They demonstrate everything clearly and explain each skill thoroughly, citing real-world examples based on their own experience as divers and active members of the diving community. Rick is a wealth of knowledge (on diving, dive skills, dive gear, you name it!) And provided all of us with excellent instruction as well as feedback. Dawn offers useful, alternate explanations--in addition to one-on-one reinforcement for students who need more time or assistance in fully understanding and mastering a skill. They don't gloss over anything, and they spend as much time as the group needs in order for each student to feel comfortable, which I really appreciate. Having the two of them also allows individual students to have that valuable one-on-one time with Dawn while Rick continues his instruction, so students that need more time on a skill don't feel like they're holding up the group or feel embarrassed like they are the center of attention when the rest of the group is ready to move on. I'm already thinking about what scuba diving courses I want to take next! I highly recommend the Scuba Shop for those who are looking for more than just getting certified and "getting it over with." Rick and Dawn's scuba classes are for those who want to feel well-prepared and truly confident in their skills as a diver.

I signed up for their Open Water Course ($300) after comparing rates with other shops and reading up on the positive Google reviews. Training here from start to finish was fantastic! Training in total here is the eLearning portion, a pool day, and then open lake dives (two days over the weekend). First came the online eLearning, which you register for at the shop while paying. The course was rather intuitive yet very informative! NAUI has done a great job keeping their content comprehensive and easy for beginners to digest. Then came the pool day. We were led by Ario and taken to a small house pool for training. We did basic skills, such as swimming and treading water, and then we had more involved skills using both the snorkel and scuba equipment. Every instructor was very professional, kind, and funny, which made the training a lot less anxiety-inducing and a lot more fun. I learned a lot from this pool session - be sure to pay attention, as these are all the same skills you'll need to perform during the lake days. During our open lake dives, we went to the Scuba Ranch, a private lake open for scuba training groups. You perform all the skills from pool day in the lake, which has decent visibility, and reach around 20-30 ft underneath. The instructors were all very patient and gave helpful pointers before performing the skills, which really helped. I saw one or two fish while underneath, but overall I really enjoyed the lake day dives even though we were being tested. Plus I got my certification out of it at the end of the day! :) Again, all very lovely staff and instructors. I would highly recommend Grapevine Scuba if you're looking to get certified. Easy process from start-to-finish, fantastic folks who run the shops and trainings, and very communicative process. Thanks to this shop I had a more than awesome experience diving in Maui and will look forward to future dives!! PROS: - very communicative, friendly, and welcoming staff throughout the whole process, from registration to pool day to lake dives - well-structured trainings that are easy-to-follow and informative - competitive rates relative to other shops (fees include scuba equipment rental - need to provide your own snorkel equipment) - fun experience across the board CONS: - None! :)

From the very first class with Dean, everything changed. He is hands-down one of the best instructors I've ever worked with. He has an incredible way of teaching--calm, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in his students. He pushed us just past our comfort zones, but never to the point of being uncomfortable or unsafe. It was the perfect balance of challenge and support, and that's where real growth happens. Dean didn't just teach us skills--he helped us become better divers. Because of him, our confidence, awareness, and teamwork underwater have grown tremendously. What started as a simple refresher turned into a passion. Now, both of us are actively pursuing becoming dive professionals. That alone says everything. Looking back, it's honestly wild to think how one decision in June turned into an entire new direction in our lives. What a journey it's been already--and we're just getting started. If you're considering training, whether you're brand new or looking to advance, High Tide Scuba and Dean are the real deal. We're beyond grateful, and we can't wait to see where this adventure takes us next.

High Tide is a one stop shop for everyone from beginner to advanced offering classes, certification, dive trips and equipment. But most important is the personal investment they make in the customers they serve. I couldn't have picked a better place to do my open water certification. I had "issues" during my pool trining and lake dives and almost gave up, but they didn't give up on me. They worked with me until I was confident that I could master my underwater environment. Now I'm looking forward to learning and experiencing more with the amazing team at High Tide Scuba!
