In a nutshell, it's one of the worst libraries I've ever been to, I'm afraid.
If you are stuck with this as your local library, you should note that if you go to any LION system library, they will add you so long as you show them your Montville library card. Then, you will be able to request books from any of their libraries, pick up at any that are convenient (such as Norwich), and drop off at any of them.
Pros
- small, cute, historic building
- they're okay with you drinking a coffee while you read at one of the tables
- they seem to carry several of the NYT Bestsellers in fiction
- they will send a weekly e-mail with your account info, any charges due, etc.
Cons
- limited hours, and closed on Sunday, Monday, & Friday
- limited selection
- short checkout window -- just two weeks max
- some sections seem significantly slanted; for example, their one very short shelf on politics consists entirely of Ann Coulter and Mitt Romney books, which is great if you want to read about them but not so great if you want any other perspective
- staff politeness & friendliness can be hit or miss
- not connected to the LION library system
- they will try to insist you use the Connecticut interlibrary loan system if you want to read any book they don't have, which requires you to pick up & drop back off at their location & takes at least a week for the book to arrive. read more
