Pros: - I prefer aerial sling, so it delights me that this place has sling as a priority type of aerial. - Plenty of parking. One of my major dislikes of ECTA is their extreme lack of parking, which is enough of a headache that I'm often discouraged to go. Not so here! There's a number in front of the studio, but the lot across the street is also easy parking, and crossing the small street is pretty safe because not many people go through there. - Classes are pretty nice price- I got an intro class pack for 4-for-$40, and the regular priced class is about $25/class if you buy a ton of them. They also take a year to expire! - They have enough rigs/apparatuses that there's plenty of time on the fabrics, which I enjoy. - The goal in the class is to do a short routine, which I highly prefer over just practicing fundamentals Cons: - I guess it's because they don't have a front desk room area, but I've had to stand outside in the cold several times before class because I arrived early, because the doors are literally locked during class. The reason I aim to arrive so early? - Because their lateness policy is bizarrely unforgiving. Ten minutes late = locked door, no entry. So only solution is to arrive SO early that you're inevitably locked out, in case of things like...traffic. accidents. whatever. - I was feeling mildly sick once and wasn't sure I should go in. Figured eating the cost of the $10 intro class was okay... until I saw that there was an *additional* fee for no-showing. Why isn't eating the cost of the class enough?

Or maybe you're like me, and you want a way to burn loads of calories, dance your bum off, and actually feel like returning for another workout? This is the class, friends. An intensive evening class (so there's no sweating before work), taught by the best Zumba instructor in the city. You can take my word for that, because I've made the Zumba rounds. She knows what she's doing, has a passion for Latin music/dance (so you don't need to worry that you'll suddenly have country music, or old school rock show up in the playlist), and keeps things interesting. At first, you'll probably find yourself thinking..how do I keep up? It will seem like everyone is super invested in the routines (which is kind of a good thing, as they don't notice if you're straggling along). But the key is in persistence. After a few classes, things get recognizable, and you're able to get a deeper workout with each successive class. Next thing you know, you're pretty sure you're a backup dancer for Beyoncé. And thennnn...she changes up the playlist, and the challenge begins again. But that's what we want in a workout routine--a challenge--right? The great thing here, is that she sticks to dance...none of that crazy aerobic, choppy, robotic stuff. That being said, you will get a very good workout. It will make you want to return. The front desk guy told me that after one class, I'd be hooked. He was right. (He was also right when he explained that the monthly pass was a much better deal than the drop-in rate).

You leave feeling accomplished after a thorough workout while dancing to great songs. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came here. It was a bit confusing trying to find the studio. When you enter from street level, you have to go downstairs towards the Underground Dance Studio. You can either dance barefoot or with shoes (wish they could make a rule about which one because my feet always get dirty). The class starts off with some warm up dances and then moves through different types of styles of dancing with each song change. You get to express yourself however you want to. You don't have to do every single move the same way and they encourage movement around the floor. Thankfully there are a bunch of fans around the room because by the 3rd song I'm always sweating. There are no official breaks so step off the dance floor and get water as necessary. Class ends with some stretching and warm cloths with some sort of essential oil. I can't wait til the next class!

I figured I would just try this place out since it was quite close to my home and it had good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised at how cheerful and upbeat all the instructors are (I tried Zumba/Hiphop and More than Dance classes and probably have been in classes with 5 different instructors (depending on the day/time you choose to go). What I can say is that all the instructors are have their own styles but are definitely wonderful and will keep you happily dancing. What I particularly like about this place is the christmas lighting and the setting that makes you not feel so self-conscious about what you are doing wrong or how terrible of a dancer you may think you are. I admit that I'm not a naturally good dancer and I have a good time everytime I go there. There are, of course, some people there who can dance like rock stars and look really cool when they dance. However, the instructors there are very encouraging and provide guidance what you can do as a beginner, intermediate or advanced dancers, so you can really just do things at your own level and not care so much about others. It definitely feels liberating to just be able to dance your own style, at your own pace/level, and nobody is judging you on how you look or how weird you dance :). After the package ran out, I ended up signing up for more classes and still go there whenever I find some free time.

I dance bachata, salsa, meringue, cumbia and tango. i wanted to meet people so I joined as a single person for a group of lessons. while dancing with a member he grabbed me roughly and shoved me into "place" where he thougut i should be positioned for the song, then yanked me again very roughly. when I approached the teacher about this behavior she completely and totally ignored my concern about THE ASSAULT I EXPERIENCED and she said I need to move to the beginner area IMMEDIATELY in the middle of class! it was humiliating. before this she was giving me so many minor corrections and no one else. she also did not enforce partner rotation which leads to better learning. I sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes before I could safely drive home. i have not been to any studios since this traumatic event. i was the only plus size in the group.

Reinier has great energy (even on Zoom) and the lesson was very easy to follow and good exercise (I didn't expect to sweat at home!). Reinier is a handsome cuban man with good rhythm. He chose fun and upbeat music, too. The many dance moves we learned were very practical (I recognize them from casual salsa nights I've attended in the past - without any lessons). I liked how he went over each move and we practiced at just the right pace -- not too fast or too slow, too challenging or too boring. Even though I had missed the first salsa class, Reinier did a recap at the beginning and it was easy for me to jump right in! I feel like I learned more in this one class than all the casual salsa nights (which usually start with a free lesson) that I've attended before. I'm very excited about attending the next class. Come dance the night away with us! What a cool place to learn a little bit of Salsa and dance till…read morethe AM's. I've only been here on Saturdays for their Social Dance. It's always a good time. They teach a little 1 hour lesson from 8:30 to 9:30 and then open up the dance floor until 2 AM. You can learn some basic steps to get your started but don't expect to know Salsa after one mini lesson. :) As a follow, it was enough to just have a good time that night. The later you come, the more veteran and experienced dancers you'll meet. Many beginners come dance for the first hour or so and then leave. On Saturdays, the Bachata room is also open down the hall. A much smaller room but that's enough. The entrance fee of $20 gets you into both rooms. (Intro lesson is $5 extra). It's great being able to go back & forth between the rooms. There is a bar that you can buy drinks. You are allowed to bring your own water bottles but you have to leave it up at the front entrance because they don't allow you to bring your own bottles in due to the bar. Sometimes they even have performances from dance groups on Saturday nights. They also have practice sessions on weeknights that you can join and check out. With what little dance experience I've had over the last 2 months, Century definitely feels like "the place to be" if you want to dance the night away. Because of that though, Saturday Socials feels more like a show/a place to show off rather than a place to practice so just be prepared for that kind of atmosphere. Parking can be difficult since it's Cap Hill. Most people park at the parking garage down the street. **I'm not going to fault Century for this but this is something for women to take note of - not all men here are as respectful as you'd want them to be. Watch out for their hands and unwanted advances. Sometimes you really have to set your boundaries clearly because some people will def. take advantage of a friendly dancer.**
