I have been a patient at Providence St. Peter Outpatient Orthopedic and Hand Therapy since Aug…read more2023. I was referred by my primary care doctor for relief from shoulder pain. After two months of treatment, my therapist suggested I see an orthopedist, which I did. As a result, I was given X-rays and an MRI which revealed I had a torn rotator cuff, SLAP tear, bone spurs and severe arthritis. I tried non-surgical treatment by continuing PT and an injection, but the pain persisted, so it was recommended that my shoulder be surgically repaired. I also had a frozen shoulder and my surgeon cautioned me that he would not be able to operate if the shoulder was still frozen. My therapist worked with me for two more months in an attempt to "thaw" my frozen shoulder. I went in for surgery in Jan 2024, and the surgeon was able to manipulate my shoulder and complete the surgery. The damage to my shoulder was worse than anticipated, but the surgeon was able to complete repairs. Two weeks post-surgery, I went back to PT to rehabilitate my shoulder. I am still in PT and likely will for a few more months, as I regain my mobility & strength. I have worked with several of the Physical Therapists and a PT Assistant, including Christy, Jordan, Nancy, Mark, and Jessica. The care I've received has been excellent - it is painful, but I am getting better! Shoulder surgery is a long, difficult recovery and I was told to expect it to take 6-9 months to be mostly pain-free, and a full year to restore my strength, which was complicated by a detached biceps tendon that also requires repair. Slowly but surely I'm making progress. I definitely recommend Providence St. Peter Outpatient Pediatric Therapies if you need to rehab a shoulder, knee, hand, etc.

Don't go here unless you want to go broke!!!…read more The type of care is excellent - that's not the issue. It's the cost. This location bills as hospital outpatient (hence the name) and they don't tell you that! Physical therapy is billed as a hospital visit. That means instead of getting a $25 copay you get $1000+ bill! I had a single visit billed for $1200 when my insurance says I only owe $25. What they're doing is legal but highly immoral. If you want to go to providence, go to the tumwater facility. Same organization but I hear they bill correctly.

Rest it will get better, well it got worse went back, need mri, my insurance said no and never heard back from doctors office. So one of the other surgeons that is a god there, called my insurance and said she needs mri asap. Got approved and I asked for different doctor since the office never called me back to say what the next steps were to get approval for mri.Got mri saw new surgeon at Eastside office, said tear in meniscus. Easy peasy. June 2024 had surgery, in recovery surgeon comes out, while I'm still doped up explains what had gone on and what he found, I have no clue what he had said, don't even remember leaving building. Well the knee still hurt bad went for several follow ups was told it takes a while. Got another mri. Another small tear and lots of arthritis, no one told me if u get surgery arthritis starts building up. I am in more pain then before surgery, gained 20 pounds, unable to do daily functions and activities. If I would have known this I would not have got surgery. Asked to speak to doctor about what can be done several times, they said oh he's booked up,see his PA. Well guess what his PA was to busy so they hired another PA to help out, this is in November, he tells me I need to think about going to a gym and see a psychologist, lol. I normally got 16000 steps in according to my fitbit, im very active and not overweight, really? January 2025 still not a word from surgeon, since June. Went to another orthopedic establishment and guess what I now need a partial knee replacement!!! I'm literally in tears! I can't believe thos surgeon doesn't have the common courtesy to explain what he did and why my surgery was not easy peasy!!! Fyi get a second opinion before having surgery and trusting the surgeon! At 50 years old I shouldn't be walking like I'm 80!!!

Then, after the basic follow-ups, say two years later, he will abandon you, giving you tales of his suffering in pain, of his wearing compression hose, of taking diclophenac tablets, then going on a rant about age and God, while totally disregarding your issues. Avoid him, as there are other orthopedic surgeons who are far more honest, compassionate, and competent.

Over the course of 3 1/2 years, I have received three arthroscopic knee reconstruction surgeries…read morefor torn ligaments. First two surgeries were performed by Dr. Anthony L. Agtarap. MRI images have indicated that the injury on my knee went beyond just an ACL tear, and I had significant lateral instability on my knee probably from a tear on my MCL. In my first surgery, Dr. Agatarap replaced my ACL with one taken from a cadaver after I injured my knee in high school football. To be completely honest, even after my physical therapy was and almost a year has passed since the surgery, the stability on my knee did not return at all. I was a very physically-active 18 year old at the time, and I tore my knee again the moment I attempted to play sports that required lateral movements. At the time of my second injury, I was only running to catch a football while wearing a heavy-duty Breg Fusion knee brace that was prescribed to me. Before my second surgery, I have explained to him the lateral instability on my knee that was probably a result from a tear on my MCL, and how easily I have injured it since the first surgery. His solution was merely to use a larger cadaver to replace the ACL. Needless to say, just like the first surgery, I couldn't even tell if anything was changed in my knee even after the physical therapy was completed and almost a year has passed since the second surgery date. Being even more careful than the first time, I attempted to shoot hoops by myself while wearing a heavy-duty brace, to see how the knee performed. Within a few 30-minute sessions, the knee "slid" laterally and the ACL was torn again. While Dr. Agatarap insisted on performing a similar third surgery, I was not willing to give him a third chance. I went to University of Washington Sports Medicine to see a different doctor, whom apparently used to be Dr. Agatarap's mentor while he was in medical school. Looking at the injury on my knee, he performed a much more elaborate surgery, replacing not only the ACL but MCL as well, and inserting pins to secure the instability and artificially creating scar tissues on various areas to stimulate recovery. It has been almost 3 years since my third surgery, and there has been no additional injury on my knee, despite the fact that I have been actively playing contact sports such as football or basketball. There was a world of difference in regards to the stability, after my physical therapy was completed. At this point, I am convinced that Dr. Agatarap has botched his two surgeries with me, mainly because he neglected to listen to the patient and failed to appropriately treat my condition. To be completely frank, the first two surgeries made almost no improvements on my knee. The bottom line is that I will not recommend Dr Agtarap to anyone, especially if you lead an active lifestyle. Even if my knee didn't feel fully stable, I had no choice but to try being active on it, as I was enrolled in a Reserve Officer Training Corp. No additional recovery could have been expected once the physical therapy was completed, and I needed to make the best out of my knee which clearly was not enough. Thanks to Dr. Agtarap, my ROTC career was cut short and my full-ride scholarship was rescinded. I can understand that the first surgery was probably appropriate for a first-time injury, but the temerity of Dr. Agatarap has caused me to injure my knee for the third time. The absolute least he could have done for me was to refer a better surgeon, like his mentor at the University of Washington.

I have worked with some very good PTs over the years. Zach and Stephanie are better! The care and attention they (and their team) provide is top notch, and they are incredibly knowledgeable. I have never felt rushed through my appointments, and have plenty of dedicated 1:1 time with my PT. Their PTA's, Damon & Svenja are just as amazing as Zach & Stephanie. Guiding you through your stretches & exercises, providing incredible support and expertise to make sure you're doing it right. As with any PT program, you have to trust the process. My baseline was unable to leverage a glass of water in front of me, and unable to sit or stand for more than 30 minutes without significant pain. Stephanie started me off with such tiny movements and stretches that I wondered if it would even work. The end result has been steady progress without any major setbacks, and the appropriate amount of discomfort. (You just can't avoid discomfort when you're rebuilding musculature) Stephanie takes into consideration my day to day life, how I need (and want) to function, and has tailored treatment to help me move through the world on my terms. All while getting closer every day to being pain free. The warmth and connection from them to their patients is felt the instant you walk through the door. I am confident they can help anyone. Over the last several months I have watched them rehab teens with sports injuries, middle aged folks with chronic injuries, and seniors recovering from surgery. Don't hesitate, just make the appointment!
