My one & only visit to Ray's Wash Tub was on October 24, 2009. I didn't even know Yelp existed at the time - but this fateful laundro-visit was burned straight on the hard-drive - completely bypassing the RAM field.
It had been a ten-day jaunt away from home (you guessed it - a peddler of important software for municipalities was I) and as luck would have it, the lodging I chanced upon just didn't have the equipment for laundering guest clothes.
With dirty laundry in abundance, I set out across the expanse that is Greenville and 'lo - from the distance I read "Wash Tub" - I knew I had arrived.
dropping the rented Sentra's transmission into low - I whinnied the iron mare into the stables and took out my roll-on (stuffed with the material to be addressed) and wheeled the lot right on in.
Perhaps times are a-changin', but at the time I was faced with a rustic lineup of both washers and dryers - all of varying capabilities. I rolled up to the superintendent and asked if there was any sort of "by-the-pound" service in which I could, er, "drop off & pick up" at a later time (preferably within a two-hour window).
At the time, there was no such service - possibly because of low demand from the area - so I broke down and had to do MY OWN LAUNDRY.
I know...
Nonetheless, with cheapie digital camera in tow - i decided to make hay of the situation and document this experience. Wait 'til the folks back at the country club get wind of this adventure!
Over the course of the 90 minutes - I came to appreciate the hard-working nature of the aging Speed Queen washer-extractor machines - along with the drying nature of the dryers. Furthermore, I really got to experience the surrounding 500 yards in all directions.
If ever in Greenville, NC - and If ever you find yourself without your valet - and push comes to shove - have your driver take you down to Ray's Wash Tub.
It's a hoot!
