Fantastic you-pick farm!…read more I wanted to pick some sort of fruit while I was running around the countryside near Lexington. Yelp found Fahrmeier's Farm and a quick visit to their website informed me that blackberry season had just opened! Well who doesn't like blackberries? So off we go, ready to go pick some fruit on the way to the Battle of Lexington State Historic Park. Super friendly girl came out to greet us and escorted us to a row of blackberries that she said were especially delicious. She showed us how to pick them, twist not pull, and then off we were! These blackberries were the largest berries I have ever seen! A few were as long as my thumb. They were bursting with sweet juiciness. I couldn't help eating one or two during the picking process, but they all looked so good. I'm pretty sure I picked all of the best ones... lol... ok not really, but had a whole tray at the end of going down one row and back up the other side. All those berries cost less than $20 too! I think the total was like $17 and change for about 4-5 lbs at $3.99/lb. Everyone in the little market was friendly and they had a few things for sale there from their farm, fresh eggs, ginormous tomatoes (seriously, huge, like 3-4 lbs) and various other things including cold drinks. You end up with an open tray of berries in a bag that only covers half, so be careful driving with them. But I had the best time being a city gal in the country and seeing cute goats and birds flying around. I had some berries on my cereal this morning and omg so delicious - seriously the best I've ever had. My bf doesn't think I can eat all the ones I picked. Watch me.

About an hour and a half outside of Kansas City, these peaches are well worth the drive. They sell about ten different varieties of peaches, but my favorites by far are the July Prince. These juicy sweet babies will have you drooling and slurping like a fool, saying dad stuff like, "that's a damn good peach!" They sell so much more fresh farm goodness like apples, watermelon, cantaloupe, plums, nectarines, bing cherries, homegrown tomatoes, sweet corn, blackberries, blueberries and more. But, I'm not here to talk about all that - this about the peaches ladies and gentlemen, stay with me! This is the important part - the best time for peaches is end of July through August, so stop watching murder porn on Discovery+, get off your couch and in to your car to make the drive before they sell out. You're about to find out what Justin, me and so many other people already know... peaches are the bomb! I promise you'll be singing, "I got my peaches out in Waverly (Oh, yeah, shit)..." all the way home!

We spent a lot of time riding the toy tractors, fishing, mining for gold, playing with the goats, and--of course--washing our hands over and over. We also took a hayrack ride with the famous Budweiser horses, which was a real treat. There are various buildings with eateries, small museums, and interactive exhibits. I was pleasantly surprised--and happy--that they sell healthy (and not-so-healthy) kid-friendly food. The Farmstead is also incredibly affordable. Admission is only $5, and most activities and food options are very reasonably priced. The size is perfect--big enough to explore without feeling crowded, but manageable enough to see most activities in a couple of hours. Plus, it's all outdoors with live animals, which makes it extra fun. The Farmstead depicts a Kansas family farm in the early 1900s, with over 250 animals, a country schoolhouse, and plenty of hands-on activities. Highly recommend for families looking for an educational, fun, and affordable day out!

If you go right at opening, you can catch the running of the baby goats! They also have great seasonal activities like their extensive light show during the holidays, which has been added to our family traditions! They have a hay ride to a pumpkin patch in the fall and outdoor movies during the summer! Some everyday activities are extra money, but you can definitely have fun without spending more than the entrance fee! One down side is you can't bring your own food for lunch, but they have some tables outside of the area so you could still bring a lunch. Deanna Rose is definitely worth bringing your kids to!
