This is Junior A withing the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The players are within the 16-20 year range and many of them already have NHL contracts. I saved my program on the off chance that I once saw a furture star play here on his way up. The Sarnia Sting play at the arena at Lambton College and plenty of free parking was available. There were lots of knowledgeable hockey people here, although I was surprised that the arena was only half full at game time. The place also had a family feel and it could have been my mother selling those 50-50 tickets or raffling off the Mark Kati jersey. There was also a nice bar at center ice, of which you could see another game on the rink on the other side. The Sarnia Sting lost decisively that night and later in the week were eliminated in the playoffs. It was 5-0 after 2 periods and the 3rd period pretty much turned into a scrum as the home team got more than a little bit frustrated. The guys in back of me did point out the potential shining lights for next season as this Canadian pastime continues on. And just down the road, the Sarnia Legionaries (Junior B) were still in the playoffs......

This is a rad place to visit if you're in town and if you like poring over your exhibits! Admission…read moreis free to all as the vision of this place is to be a safe space for the community to connect, share stories, and discover new insights through art. So it won't cost you much to check it out! And if you would like to contribute, donations are welcome. Exhibitions seem to change every 1-4 months, so you could visit a few times a year and get new insights each time. There was an interesting selection of exhibits when I visited. When I was there, the exhibitions were about outsider art (art that may not be accepted by the art community as art, eg art that is compulsively produced, or art produced by cultural outsiders) and interactive art - in this case featuring a native Londoner (Ontario)) who mixes pop culture imagery, retro video games and audio into his art. The exhibitions challenged my thinking about art. I would love to come back again. While I didn't experience this, the website notes that there are family drop-ins every Sunday from 1-3pm which are free (with a suggested donation of $5/family)! Seems like a great way to introduce art to your family regardless of means. Staff were friendly! Counter staff took my backpack per their regulations (no charge for this). While exploring the exhibits, we also came across two volunteers who were able to point out some interesting points about the art, that we had not known or observed ourselves. This place is really making art available to the public. I will note that the staff didn't proactively offer the brochures available at the front desk, which were very helpful to navigate the exhibits. So, just make sure to pick them up before you enter the exhibits, and you could return them at the end to help this place save resources too! Unlike some other museums, this place was clean and not dusty feeling at all. It is also wheelchair accessible and claims on its website to allow items and service animals needed by visitors with disabilities!
