We love huli-huli chicken so when we saw this spot on Yelp we knew we wanted to give it a try. The parking lot was pretty busy, they're off to the side of a grocery store and cars were coming in and out the whole time we were there. Definitely be careful coming in or backing out. It was a hot day when we stopped by and there was a short line. The team worked through orders pretty quickly as we all tried to find some shade. This is definitely a grab and go spot, and once we had our chicken we jumped back into the car to enjoy it. Don't forget to grab napkins. We've found huli-huli chicken is best enjoyed fresh, so we were dug in as soon as it was cool enough to enjoy without burning our mouths. We got a half chicken for $8.75 and also bought some spices to bring home to a friend. It was a solid spot.
If you travel to Hawaii, Huli Huli Chicken is one of foods that you have to try. It located in Haleiwa town. There's a open parking next to it. The staffs are all efficient and friendly. The ambiance is very simple. You can see the process of making the chicken. I ordered one whole chicken. The waiting time was around 15-20 mins. The chicken is fully marinated and tender. It's worth it to drive to North Shore to try this Huli Huli chicken.
My friends and I unintentionally went on a North Shore food crawl on our last day in Oahu and ended up at Ray's Kiawe Broiled Chicken. When I say this was the most MOIST JUICIEST FLAVORFUL CHICKEN EVER -- I mean it. We drove by and we noticed there were tons of ppl waiting in line -- that caught our interest. For a whooping $18, you get a full broiled chicken + the grandma special sauce which paired SO NICELY with the chicken. The chicken was tender + juicy + well flavored. We waited a bit for our chicken but it was worth it. There isn't seating to eat here but we walked across the street to where Island Vintage and Matsumoto Shaved Ice and ate there. I will def recommend this place to family and friends and be back soon :-)
Was able to catch them at this location since they only here Tuesday and Thursday and glad we did. This is imo the best Huli Huli chicken on da island. I've had at other locations and this one is the most flavorful and juicy chicken we've had here. Would definitely keep this place on list as must stop when visiting.

This chicken right here was booommmbbb! I was so delightfully surprised with how good it was. Perfect marinade- cooked just right with every single piece left juicy. I did not mind the vinegar sauce on the side too- I actually appreciated that it kinda cut the richness of the chicken. The drive and wait was worth it. Got the plate lunch finally! I went before the huge lunch rush on Sunday and only waited about 5-10 minutes. It was a decent price, $15. Chicken was cooked well. Good coleslaw. I don't like the sauce, it was a little too vinegar forward for me, and nothing really needed it.
Service was short and quick. Too busy for chatting. The food come out fairly fast considering how fresh off the spike it is. The team there works efficiently so as soon as the chickens come off, it's in the box! This is a food stall in the middle of a parking lot, so everything is to go. No worries tho as there are many options for seating a walk away! This is 100% island vibes. It's meant to be eaten at the beach. The chicken is excellent. Not dry at all, and cooked perfectly. The portions are fairly small. I would say a 1/2 chicken is good for one person- a hungry person. These chickens aren't Costco chicken, they're fresh, chickens are naturally big! lol I recommend eating with the sauce they have- it's vinegary and soy sauce-esque. 100% a must try!
Love that huli huli chicken taste. Brings back memories of fundraisers and childhood. I'll just have to savor all I can of the less than 1.91 lb. $17 whole chicken (including 3 plastic bags).
Ray's is a sensory treat. You can enjoy it hundreds of yards before you even get there - by taking in that delicious scent wafting through the air. And then when you taste the chicken - wow! Absolutely outstanding! Bought some of the seasoning/rub to try this at home but I doubt it will be just as good.

First timer here. Absolute gas. I got a whole chicken, cut. Waited a half hour. Smashed the entire thing to my dome. Can't speak for the sides, but the chicken itself was seasoned perfectly. Not overly salty which I really love. They were using big block quality mesquite wood charcoal for it and I noticed they actually put love into every chicken. I liked seeing them care about the flies and try and do what they could do keep them away. The vibes are chill and the food is on point. People saying that it needs more seasoning just didn't order correctly. You can order extra mother's seasoning for it, or buy your own Ray's seasoning to put on. Slit you like salt so much, In suggest salt packets in your purse or wallet. Some people like to taste the flavor of the meat. Cheers! read more

Ray's Kiawe Broiled Chicken is a local favorite that has a pretty intense following. Many people come here to enjoy the chicken. It is literally cooked outside on a nice fire. Waited in line for a little bit and maybe about 30 minutes our chicken was done. Ordered just a whole chicken to try and this was my first time having it. The seasoning is light and the chicken is juicy. I would say this actually tasted pretty alright. But I think I like mine slightly saltier or seasoned more. But overall if you ever see this off the road you should stop by and try it out. read more

Sometimes the simplest food in life is the best! When you are in Oahu, please make time for some great local foods. Just good old chicken and rice will always hit. The chicken was broiled right outside and you can see of fleet of them being rotisseried over charcoal. I don't even know if that's a word Lol. They seasoned the chicken really well and the chicken was super juicy and not dry at all. I should have spent extra dollars for their seasoning packet to take home. Aside from how delicious it was, the wait was so long though. Not sure if it's like that everyday or maybe the time I came, off season + weekend. I waited for an hour for my order... I respect these young adults grinding and putting up with the business, I think a few more hands would have made it more efficient. There were at least 40 orders before me and would have been helpful to have another person packing up the food to be honest. read more

My sister has been living on Oahu for 13 years now and I can't believe out of all the times I've visited, I've never tried huli huli chicken from anywhere. Well, I finally got to try it on this trip. We came by on a Sunday at 11 and there was no line. We were doing our own North Shore food crawl, so we got half a chicken to share with everyone. The chicken was so tender and flavorful - even the white meat. Even my niece, who doesn't really eat chicken, liked it. It's also kind of fun watching them cook all the chicken. I'm so happy to have found this place and will definitely be back for my next visit to the island. read more

I went here today and got their chicken plate that comes with rice and their yummy sauce. The seasoning they use for their chicken is soooo good and love that crack sauce too! Best Huli Huli chicken on Oahu! I ordered a drink to go with my meal which was Strawberry Diamond head soda because this is so nostalgic! They sell their seasoning here too if you ever wanna try to use it at home. This spot is so good and chicken is so juicy and tasty! read more

When in North Shore, you won't miss Ray's on the side of the street cooking up some chicken. Their set-up is all outside underneath some tarp which gives it a very local vibe. We ordered our food and they told us to come back in 15 minutes to get it and they were spot-on with their timing. You can watch the whole cooking process from when the chickens get prepped all the way to them putting in your to go box. The chicken was soft and delicious plus the coleslaw really helps round it all out. We also got a side of Grandma's sauce (vinegar, chili pepper, shoyu) to dip the chicken in. Although I enjoyed the flavor together, the combination was a bit too salty. Parts of the chicken were moist while some other parts were a bit dry. But for the price and quality of the food, Ray's is definitely worth a stop. You can't find a better value-to-quality ratio for your money in North Shore. read more
Located in Haleiwa on Kamehameha Hwy. There is no parking lot next to it. There is parking at various places a short walk away. I posted a photo of the current prices as of 5/1/2023. Basically half chicken $7.50 and whole $15. You can see it all cooking in front of you and coming off the spit. It was very good and its worthwhile to get Grandmas sauce, yes its an extra dollar but might as well test it out. It can be busy and take some time but for some good local chicken its worthwhile. read more

A little shop hidden on the side of the road. We stopped towards the end of the day and they were cleaning up. They had a large area for their BBQ chickens and they were efficient. Smelled awesome when we pulled in. They made us a half a chicken, cut it up into nice sizes and a side order of 2 scoops of rice. The chicken was flavorful and not dry - not even the white meat! My wife isn't a huge chicken fan and kept talking about it. We had left over rice and chicken and made fried rice with eggs the next morning! read more
For starters this place is good. Just be sure you can wait a bit. The line can be long. I waited about 10 min in line and another 30+ min to receive the food. The plates are fresh and super hotttt, so just be careful. We like to grab our food and park at the beach and eat. So delicious. read more

Ray's is in Hale'iwa under a canopy with the chicken spits roasting over a trailer box of coals. You would think that you were at a county fair or farmer's market. The smoky coal-fueled aroma is unmistakable and seeps its way into the chicken meat. We ate some right away and it's incredibly tender, juicy and delicioius - not in-your-face delicious because they don't put any kind of heavy rub or spices and I'm sure they don't brine the chicken. It's just a good old-fashioned spit roast. The smoke on the palate keeps even for leftovers, but the chicken meat can dry up if you decide to keep for later. You can ask for Whole Chicken or Half Chicken, then can add on rice scoops and/or pineapple cole slaw, which was pretty basic, except for a few pineapple mini wedges mixed in. Overall, great value, and fun for visitors to see how they prepare and cook all the chickens at the same time. I would definitely come back and try 'Grandma's Sauce', which I forgot to get samples for. Next time - that's all... read more

HULI HULI. Means turning in Hawaiian. Rotisserie but the best flavor and combo of sauces and spices with a vinegar dipping sauce. SO TENDER. Chicken came out quick at 10:30 AM. Just a street stall so don't expect too much. No tables, just a parking lot so eat in ur car or bring it to a beach! Delicious. read more
For anyone that hasn't been to Oahu before, this truck is located in 'north shore' which, as you might guess, is on the northern section of the island. So, if you are without a car and staying in Honolulu/Waikiki area, you will be quite far. However, if you did rent a car, Ray's is a great stop while making your way around the island (I recommend going East then North from Waikiki). Make sure you check their hours and location as they may be in a different area depending on the day of the week! Hard to miss them as they're set up with a tarp tent and a mobile rotisserie (great for pictures). I recommend getting half a chicken for 1-2 people; if you like it, you can always get more since a whole chicken seemed to be exactly 2x the price. The sauce tasted like it was just straight shoyu which was way too salty for the already-salty chicken. They took digital payments when I was here! read more

Can't believe my first time here and realizing how much I've missed out! Seriously does taste as good as the photo looks. We waited about 20-30 min as we watched the chicken getting roasted. They pulled off a batch of chicken and cut it. Received super hot and after waiting for the chicken and having to smell the delicious smoky goodness, I was ready to eat! The line started getting ridiculously long, lots of tourists too. So great to see all the support. It's a good thing to be able to get huli huli chicken and not have to wait for a carnival like in the old days. Mister and I took our plate lunch that includes rice, chicken, sauce, cole slaw, and traveled not too far down the road parked at the boat harbor and scarfed our delicious food! The chicken was tender, juicy and very flavorful. Sort of wish the skin was a little rendered and crispy, but we absolutely enjoyed it still. Rice cooked perfectly, and the slaw added a nice sort of sweet touch as a side. As for the sauce, I didn't use any of it since the chicken tasted good as is. Check this place out!!! but be prepared to wait, long line and freshly cooked. All worth it! read more
We were driving through Haleiwa to grab acai bowls, the smells of the chicken cooking drew us in and we couldn't help but to grab some chicken. I lucked out because the lines were not too long and I was able to get my chicken within 10 minutes. The line got longer and the wait seemed to be getting longer as well. It was amazing!! The crispiness of the skin and the smokiness. Chicken was so tender! Don't forget to grab the pineapple coleslaw. read more
