I have brought my car twice. One for a regular oil change and the second for a 60,000 mile inspection. I needing to replace parts and had an oil leak that covered one of my spark plugs. They are reasonably priced and trustworthy. I found my permanent mechanic. read more

This place is so honest I'm so happy I stumbled upon it. During my request for quote process for my car issues, I had other shops quoting me an arm and a leg. But then I stumbled upon this place and they gave me a quote that was a handful of grands less than everyone else. They were honest AND they fixed my issue!! And during the process of fixing my car, they were texting me, showing me proof of issues occurring!! Damaged parts!! Negative side effects of my issues. So that way I knew the charges were real. Listen y'all, this place is golden. Very solid shout out to my boy Jose. You saved my car and my bank account. YOU DA BEST GUYS. So so real guys. read more

I used to come here to bring my 6 vehicles for over 10 years but when management/ownership changed everything is different. It's no more customer oriented. The new manager did not take responsibility for their mistake. Beware. read more

I met Ray over 20 yrs ago via a coworker's recommendation and I trusted him. He was my mechanic for years. When I was young and single he really helped me out with my cars and he was always fair and consistent. I got to know him and the mechanics who worked for him fairly well. He went above and beyond. I remember once having an issue with my car and can't remember if it was a weekend or his shop was closed but I called him all stressed out. Instead of blowing me off, telling me to return the next business day, he asked me to drop my car off at his house and he'd look at it. He's a Christian and appreciated those times he'd preach to me about God too. I'm married now and don't take my cars to Ray as often as before (husband handles most of the maintenance) but appreciated Ray's hard work and have referred family members and a few friends to him many a time. Ray's a good man and takes pride in his shop. If you need a reliable mechanic, he's your guy. read more

Ray is awesome!!!!! I took my car here after National City Honda wanted to charge me 4000 to change my engine harness because the emissions light was on. They also said I needed a new transmission so basically my car was worthless. I took it to Ray. He took it to a specialist and got the right diagnostic on my transmission fixed my car for a resonable cost with great turn around. Honest and keeped me updated. Today I got a follow up call after a week to see how everything is going. Awesome and nice guy for really guaranteeing his shops work. I could not be happier. read more

I've taken all my vehicles to Ray's for several years now. Service is always fast and reliable, and they are very honest, which his hard to find in a repair shop. I recommend them to friends and family as well, who've also ended up becoming long term customers. read more

Jose and the rest of the team were incredibly professional and helpful with all of my car troubles. Recommend them 100%

By far the most reliable vehicle repair and maintenance shop! Jose and his team of engineers resolved a most complex & difficult electo-mechanic problem. They were able to create a work around solution, bypassing the seat control circuitry, which kept me mobile while he diligently sought replacement parts. Those exact matching parts turned out to be impossible to obtain. So today he and team designed and engineered a unique solution using the existing partially working controls and added an additional control to give full functionality. They saved me a ton of money this way (a new replacement part was over $450 alone). As such the total value of the repair was nearly $700 yet their solution was a fraction of that. All performed with a genuine friendly ness, pride and excellence unmatched in the engineering profession. Truly creative with the customer satisfaction at the heart of their efforts. I am very pleased and recommend Rays Car Care above all for any repair or maintenance ! David L - customer for over 13 years. read more

It's shops like these that give the like a bad reputation. I believe Rays Car Care is the WORST car repair shop and I HIGHLY advise against going here for the following reasons: 1) It seems as if they lie try to manipulate people into making unnecessary and expensive repairs. See number 3 for further details. 2) They perform services on your vehicle without prior authorization. See number 3 for further details. 3) They hold your car hostage until you pay for the services that you do not authorize. A friend recently took a vehicle here to have the clutch repaired; it was replaced but he had to take it back a few months later to have it looked at again. After Ray called to confirm that the clutch needed more repair, our friend gave him the okay to work on it. The next day, he received another call from Ray stating that it wasn't the clutch after all but the transmission. Our friend declined the transmission repair and asked for the car back. In response, Ray stated that he would have to charge a fee to have the transmission put back in. The problem with this is that Ray was never authorized to remove the transmission in the first place. - He called after the fact. My friend didn't even authorize the diagnostic! It was taken in specifically for a clutch repair. Ray refused to give the vehicle back until he received payment. After three weeks of trying to reason with him, our friend finally went and just demanded it. On top of trying to charge to put the transmission back in, he tried to finagle other bogus charges such as storage fees although the car was held against his will and parked in a lot that wasn't even owned by Ray. My friend eventually got the vehicle back without the transmission put back in... Ray had his mechanics put it in the back of a SUV and it was taken to another mechanic. 4) I believe they use cheap parts and although they come with warranty, Ray will charge you over and over again for labor. We had the radiator for one of our vehicles replaced by Ray for a total of three times before we took it somewhere else. 5) It seems as if the job is never done right the first time. 6) It seems as if they are dishonest and unprofessional. Why we kept going back? Because initially, we thought he was cheaper than most (in the long run, he's more expensive), and because we had to go back due to faulty repairs. We will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as the State Bureau of Automotive Repair to file a formal complaint. Shame on you, Ray. read more

I came here before to get our breaks done because it was way cheaper than pep boys or any of the other places near where I live. They did great work! My starter in my car was starting to go out, so again I decided to come back and get my work done here. Again they did good work and it wasn't that expensive. I also decided to get my oil change done on my other car while I was here. This place is the best kept secret around as far as auto mechanic s go. Rays Car Care - My car getting an oil change at Ray's. - Auto Repair Near Me - Chula Vista, California

My car needed the clutch to be repaired as it had sunk to the floor with no pressure to the pedal at all. Went in to rays to hopefully get the master and slave cylinder replaced, charged me about 500 bucks and within a month I begin having braking issues, this place has really gone down hill ever since ray has left and I do not trust leaving my car in their care any longer as I'm finding a new mechanic. It's as if they bled the breaks only and didnt do sht but maybe do a slight bleed on the slave charging me 500 as if they had replaced the cylinders read more

The Traverse Traction Control ABS sensor turned which made the car decrease in speed when driving up hills. We took it in, found out the sensor light was corroded with battery liquid spilling. I don't write bad reviews for the heck of it. I had a leak down the bottom center of my transmission. I wanted to get an opinion from a few different auto shops, including general car care and transmission specialist mechanics. I was referred to Ray's Car Care, so I called him and explained I had a leak on the bottom of my transmission. He told me to go to the shop so he can check it out. I showed up that same day and after waiting for not too long, I was told his transmission mechanic needs to look at it, who only works weekdays. So I come in on a weekday... His mechanic lifts the car and shows me the leak. May I remind you, I was well aware of the origin of the leak, which is why I took it to the shop in the first place. So I ask him what he thinks it could be (already knowing the best thing to do is a transmission overhaul), and he says, "I'll give you an estimate". I said, "an estimate for what exactly?" He said, "for the repairs." I said, "for what repairs?" "To dismantle your transmission..", he says. I explained, "That would not be a repair; how are you trying to give me an estimate on something you haven't even told me what needs to be done?" Then he says, "To replace the gasket, I'll call you." If I'm going to pay for the labor to dismantle my transmission, I'd want everything replaced (gaskets, bearings, seals/O-rings, etc.), which is what is recommended for a high mileage Acura. Also, he was quite solid on the price of $1,300, without explaining the potential of needing to replace more consumables, upon disassembly of the transmission. I value the mechanic who shares the "whole" of the problem and not a piece of it just because he/she is trying to squeeze whatever amount they think you can afford. I'd hate to pay someone for half the price on a halfway done job. Some people think they are getting a sweeter deal for half the price, when really it's half the job. DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE. read more

I needed to find another garage (a little closer to home) and this is a nice addition to my standard mechanic. Fast. Diligent. Ethical. VERY thorough - he kept the car an extra morning to make sure that we didn't have any 'cold morning cold-start' issues. EXCELLENT communications skills and follow-through. This is one of my biggest beefs with a lot of garages - I don't like being left in the dark (I hope you other guys are reading this....). Did I mention that his prices are extremely reasonable? I think I just did... read more

I dropped off my 2010 Titan Feb 28 th to have the 4 WD fixed. And the ventilation wasn't working. I was called Mar 2 and told my truck was ready. Left it again, I explain I was going on vacation mat 23 and needed my truck. I was promised again I would have my truck. Here it is APRIL 9 and the truck is still with the "Electrician " . 6 weeks and I have very little confidence left in this shop. Worst shop I have ever used. Rays Car Care - Seating area - Auto Repair Near Me - Chula Vista, California

My car went in for an overheating issue, they did a great job fixing that. They said one of my gaskets was leaking, and I said go ahead and fix it, decent price. The day I got my car back the check engine light came on and my car wasn't shifting correctly. The check engine light was for my cam shaft sensor, I called rays a day later and they replaced the cam shaft sensor and said my car was good to go. My check engine light came back on and my car was running weird and it still wasn't shifting correctly on the highway. (My car wouldn't go past 50MPH without my rpm's being at 7 and I have never had that issue having my car for 2 years) I took it to a different mechanic because it was weird that my car was having all of these issues after getting an overheating issue fixed. The mechanic said that my turbo was cracked, and my cam shaft sensors were bad and some other issues. I find it extremely weird that after my car got fixed for a simple issue that a bunch of things start going wrong. read more

Ray has been nothing but helpful from day one. I walked in there with my beautiful new (to me) car on a tow truck. I had this vehicle for less than one year when the engine exploded internally. Back story: There were numerous complaints and known errors that the vehicle was sold to me with of which I was never informed until AFTER the problems presented themselves again. After speaking with the dealer it was decided that I would need to pay a very large sum out of pocket to fix what they knew was wrong and purposely failed to inform me of. I paid a modified version of their original request and I assumed my car would be fixed. Three or so months later and my car dies on the freeway. My engine had exploded internally as the "fix" the dealer had done was more of a stopgap. Now enters Ray. I took my car to Ray and have never looked back since. They gave me a new engine at a phenomenal cost and have covered any tuneups or tweaks since. I trust Ray wholeheartedly when it comes to my car and go to him exclusively for any engine woes. I have never had a mechanic that trusted and that I liked as much as Ray. read more

Car had a problem with a check engine light. Took it into Ray they had fixed the problem. Check engine light was off. Was running great but light came back on. Dropped car off again. They had my car almost a week and had to have another person diagnose the vehicle to see why the engine light kept coming back on. End result they found the problem, but advised me to take it to the dealer to see if it can be fixed through warranty since it was mechanical. If it's not covered they would gladly fix the problem. I like how honest they are and not trying to get over on people and take money. read more

Ray is a good guy, he's honest and won't try to screw you over. His place is not much to look at and its hard to find parking on his busy days but I guess that's why his prices are so good. Ray is super friendly and nice, he and his employees are professional and fair. I needed a new horn (VW Golf GTI) and actually brought a part with me. Wrong part and wrong problem, it was actually an electrical issue AND a new horn. TWO horns, for that car. Ray and his mechanics took the time to trace (for free!!!) my electrical system, locate and explain the problem, suggest possible solutions and come up with a very reasonable, cost-efficient answer to my issue. They dedicated time to me even though they were busy, and I'm extremely happy with their service, Thank you for restoring my faith in mechanics, Ray! read more

This shop helped me out big time last weekend not only are they open late on Saturdays when a lot of other shops close early but they are extremely efficient and very affordable. I needed my radiator replaced and every other shop said I would have to come back on Monday to get any repairs done. When I called Rays Auto Care not only was a greeted with a welcoming response but he said he could help with no problem and that repairs would be done on the same day. Great job! I'll definitely go back. My son's 2000 Eclipse was leaking like a sieve, and I was told by another mechanic that it would need front & rear engine seals. Ray put it up & determined it only needed the front (HUGE savings), but recommended other repairs that I agreed were LONG overdue & would cost less while the front cover was off (timing belt, water pump, and cam seals). I had similar work done to another of my cars by another mechanic & I bet I saved 25-30% with Ray. He also told me that the distributor shaft seal was leaking "a very little bit", but recommended not to spend the money - huh?!? - a mechanic recommending NOT to do work?
