Excellent; Availability. It was my birthday... It was a Saturday. And I, was basically a walkin out of state new client. Call the shop around 2:20pm. asked about availability.. Was told, can you be here by 3pm.? Didn't need a Summer cut and shave.. but being winter time in the Rockies i.ve let my hair grow on purpose. My beard was trimmed nice and proper looking. I have been using Ray's barber shop since about 1974, when I was in vet school at CSU, I lived just across Prospect to the north, and was able to walk over over to the shop from there. I have to be honest. I didn't expect much when I walked in. I walked in being tired of all the stupid chains in Fort Collins - including Great Clips, Cost Cutters, Sport Clips, etc. I have been a Fort Collins resident for almost 10 years and somehow never even looked up at Ray's in Fort Collins. As I walked in, it has the distinct feel of a vintage barber shop. This was something I missed for such a long time since I moved from India. There are two guys, who look up to you with a smile, greet you and get you seated. It took me about 15 mins to get in, it being a saturday, meaning no appointments, and walk-ins only. You see a VCR (a surprising find - anywhere - in 2019) , a tape recorder playing the radio and a rustic feel to the place. I get called up when it's my turn, this person (Ray himself) greets me with a genuine smile, gets me all setup and patiently listens to what I need. I hate the fact that the others ask you the clip numbers you'd like and cut your hair like they mow their lawn. He takes his time, cuts my hair with utmost care and precision, makes sure I'm comfortable and ends it with a neck and shoulder massage. Trust me when I tell you this folks, I'm blown away. I will return here whenever I need a haircut. Ray is truly amazing. They are as authentic as they come. Ray's been here in this spot for 46 years in a time when there's a salon or a chain in every corner. He did a splendid job. The only drawback is they accept only cash. But hey, with a Chase bank right around the corner, it isn't too much trouble. The hair cut costs you a fixed $22. It's well worth your time and money. Ive gone to 3 of the chain Hair cutters in Fort Collins. Mostly college Students. the first place the hair cutter, had ear bud,s on listning to music.. second place, i waited 20 min. then didnt get the cut i wanted.. 3 rd place sports clips. The worst of them all. iam 65, thinning hair, they had no clue how to cut it,,, Then i found Ray:s ive been there 4 times now. they do a great Job. i leave happy everyTime. yes they are on the high side but worth every penny, THEY ONLY TAKE CASH.. why pay those high Credit card fee,s to processes. pretty smart if you ask me... its 11,13.2021 iam on my way there now.. its sat. I went to visit my parents with no intention of going anywhere with them. We were just going to chill in front of the T.V. Out of the blue, my 92 year-old father says, "I want a haircut." So what's a dutiful daughter to do? Start looking for a shop that would take a last-minute request, of course! I called Ray's and they said sure, come on down. My dad has only had a flattop since his days in Korea and is particilar about his cut. In the end, dad was pleased. He managed to say, "It'll do" which means the cut was good! read more

I went to Ray's today for the first time. Scheduling: First and foremost, you need to make an appointment, except for Saturday. I called late last week for an appointment on Tuesday. You have to plan ahead but it's nice to walk in and sit right down at the chair. Cost: They charge $20 for a regular cut. One of the higher prices for a barber shop in town. I imagine they only take cash like most barber shops. Cut: Ray cut my hair. He was efficient with a light touch. He took his time and did a great job. Good conversation and very friendly, a welcoming experience. Straight razor neck shave and tonic followed by a nice long shoulder massage. Vibe: Good old school barber shop. Old country playing on the am radio. Ray said he's been in this spot for 41 years! Overall: Plan ahead a little to make an appointment, it'll pay off with a no hassle quality haircut. I'd give them a 5 star rating if the price was a little lower. Update: the haircut didn't really hold up after a couple days. It was uneven in a couple places on top. The fade was strong still. Had to bump them to a 3 star due to that. read more

Ray has given me great haircuts before but this time I got the "other" guy (big mistake- only go to Ray if going there). I asked for a haircut with 3 inches on top and an inch less on the sides. He left me with almost an inch of hair on top, missed a couple of spots (I had to go back in to get them fixed) and he forgot to shave my neck in back. He out of nowhere puts gel in my hair and starts to blow dry a half inch crewcut? I have never been to a barbershop where they have done that. I am headed to find another barbershop today to fix this uneven cut. Complete waste of $20 and the scar I wanted to covered by hair won't be for the rest of the summer- thanks a lot. The best part was his poor attitude- 1 star is too high a rating- I could have cut my own hair just as good and saved the $20 and the headache. read more

Google has the hours of operation wrong. Appointments only Tue-Fri 8a to 5:30p. Walk In's only on Sat 7a-4p. This shop is consistently busy, because they provide courteous service at reasonable prices. Arrive early on Saturday to avoid the wait. read more
