I'm an out of town landlord needing some structural repairs to my garage damaged by termites and dry rot due to water intrusion. I found Rick on yelp, read his reviews and picked him based on similar type of work. Read the negative reviews he had but contacted him anyway. Without knowing or meeting him he immediately set up an appointment to see the job through my tenant. After the site visit he prepared a detailed proposal, which looked like he was familiar with the scope of work I needed. He did this almost contactless with my tenant, which I appreciated in this era of Covid. We reviewed the written proposal over the phone, came to a meeting of the minds really fast. My tenant was moving out in 2 weeks so he agreed to start the work the day they moved. I needed quick turnaround so I could re-rent the property. All the time I was long distance, never meeting him and he completed the work (replaced sill plates) in 3 days.i met Rick 2 days after he finished the work. I was pleasantly surprised, he executed the work exactly as the proposal stated. Prices were very reasonable. Timing was better than I would have expected. Saved me time, all without actually meeting until after the work was done. I will call him in the future to take care of other issues with my rental property. Thank you Rick! read more

RDM Construction built a small deck landing, stairs, and a pergola for my back yard. They also fixed some structural foundation issues, stuccoed the back of my house and side of my garage, and installed a sliding glass door. Rick Miller, owner of RDM Construction, was very courteous and knowledgeable. Rick dealt with the pricing and estimates himself and came by the project fairly often. He did have a construction manager on site that did a lot of the day to day operation and work. Rick's crew worked hard and seemed very trustworthy. We had some minor issues arise on occasion and Rick attempted to rectify them at minimal cost. Rick is a solid contractor to hire. All-in-all, RDM is a good "bulk" construction company. In other words, from my experience, they seem to do things like foundation work, framing, and stucco very well. Where they lacked a bit on my project was the finite details. PRO's Honest and trustworthy Does well with "bulk" contruction Always answered my calls promptly Lower cost price than the competitors CON's Finished work not always as detailed as it could have been Did not initiate contact regularly Was a bit over the time frame we had agreed to (though to be fair, some of this was weather related.) Rick Miller and his team at RDM Construction did an outstanding job repairing the flashing and stucco around two of our windows. The work was done well, Rick was very clear in his assessment of the work, and everyone involved was great. The price also was very good compared to another estimate I got. I hired RDM to build an addition to my home in Berkeley. At first, things went well. The foundation and framing were done fairly quickly, and I was pleased with the quality of the work. But when the plumbing and electricity needed to be done, things slowed down considerably. The subcontractors Rick insisted on using were only available at odd times, like for a couple of hours on alternate weekends. My yard and the public area in front of my house was a maze of trenches for a period of months, and then there were further delays because the plumber used the wrong type of pipe and had to replace it. The electrician stopped showing up altogether due to some kind of payment dispute with Rick. Finally I had to call it quits with them so I could finally finish the job with someone else, whereupon Rick got belligerent and engaged in a shouting match with me at my doorstep. Although he agreed to return my approved plans and inspector's job cards, he never did, costing me a lot of money and further delays. If all you need is carpentry, Rick Miller might be worth considering, but if you need someone who can manage subcontractors and complete a complicated job on time, I'd say look elsewhere. read more

We initially found RDM when searching for a structural engineer due to some serious flooring issues at a newly purchased but very old home. We were concurrently looking for a design build firm to completely reconstruct the house. Long story short, Rick not only answered our first call, but made the time to stop by our location to immediately assess the situation, and ended up impressing us so much with his overall knowledge that we made an on the spot decision to give him the entire job if he would take it. Thankfully, he did! We knew from the get go that this was going to be huge undertaking, basically tearing the house down to the bones and rebuilding. Rick and his team not only accommodated every request where possible, but were the most trustworthy, pleasant crew you could imagine. Being a drawn out, potentially very stressful process, the relational aspect was extremely important to us. Our toddler was never "in the way" when he clearly was LOL, and "uncle Rick" might as well really be family to him for all he knows given the amount of facetime we've had. Rick, his foreman Fabian, and the others have been extremely attentive to detail and professional beyond expectation. We could not recommend them more highly and will probably have to update this review, and post pictures too, as more comes to mind, although this is already a treatise of sorts! read more

I have only good things to say about Rick Miller and RDM Construction. I had just about given up hope about finding a contractor who had ideas and experience in stabilizing and waterproofing a 92 year old tilting and rotting detached garage for my 1923 bungalow. Rick had done similar projects and was able to quickly outline the extent of the work that was going to be required. I felt that his quote was reasonable and he identified all the places where he thought that a change order might be required once the work got underway. That was definitely true for the foundation he found after removing the old wooden floor. The job took longer than expected because of the recent rain storms, but I really like his crew. They arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up every day. Rick has good communication skills and was always on top of everything and available to me when I had questions.
