I hired Rapid Garage Doors on 12/12/2016 to replace both of my garage door springs for $225. When they finished, the garage door worked and things seemed ok. Their mistakes did not begin to reveal themselves until one of the "new" springs snapped in May 2019.
Spring failure in under 2,000 cycles (1/5 of average life) is unacceptable, especially given that:
(1) The garage is air conditioned as needed, substantially reducing the humidity.
(2) The springs are oiled on a regular basis.
(3) My garage door operates about half as much as the average one.
I emailed Rapid Garage Doors on 5/28/2019, attached pictures, explained the problem, and asked what they thought happened. After I emailed again on 5/29/2019, I finally received a response on 5/30/2019 from Maria. She implied the spring failure was from humidity/moisture and/or lack of maintenance, then told me it would cost $289 to replace the pair (28% increase). Not surprisingly, she failed to mention that springs can also break due to:
(1) Incorrect size for door (door too heavy).
(2) Springs manufactured long before installation (aging has already begun).
An experienced professional from one of South Florida's leading well-respected garage door companies performed an inspection before making the necessary repairs.
First, the 273x2x36 springs installed by Rapid Garage Doors were not appropriate for my garage door, which weighs approximately 500 pounds.
Second, the springs they installed in 2016 were manufactured ~2009 (7 years earlier). These "new" springs were older than the original ones they replaced, since the entire door was replaced in 2010.
I don't know if their intentions were good or bad, but I personally will never hire them again and would not recommend them to anyone else. read more
