I lived at Hampton Arms (2700 Connecticut Ave) for 1yr4mo and having rented in NYC, SF, Seattle and…read moreSan Diego in the past, this was by far the best experience I've had renting. Despite being an older complex, it's very well maintained. My studio apartment unit had standard appliances, hardwood, AC and ceiling fans, under cabinet lighting, built-in cabinets + shelving, and LOTS of natural sunlight. Most importantly, it was immaculate, and I am a paranoid clean-freak. In the short time period I was there, the carpets in the hallway were deep cleaned, the walls got a fresh coat of paint, and the elevator floor rug/carpet was replaced twice. Despite the humid summers and cold winters in DC, I never had any heating/cooling problems and always felt comfortable and safe in my apartment.
In terms of management, the team at Shapiro & Company is amazing, very accommodating, and responsive to a shocking degree. If I placed a maintenance request during the weekday, it was addressed within 24 hrs, if not the same day. I once played a request to have a lightbulb in the ceiling fan changed, and when I returned from work the same day, not only was the lightbulb already switched out, but the pull chain that was partially broken (which I hadn't noticed) was also replaced and the repair man left me a handwritten note notifying me of the repairs that were made.
The team at the leasing office who handle move in/out, payments, and essentially everything under the sun are just as fantastic. Wryan is so personable, helpful and quick to reply to email, texts, etc, as were ALL the staff. Even the little things - like offering me a coffee from the staff kitchen when I was having a rough day, printing out an urgent document for me, providing us/residents free laundry coins as a Christmas treat, and offering to help carry heavy boxes down to the leasing office for mailing - really meant a lot to me over the year and made living there such an enjoyable experience. I've had experiences in the past where the last thing I want to do is reach out to my landlord (expecting to hear back never) or 'deal' with the leasing office/management, but my experience at Hampton Arms was the exact opposite. Everyone there was so friendly, helpful and warm.
I often feel nostalgic for my old DC apartment and much of that is due to the great team they have there and the attention they place on detail and providing professional and friendly residential services. I feel bad that it's even taken me this long to provide a review. Anyways, they're great!!! Apartments are fairly priced for the neighborhood and more than worth it given the wonderful management team!
