Thankfully, I contacted Gibellino Construction and spoke with directly with Gabe on that first phone call. He was helpful, knowledgeable and responsive. He immediately put my mind at ease. To say that the situation was challenging would be an understatement, but Gabe never wavered in dealing with the insurance company and the many vendors that were involved in the reconstruction of my home. Their work is impeccable, and Gabe spent many hours working on my case to ensure that everything was done to my specifications and within the allotted budget. He also worked tirelessly to incorporate some other renovation projects into the rebuild so that everything would be done on time. While I hope that no one reading this suffers a loss due to fire, flood or some other disaster, if you do, I highly recommend Gibellino Construction as one of your first phone calls! I will use them again should I have any other home renovation projects in the future.

In September 2019, my wife and I purchased an $850,000 home - a house which was built by John…read moreCooksey and his partner Jim Thorpe. The house was built in 2018 and we were the second owners in less than a year. One month after moving into the house, the tiled shower in the master bathroom leaked through the floor. While Mr. Cooksey initially said that he would fix the issue, he ultimately hid behind the work of his shoddy contractor and refused to fix the issue properly. More importantly, (1) we believe that he fraudulently knew about this issue, lied to the prior homeowner about the source of the leak known by the parties at the time of the sale in 2018 and "fixed" the issue at the time by covering up the leak rather than truly fixing it, and (2) Mr. Cooksey clearly suffers from alcohol abuse. Mr. Cooksey wreaked of alcohol when we met with him (before we even knew about the leaks, we invited Mr. Cooksey to our house to receive a bid on the installation of bookshelves and other wood work; however, my wife and I immediately decided not to move forward because he was severely intoxicated during the visit), appeared drunk during every verbal conversation and our town's permit office reported to us that Mr. Cooksey routinely appeared under the influence when he visited the office. We've also been told by our town's construction office as well as others (including attorneys we've consulted) that Mr. Cooksey is known to exhibit behavior consistent with that of an alcoholic and we understand that he has faced litigation and is currently facing litigation or complaints from others. This pattern of behavior has led to my wife and I now needing to replace three tiled bathrooms in our house that leak less than one year after they were built - expected to costs us upwards of $50,000. We cannot, in good conscience, not share our experience with this builder with others. We firmly believe that Mr. Cooksey should not be permitted to continue building or remodeling houses in the State of NJ. We sincerely hope that others don't have to experience anything similar to what we've had to endure.

Well, we're less impressed, now. While our first experience with the company was textbook-perfect,…read morea couple of weeks later, we discovered a puddle down back above the drain field. We don't blame the company for doing something wrong, at all. In hindsight, WE were doing a lot of things wrong for good septic system maintenance. We called their office and left a message with the receptionist; no reply. Over the next couple of weeks, we called several more times. The last time, we did get a call back, saying that they'd try to come out in the afternoon to check it out. They never came by and never called again. In the long run, maybe they did us a favor. In the weeks since, we've been doing a lot of research and have discovered a few things we can try as "home remedies" before spending thousands to have the drain field dug up. No more than three loads of laundry per day, fewer flushes, switching soaps and detergents to more septic-friendly products, dryer sheets instead of liquid softeners, and "shocking" the system with extra Rid-X treatments. It all seems to be working; the puddle is much smaller and some days there's no puddle visible. Obviously, drain field work is a LOT more work than draining a septic tank. Maybe they just prefer to not deal with them, but we do wish they could have said so instead of stringing us along. Honesty up front wouldn't have cost them two stars in my review.
