We went in for a class to learn how to make a pen and it was SO MUCH FUN!! In speaking with Tom he does several classes ranging from the "pen class" which is about an hour long, to beginner wood turning classes which is a 4 hour class to an intermediate class which I believe is 6 hours long etc. He is a delightful person and as I said so patient and helpful. I would definitely recommend going and taking a class from Tom and look at his gallery too he makes BEAUTIFUL things from bowls, coffee cups, wine glasses, cutting boards and wine stoppers and more!

My partner and I went to rent boards from him and check out his shop. He payed little attention to us and was passive aggressive when answering questions. We were inquiring about renting wetsuits and boards from him, so he took our credit card information and charged our card. While going through the rental process we quickly realized we did not want to rent from this guy because of his attitude and we generally just felt off. My partner simply asked him if he could refund his card because changed our minds, and the owner started yelling at him. He said that we waisted an hour of his time and yelled at us to get out of his shop and said that my partner "got in his face". He then proceeded to aggressively get in my partners face and tell us how rude we are. He slammed his shop door and told us he wasn't giving us our money back. Since then, we have spoken to people in the Newport community that have heard similar stories and the he is not a good member of the south beach community. They have urged us to leave reviews because Russel apparently has been threatening people by text/email to take down any bad reviews. Please do not go to this shop and give him business.

My daughter, son in law, and husband went on a Saturday, first week of the new year and had a…read moreblast!!! We were there for about 4 hours, going one at a time in "private lessons" with Jeff. First he has us look through the shop and select the patterns and colors we each liked. Then he works either each person individually, getting an understanding of our vision and explaining the overall process. He explains each step and talks you through it, constantly reassuring, complimenting, even celebrating how you do. He keeps checking our understanding or gently "correcting" by saying things like "great job with that, now this time, try to..." And as you move through the process, he is there every minute, every moment, every step of the way, and making sure he is helping us make our vision in glass! With each of our visions different, the pieces we made were unique. I wanted the bits of color to remain a bit of texture (like a piece I'd found in the shop), with an open hole in the ball for filling with agates, and a clear "window" for seeing the rocks inside. Jeff was amenable to leaving the open hole (which I plan to plug with a large cork) and the "clear window" worked! It was a special family activity and an experience we're sure to remember. Of course we've got the glass bowls and balls in case we need a reminder! Sure the glass molding and blowing was fun, but honestly, I can't imagine a better instructor and coach than what we experienced with Jeff!!!! Highly recommend it!!!

We had such a fun experience creating some pretty blown glass pieces together at the coast. We picked them up the following day after they cooled down overnight in their oven! You've got to book with SeaPeople…read more I loved working with Kayli at NW Women's Surf Camp - not only was I popping up and riding by the end, but I had the knowledge to safely surf. But while that have me the push to start, I was still lacking the confidence to just get out there on my own with the worry about not being good enough to take up space in the water (though I kept with it through lessons while traveling). So when SeaPeople Surf launched the totally unique progressive surf camp, I knew I had to do it. And it was EXACTLY what I needed. The film from the second class identified that in my switch to a fun board I was popping up too far back and hunched over. So I was able to start practicing that at home and then in the water. With those adjustments by the last class I was successfully riding very consistently, already getting better at turns, and successfully surfed an outside green wave after paddling the rip (thanks Billy!!). Not only was the camp a game changer and a blast, but I've now got my own wetsuit and board (with helpful advice from Kayli) and have taken the leap to paddling out on my own now.
