and negative talk about other volunteers. Sacred Heart serves people who are often already going through difficult circumstances. Compassion and respect should always be at the center of that work. Unfortunately, I didn't always see that reflected in the environment. I hope the organization takes time to evaluate volunteer conduct and reinforce the importance of empathy when working with the community.

Talks about random things unrelated to the health of patient. Disorganized does not follow through, gives misleading/false information, is disconnected with partnering departments within the same building/healthcare system. What this place does right is having a attention-grabbing logo that I see all over the city. A wonderful mission statement that initially made this place seem appealing and myself hopeful. Other than the logo and mission statement, it has been unhelpful and disempowering experiences to seek help here. My goal is to leave the county and state as soon as I can. The quality of life here and the organizations that claim to make differences in the lives of their communities leave patients grappling with issues and stuck at square one. Well darn it. Update: If I emailed them it would had totally changed the poor quality care and lack of organization here. My bad! And if I emailed them it would had changed the poor quality that they were unaware of.the problem with that is it's not my job as the patient to provide feedback relating to oversight and quality control issues. The patient is not responsible to waste any more of their time chasing better treatment within a facility that already demonstrates incompetence. The. Next job I have is to find a place where my health needs are met. The lack of help here makes patients suffer with illness and injuries further disrupting their quality of lives and functioning. Having volunteered in the past, I had some free time and decided to put that to a good cause. This particular location is a food sorting the distribution center. The 5 days (2 hour shifts) I was there we sorted apples, carrots, pears, built boxes (I liked doing that), made vegetable boxes etc. Sorting the bad batch of zucchini was tough but very satisfying to see how much we were able to salvage.
