I met Ray over 20 yrs ago via a coworker's recommendation and I trusted him. He was my mechanic for years. When I was young and single he really helped me out with my cars and he was always fair and consistent. I got to know him and the mechanics who worked for him fairly well. He went above and beyond. I remember once having an issue with my car and can't remember if it was a weekend or his shop was closed but I called him all stressed out. Instead of blowing me off, telling me to return the next business day, he asked me to drop my car off at his house and he'd look at it. By far the most reliable vehicle repair and maintenance shop! Jose and his team of engineers resolved a most complex & difficult electo-mechanic problem. They were able to create a work around solution, bypassing the seat control circuitry, which kept me mobile while he diligently sought replacement parts. So today he and team designed and engineered a unique solution using the existing partially working controls and added an additional control to give full functionality. It's shops like these that give the like a bad reputation. I believe Rays Car Care is the WORST car repair shop and I HIGHLY advise against going here for the following reasons: 1) It seems as if they lie try to manipulate people into making unnecessary and expensive repairs. See number 3 for further details. 2) They perform services on your vehicle without prior authorization. See number 3 for further details. 3) They hold your car hostage until you pay for the services that you do not authorize. A friend recently took a vehicle here to have the clutch repaired; it was replaced but he had to take it back a few months later to have it looked at again. After Ray called to confirm that the clutch needed more repair, our friend gave him the okay to work on it. The next day, he received another call from Ray stating that it wasn't the clutch after all but the transmission. Our friend declined the transmission repair and asked for the car back. In response, Ray stated that he would have to charge a fee to have the transmission put back in. The problem with this is that Ray was never authorized to remove the transmission in the first place. - He called after the fact. My friend didn't even authorize the diagnostic! It was taken in specifically for a clutch repair. Ray refused to give the vehicle back until he received payment. After three weeks of trying to reason with him, our friend finally went and just demanded it. On top of trying to charge to put the transmission back in, he tried to finagle other bogus charges such as storage fees although the car was held against his will and parked in a lot that wasn't even owned by Ray. My friend eventually got the vehicle back without the transmission put back in... Ray had his mechanics put it in the back of a SUV and it was taken to another mechanic. 4) I believe they use cheap parts and although they come with warranty, Ray will charge you over and over again for labor. We had the radiator for one of our vehicles replaced by Ray for a total of three times before we took it somewhere else. 5) It seems as if the job is never done right the first time. 6) It seems as if they are dishonest and unprofessional. Why we kept going back? Because initially, we thought he was cheaper than most (in the long run, he's more expensive), and because we had to go back due to faulty repairs. We will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as the State Bureau of Automotive Repair to file a formal complaint. Shame on you, Ray. read more

My car needed the clutch to be repaired as it had sunk to the floor with no pressure to the pedal at all. Went in to rays to hopefully get the master and slave cylinder replaced, charged me about 500 bucks and within a month I begin having braking issues, this place has really gone down hill ever since ray has left and I do not trust leaving my car in their care any longer as I'm finding a new mechanic. They had my car almost a week and had to have another person diagnose the vehicle to see why the engine light kept coming back on. End result they found the problem, but advised me to take it to the dealer to see if it can be fixed through warranty since it was mechanical. If it's not covered they would gladly fix the problem. I don't write bad reviews for the heck of it. I had a leak down the bottom center of my transmission. I wanted to get an opinion from a few different auto shops, including general car care and transmission specialist mechanics. I was referred to Ray's Car Care, so I called him and explained I had a leak on the bottom of my transmission. He told me to go to the shop so he can check it out. I showed up that same day and after waiting for not too long, I was told his transmission mechanic needs to look at it, who only works weekdays. So I come in on a weekday... His mechanic lifts the car and shows me the leak. May I remind you, I was well aware of the origin of the leak, which is why I took it to the shop in the first place. So I ask him what he thinks it could be (already knowing the best thing to do is a transmission overhaul), and he says, "I'll give you an estimate". I said, "an estimate for what exactly?" He said, "for the repairs." I said, "for what repairs?" "To dismantle your transmission..", he says. I explained, "That would not be a repair; how are you trying to give me an estimate on something you haven't even told me what needs to be done?" Then he says, "To replace the gasket, I'll call you." If I'm going to pay for the labor to dismantle my transmission, I'd want everything replaced (gaskets, bearings, seals/O-rings, etc.), which is what is recommended for a high mileage Acura. Also, he was quite solid on the price of $1,300, without explaining the potential of needing to replace more consumables, upon disassembly of the transmission. I value the mechanic who shares the "whole" of the problem and not a piece of it just because he/she is trying to squeeze whatever amount they think you can afford. I'd hate to pay someone for half the price on a halfway done job. Some people think they are getting a sweeter deal for half the price, when really it's half the job. I dropped off my 2010 Titan Feb 28 th to have the 4 WD fixed. And the ventilation wasn't working. I was called Mar 2 and told my truck was ready. I went to pick it up the truck and was told the part to fix the ventilation was not in yet. The part would be in Tuesday. Tuesday came I went to pick up truck and 4WD lights on dash still on. Left it again, I explain I was going on vacation mat 23 and needed my truck. I was promised again I would have my truck. My car went in for an overheating issue, they did a great job fixing that. They said one of my gaskets was leaking, and I said go ahead and fix it, decent price. The day I got my car back the check engine light came on and my car wasn't shifting correctly. The check engine light was for my cam shaft sensor, I called rays a day later and they replaced the cam shaft sensor and said my car was good to go. My check engine light came back on and my car was running weird and it still wasn't shifting correctly on the highway. (My car wouldn't go past 50MPH without my rpm's being at 7 and I have never had that issue having my car for 2 years) I took it to a different mechanic because it was weird that my car was having all of these issues after getting an overheating issue fixed. The mechanic said that my turbo was cracked, and my cam shaft sensors were bad and some other issues. I find it extremely weird that after my car got fixed for a simple issue that a bunch of things start going wrong. read more

Ray has been nothing but helpful from day one. I walked in there with my beautiful new (to me) car on a tow truck. I had this vehicle for less than one year when the engine exploded internally. Back story: There were numerous complaints and known errors that the vehicle was sold to me with of which I was never informed until AFTER the problems presented themselves again. After speaking with the dealer it was decided that I would need to pay a very large sum out of pocket to fix what they knew was wrong and purposely failed to inform me of. This shop helped me out big time last weekend not only are they open late on Saturdays when a lot of other shops close early but they are extremely efficient and very affordable. I needed my radiator replaced and every other shop said I would have to come back on Monday to get any repairs done. When I called Rays Auto Care not only was a greeted with a welcoming response but he said he could help with no problem and that repairs would be done on the same day.
