When we vacation on the Mendocino Coast, Ray's in Cloverdale is our favorite stopping point. Situated about two hours from our Bay Area location, we come here for provisions, lunch and to stretch out the kinks. It's a wonderful grocery store with large selection, wide aisles and friendly service. Prices are good, much more reasonable than the small towns on the coast. On our recent trip we found everything from bread to blueberries, fruit to pepper spray. Blueberries were a delightful find considering supply chain issues have made then unavailable in the Bay Area for a month or so. Best 101 exit is 519 South Cloverdale Blvd. Other Cloverdale exits require you to backtrack through the town. read more

Worst grocery store ever! I've lived in town for awhile now, 7 years and it's the worst it's ever been. Cashiers cuss and just talk to each other- EVERYTHING is overpriced. About 3 times more pricey then Windsor stores...yesterday I was charged for 5 extra cans of Cat Food and Jonathan did not know how to take them off- so he gets mad at the machine and starts cussing. Is it me or is celery usually sold by the bunch, NOT the pound? I just popped in to Ray's Market to buy celery and they are selling it by the pound! At checkout I was shocked to find out my celery was $4.79!! None of the clerks or the produce manager were able to confirm that the pricing was input correctly and the manager who inputs prices wasn't available. No wonder everyone is piling into the Grocery Outlet! Unfortunately for me the Outlet was out of celery today. Not a big fan of Rays. read more

Rays is hit and miss for quality. They do a great roasted chicken if you want a quick meal. The produce seems to be low budget with a high budget price. I have grabbed out-dated dairy and meat items several times and many times have had to throw away avocados that were black inside. They carry most things you might be looking for, but just expect to pay premium prices. read more

What a huge disappointment this place is. I tell myself I'll never go back but then I break down because if the convenience and im let down again. This time it was frozen blueberries fir some homemade scones. They had obviously been thawed and refrozen because when we opened them it was a ball of blue ice. My wife and I went to Ray's to pick up a few things for dinner. We had planned on making a salad. As we walked over to the produce isle we were surprised of how unsanitary all the products were. We ended up going to the Safeway in Healdsburg instead. I'm not exactly sure how Ray's is still in business. Not only can you personalize your preferences, example: "please pick only green bananas", their "personal shopper" will call you to discuss substitutions if needed. "Mike" is "the shopper" we prefer - not only is he amiable, he really works hard to get your order just right - a terrific asset for Ray's. Place your order and preferred time, and call the store when you get there (I park right in front), pop your trunk and they'll be out shortly loading your vehicle with groceries. We stopped on our trip up North and boy am I glad we did! They have such clean restrooms, organized store layout and friendly customer service. If you get a chance to stop in you HAVE to check out their hot sauce collection. I have NEVER seen so many cool and unique options in my life. Ray's is a sad example of a food store. Everywhere else, and I mean this, products are a dollar less. It's like the management thinks, "okay, xx store in healdsburg and windsor sells the same product for this price. TACK on a dollar!" Everything in the store! They have something called "manager's specials", where prices are on sale. Those products are marked at other store competitive prices. Cloverdale is a bedroom community mostly consisting of elderly on a fixed income, or young families. Not much in between. Ray's is located from up north. This store is the farthest south they have. They don't care about Cloverdale. This is the honest to God's truth. Oliver's in Windsor is less expensive than Ray's market in Cloverdale. I wish that they'd close their doors. I truly do. The shelves these days are bare bones. They might as well close. The workers are unfriendly. The produce sucks badly. The prices are that of Whole Foods. I truely hate this store. I would give y'all 0 stars if I could. I've lived in Cloverdale my entire (almost) 30 years of life. It's always been the same. I read all these reviews and nothing changes, no responses from the management, nothing. I only shop at rays because I have no other choice some nights. Other than that I'd rather drive to healdsburg or Windsor. Where do I start? Everything is always expired! Always! The prices speak for themselves. They're literally a joke and your products don't deserve to even revive dollar tree quality recognition. Your produce as every other commenter has said, is GROSS! Moldy, old, rotten, squishy, nasty! Produce manager is the most pleasant person in that entire establishment. Your essential everyday products taste disgusting and are still the pretty penny price for a king! The remodel is hideous but that doesn't deter me from the store. And lastly, the staff. Including April and Rhonda, rude and unprofessional. All staff constantly talking drama amongst each other. Straight up rude and sometimes completely ignore me while talking to another employee about "why the last woman returned a moldy banana was being a rude bitch and screw her anyways". Grow up. Went to Rays on Tuesday, May 30th to buy a watermelon for a luncheon the next day. It was great - only $3.99 It was so good, in fact, I went back the next day because I wanted one for home. But now, they are $8.99 EACH!! I kept watching them (I am NOT about to buy a 9 dollar watermelon!). The price came down ONE DOLLAR! Let me just start out by saying that I live in Healdsburg, and my husband and I purposely drove up to Cloverdale to go to this grocery store, because we were tired of going to our local California chain store. Ray's may not necessarily be cheaper but they offer other products that we can't get anywhere else...including Walmart. We went there once or twice a few years ago, and I totally had forgotten they carry the Western Family Brand. This made me really happy because now I knew I could get some of the things that we have been looking for and at a decent price. Unlike some of the smaller, specialty stores in Healdsburg (one even carries the Western Family brand) this store, with it's larger square footage offers more products and doesn't cater to the cheaper mexican brands. Thank you! The store is conveniently located off Hwy 101 and has ample parking. You may spend a little more because they have more of the things you want and don't always buy, and you may spend a bit more time driving up there, but it is well worth it. read more

Ray's is conveniently close to the freeway, and was across from my motel. It's pretty clean, and has MOST of the staples you'd expect. Most. Let's start with the merchandising layout: THE LAYOUT WAS DESIGNED BY CRACK-MONKEYS WITH ADD. ..er, ...sorry for shouting, but really - monkeys and ADD are the ONLY explanation I have. Example: You would expect to find coffee filters near the coffee and tea, right? NOPE. Okay, kind of strange but perhaps in the paper-goods section? NOPE. They were with the coffee cups (makes sense?) - which were, in turn in the spice aisle. I saw any number of instances were items were placed in several odd places (Red Mill grains under the Pop-Tarts, and in the kichenwares - an aisle where they were the only food item...) The staff members who I asked (begged?) for guidance were as lost as I was ("I'm sorry, but this is the first day I've worked this week"), which leads me to believe that nothing has a 'home' on the shelves, and that the house-elves move things randomly after hours. Worst grocery store I've ever been inside. Make sure you look at the dates on everything you buy because a lot of it is expired. Even had expired can products. Went in to buy a vegetable platter and every tray had moldy tomatoes. When I told the guy working in produce he said I could buy it for half off....... no thanks! I am so amazed and grateful for Ray's in Cloverdale. A friend mentioned that they had online shopping(through Mercato) and curbside pickup. I had been driving to Safeway in Windsor for that service but not anymore. Michael,who usually fills the orders, its a gift. He contacts you if he needs to substitute anything or has a question. Michael always picks the best produce and meat for us. He even waited for the Sequoia milk delivery to make sure we had the freshest milk. I order on line, pick a pickup time, drive up and call Michael and out comes my order. No more lifting heavy packs of water. You have to try this service. Thanks Ray's read more

Prices are unreasonably high, the clerks range from bizarre to downright rude, and I've had to return more spoiled/damaged food there than any store in my 55 years on this planet. I live down the street from Ray's but don't shop there. Too many bad experiences. Got lazy today: I needed only a half-dozen eggs. So, to Ray's. I opened the first box of half-dozen and found a broken shell. Set it aside and opened another. Cracked. And another and another and gave up after the seventh box. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business. Food is expensive, often expired, and not kept at proper temperatures. We have been there three times and will no longer return there even though it's extremely close. On our last visit, my husband got a box of frozen waffles (we thought frozen food would be a safe option) and when he got home he took two waffles out to toast and they were already completely thawed out and not cold at all. However that being said there's really no excuse for continually having food that is Rhonda will before the expiry date this is an ongoing problem with this Store. I really find her prices to be absolutely ridiculous for example their English muffins normally run about five dollars were at Safeway in Healdsburg I can get my English muffins before around two dollars that three dollars for the savings no sleeves made up by the gas to go all the way down there. I feel sorry for the people living in Cloverdale when they don't have much choice other than Rays. Was in town for a collectors car show and decided to stop by and pick up stuff for dinner. My last time visiting a Rays was we stopped by a Rays in Oregon. That place was stellar, almost better than anything around. Their selection of seafood and fresh produce made me which we lived up there. Fast forward to today. Walking in the place is empty and the selection of produce was extensive but most of the items I looked at were old and not anywhere to the point of what I would purchase especially at the prices they were charging. I bough a piece of swordfish from the counter that was unimpressive. Either locals don't eat much seafood, but then looking at their dismal selection of fresh meat, I can see that perhaps its something else causing the pitiful selection. I do the shopping usually and remember pretty well the pricing on items that I regularly purchase. Walking by the packaged sausages, what I normally pay $4.99 on sale at Safeway, and what I thought was a hugh rip off at the new Oliver's which sells it for $ 8.49, Rays had the same package for $9.49. Huh? That 4 dollars more than Safeway , and you know Safeway isn't the cheapest place to buy stuff either. Comparing other items, like bottle soda, which everyone else sells for 90 to $1.00 Rays was selling it for $ 1.50 That's an indication that either they are going to wind up closing the doors soon or that Safeway needs to open up. As it is for that kind of price differential no wonder people drive down to Healdsburg to purchase all their items. Glad I don't live in Cloverdale, sad because it's a nice little town. read more

First of all let me just explain what a AWFUL company this is. I dont know why poor Cloverdale was left with this being the ONLY grocery store in town, but unfortunately, it is. People go here because they HAVE TO not because they actually like it. The only other grocery store is a 15 minute drive into Healdsburg. Thankfully they are building a Grocery Outlet..which isn't the best but it will be better than Rays! There are multiple reasons why this place should be shut down, nothing is ever stocked, no one is ever friendly, produce looks old and let me just say MOLDY! There was legit mold growing on produce and salami that we were picking up at the store and showed it to a clerk when we were leaving and he just took it and said "ok" and looked at us as if we were stupid. HELLO! THE FOOD THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SELL HAS MOLD ON IT! Not to mention all the display bottles of wine by the meat and seafood are all COVERED with dust, why doesn't anyone dust!?? The freezer isle has this big bins with no cover over the food to keep the cold in, well don't grab the first thing on the top because it will be half thawed out when you take it home.This place should be SHUT DOWN for ALL heath code violations. Who ever is managing this place is completely nonexistent and doesn't give a shit. My roommates and I literally walk away angry every single time we walk into this place. After this last time with the mold issue, i finally decided to write a review and i am calling the health inspector to go take a look at this place, because it should be shut down before poisoning the town. read more

New Floors but the veggies are the same....not good. This location got a face lift and it does look much better. I imagine with the competition from Grocery Outlet and Dahlia and Sage looming, they finally decided they needed to do something about this store. But the produce is the same...not very good quality. So it seems that with the new competition their customer base will change some. They will be in the middle, not the upscale store nor the bargain store either. However, they neglected to notice that their new customer base drives to Windsor to Raley's and/or Oliver's for the veggies! This customer base typically shops more on the perimeter of the store than in the middle! And they fixed the middle but not the perimeter. Do more market research and learn to focus on those customers that will be your target. The other area that needs work is customer service. Hopefully they are better training their staff or hiring new. Otherwise, all that remodeling investment will not help much. read more

Ray's is our hometown supermarket here in Cloverdale and, over the years, I've gotten pretty familiar with it. As it's the southernmost store in a chain of supermarkets primarily located in Oregon, most of our neighbors to the south have never heard of it. I don't have a huge amount to say about Ray's as a supermarket. They have lots of stuff, and their prices are about what I'd expect. Ray's has a full-service bakery and deli, and a video rental department. Pretty much everything you'd expect in a supermarket -- and, given the size of our town, I think we're lucky to have them here. What really impresses me about Ray's, however, is the people. They're consistently friendly and helpful, and in twelve years I can't recall a bad interaction with anyone there. Store management bends over backwards to help out any non-profit that comes calling, donating goods for all kinds of events and activities. You'll often find Girl Scouts selling cookies, Key Club kids collecting donations for the food pantry, or sports teams raising money at the front door. Ray's Food Place is a real asset to our community in many ways, and I'm happy to be a customer and support them as they support Cloverdale. read more

Ray's is the only supermarket in town. It's so bad that we regularly drive to Big John in Healdsburg. Ray's is not just overpriced but attention needs to be payed to expiration dates. The vegetables are second quality at full price and due to a lack of customers never really fresh. Just the other day I grabbed a bag of mini bell peppers. Super expensive at $6.99. Coming home I noticed half of them were rotten. I feel sorry for the people that have to work there but stay away from that store. read more
