I went to several local boat shops close to me and rather than work on my current engines, every shop wanted to "sell" me new motors to the tune of $35,000 to $50,000 without even looking at what I had. Even though I live 80 miles away, I called Advanced Marine, told them what I had and they said "no problem, we can take a look at it for you." (Refreshing)... When I showed up with my boat, I fully expected to drop it off and let them look at it when they had a chance, instead David (the owner) said "back it in here." He and his son Derek got right to work as I stood there in amazement. They were fast and very thorough checking this and that. Pretty soon they had both of my motors in the test tank, RUNNING with the laptop hooked up! Both motors fully serviced, running, dyno'd, and computer printouts for the motors for my records. Since that time I have owned several boats and have dealt with different brokers, and what I found was that a lot of brokers were not too forth coming with detailed help when it came to purchasing a boat. A few years back I reached out to JR and wanted to purchase a 2008 Formula 350 SS. I was ready to buy it when JR told me I needed to do my due diligence and have the boat surveyed and checked out to see if it had any issues, He gave me names of Surveyors and Mechanics that he trusted and valued. After reviewing both the boat and engines surveys, and with the boat having some issues just like all used boat. JR was very helpful with the negotiations making sure a fair selling price was agreed by both seller and buyer covering any repairs that were safety matters and needed to be addressed. My wife, who doesn't trust a sole, looks out for me because, as she says I look through rose colored glasses, and she put JR to the test, and JR knew that if my wife didn't trust him, she would put him through the wringer. When my wife and I were ready to step up to a bigger boat, JR was the first one I called. He explained to me in detail how bigger boats require more attention than little boats and wanted us to be aware of that. He educated me on what to look for and steered me away from what he felt were not quality boats. 6 months ago, I stepped up to a 45' boat and JR was there for us every step of the way. We looked at many boats, and he wouldn't let us settle for just anything. Again, he helped us with the negotiations to make sure we purchased it at a good price. Being a girl who doesn't know much about motors or boats etc, etc I was a little stressed about having our boats serviced for the upcoming summer season. No idea of where to go or what the heck "There is something wrong with that one so tell 'em to fix it" even means! Thanks hunny. Sheesh. I was beside myself and just picked a shop and hoped for the best! Eek! I called Amber marine and right away I was overwhelmed by how helpful whoever I spoke to on the phone was (I'm sorry I totally Forget his name...?) he told me how much everything generally be and since one motor possibly had an issue just told me to come in right away. He praised me for starting early before the season was here which is always nice to hear ! The little things... I felt like I was safe here and maybe this wasn't so hard. Guard still up and acting like I knew all about this kinda thing I had my boys bring the boats mid afternoon and told the shop I'd be in the following morning for an estimate and word on everything. Even my boys mentioned how friendly they were when they dropped them off which is odd for them to mention! The shop also commented on how polite my boys are- again nice to hear! When I touched base the next morning I didn't call I went in and they already had everything written up for me and had diagnosed the issue with the one boat and had the repair and parts cost all ready for me to review. Nothing was overpriced whatsoever and by this time I had called a shop or three to compare pricing and was ready to throw them at them when it came up but didn't have to because Amber Marine beat them all right out the gate! The repair was extremely affordable and the time estimate was on point. I was impressed and nervous that it was all too good to be true, Lol! But to late to turn back now! Do it! And I did! So happy I did! Everything turned out amazing and it was all done on time and not for a penny more than the estimate was for! Got them home and when they hit the water I held my breathe so long I thought I might pass out! Please work. They did and they BOTH ran perfectly and everyone was happy and I could breathe again! Wooo hooo! No one at home blinked an eye at how well I handled that but that's only because they Expect it from me, lol. I decided. Well he did ask "Hunny what was the name of the shop you used again?" AMBER MARINE, AMBER MARINE. Rick represented the seller of the yacht I was interested in... From the first meetup at the boat all the way through the final acceptance and sale, Rick acted as if he was not only representing his client with a sale, but also carefully navigated the relationship between myself and the seller throughout the process. I don't know all the ins and outs of the Agreement/Acceptance paperwork, but Rick made the entire process simple through constant digital paperwork updates and clear explanations of each step in the standard processing. Rick joined us for the Survey, Sea Trial and Haul/Re-Launch day. He made sure to skillfully manage the negotiation process between the seller and myself based on our findings throughout that day of discovery.
