Leonard was all dressed up and I thought, okay let's do this.....the area at the base has a small parking lot and a grassy hill leading up to the Mississippi trail/Levy. It would make for a fun picnic spot or in my case a photo shoot. There's something lovely about a bridge, how it connects two sides, in this case I used it to represent crossing over towards the future. Adventure awaits. The photos came out great and I posted my ultimate fav, which was completely in expected as Leonard jumped for joy. There's a nice railing that allows you to get low, so that your subject and bridge are unobstructed by the base or the ugly bits(i.e. Weeds or tied up barges) I'll be back for sure.....and I'll bring a blankie and a sandwich.

As a Westbanker, it pains me to say that the Eastbank Bridge Park is much nicer than it's Westbank…read moresister. The Eastbank Park has a few baseball diamonds that have completely turfed infields. They spent some money for these kids! There are a couple of batting cages, a full court basketball court, a walking track, playground for the kiddos and a remote-control car track. I almost want to go buy a remote-control car to play. The park also has a really nice memorial to the George Prince Ferry disaster of 1976, so you get a little history lesson too. The biggest problem with the park is that it is F'n loud with all the cars going past constantly.

Of all the places in all of the areas surrounding New Orleans, you might be wondering how I ended…read moreup here. I'm wondering that myself. This is kind of a strange park. First of all, to get here you have to drive down a shell road, and if you don't have a truck you can pretty much forget it because the shell road has a lot of potholes and dips and I'm not sure a regular car could handle it. Then you have to drive under a bridge and, again, if you don't have a truck you're in bad shape because the under part of the bridge fills with water and doesn't drain. Maybe there are others ways to get here, but that's how I got here. The park itself is okay, It's right on the lake, but it's kind of that funky part of the lake in NORCO that no one really visits. It kind of smells like dead fish and there are trucks that drive up and dump broken cement over there. I'm not exaggerating. There are gazebos if you want to go out there and have a picnic, there's playground equipment for kids and there are picnic tables. There's also a nature trail that actually looked pretty decent, but I didn't go exploring. The park has only been around for about 12 years and it's not terrible. I'm always happy to see something done with empty space and it's nice that families have a place to go on nice days.

Much of my family is from the River…read moreParishes so I grew up walking on, skating on and just hanging out up on the levee-- as it is directly across the street from my family members homes. Looking at the river and seeing wildlife. Depending on how high the river is cresting you may see more wildlife. The coolest thing about this trail is that over the years it's been improved with a paved roadway which makes it great for cycling long distances along the river. I live uptown and though I haven't braved the entirety of the trail, if I found the energy, I could ride my bike from uptown to Destrehan to go visit my grandma's house...about 20 miles one way. One of these days I'll get it together and take the ride. The Levee is the barrier between the River and the towns on the other side...it's flood protection and also a recreational space. We love a multifunctional system.

But the store had a lot of gift shop items that I believe help maintain the house, buildings, grounds, and pay for staff. We did the tour of the big house and it was so educational. Then we went over to Miss Anne's talk and it was so educational and she interacted with all people in the group. I would like to come back with my family for them to see and listen to all of the history in the items and the stories of the owners and the enslaved. The visit was simply powerful for me to experience as I have family that were enslaved or born free to parents that were enslaved. And I have family that worked plantations in GA in the 1940s and 1950s picking cotton. So this visit really touched me.

Very peaceful and spacious park in the Metairie area. I was in the area today for some book drop…read moreoffs, so I decided to visit Lafreniere Park since the weather felt really nice. There are a lot of hills to go up and down on. Various soccer fields are available. There's also an outdoor stage for concerts and festivals, cute geese and chickens walking along the trail way, and overall a lot of nature in sight. Overall, a pretty nice park.

Initially the playground area was kinda lame. Tiny. Little kid centered with not much variety. Upon further inspection the park has a dog park, concrete walking trails and a small water play area. The water play area was great. It was tiny as well but a lot of fun for the kids on a hot day. I found their suits but had to sacrifice a shirt as a towel. Great little spot. Looks to be brand new and the first phase of development. I would expect this park to grow exponentially in the upcoming years. Great spot to burn a couple yrs.

My Dad boxed upstairs in the gym in the 50s and there used to be plays on the stage. Depending on the season, you'll see all the kid sports: football, baseball, softball, track, soccer, tennis. Plus as an old school playground it has wide open space to just run (my favorite). The playground equipment is all new and was donated by a medical conference a couple of years ago as post-K largesse. The only issue with the space is that the condo owners across the street walk their dogs in the greenspace and some forget to scoop the poop. Not cool when you have kids running around. The skating rink is now a parking lot; the boxing space is offices; they've made the place a lot safer than when I was kid...how did we climb up in the rafters of the stage. But a great space to play

I have four young children who have played sports at Jefferson Playground for…read morethe past 7 years. They have made great friendships that will last a lifetime!
