The call button was never answered in under a half hour. Average weight was an hour. On two occasions during the weight for a bell response I had a BM while waiting for help to the bedside commode. They knew I couldn't sit for over a half hour and was left in the wheelchair after rehab for at least an hour and on two occasions two hours. I used "briefs" in the beginning because I couldn't use the bedside commode yet. On one occasion I was put in clean briefs at 10 p.m. I requested clean briefs and to be rolled on three occasions during the night and when the rehab therapist came in at 10 a.m. to take me to physical therapy she discovered there was nothing dry on the bed. It had been twelve hours since cleaning. My daughter came on almost a daily basis and when there was no response to the bell she would go out and the staff was gathered at the central hall chattering with every light on in the hall. At one point I had to wait almost three hours after I was to receive pain medication. The management turned their head when told about problems. There were two R.N.'s on duty for 66 patients. When told the resident doctor would be in touch about a medication issue I never heard from them. There are some staff that deserve a good review, but they are greatly outnumbered by those who don't care about the residents and only seem to show up for the socialization. Of course they blame the problems on being short staffed when the real problem is getting the staff they have off their butts and do some work.

However, the hassle and inconvenience of dealing with repeated messes created by the inept and unprofessional receptionist/office worker can't be overlooked. I have never experienced such an persistantly aggravating situation with a medical practice. Prior to my first appointment, she insisted that I obtain a referral, even though I verified with my insurance company that I did not need one. This cost me $100 out of pocket, and was time wasted before therapy could begin. At my first appointment, she asked questions but did not listen to the answers, was distracted, interrupted her own work to chatter, and wouldn't allow me to fill out my history and intake forms, insisting it was easier if she did it. This resulted in her repeating my personal information loudly in front of all in the one-room facility until I declined to repeat my SSN again and finished the form myself. She recorded some of that information incorrectly- confusing guarantor information with patient's information - which necessitated multiple calls to the insurance company on my part. She then filed numerous visit claims incorrectly causing those claims to be denied. I had to spend hours on the phone over weeks, as each mistake occurred, to provide correct explanation to the insurance company and have the claims resubmitted correctly for processing. Pam greets you everyday with a smile and always gets any issue with scheduling resolved right away. Every single physical therapist and Doctor here is amazing. Kyle,Julie,Marlon,Renee and Corby all feel more like family. I feel I have improved tremendously since I first started coming 2 months ago. They truly encourage you and help you get back to your normal self. The environment is relaxed and you eventually start getting to know the other clients that are regulars too. I would recommend everyone to come here. I have gotten muscles firing that I haven't felt in a long time. I owe that to everyone here at active physical therapy Hagerstown. Since everyone is so friendly and positive, it's a really great environment to be in, which makes physical therapy fun and enjoyable. The patients all feel like friends. Balance currently has 4 DPT (doctor of physical therapy) and 5 PTA (physical therapy assistant). They are all great and work together as a team. Because they have so many physical therapists (and constantly hiring), they can see a patient multiple times a week. They see all ages of patients. My mother has been in Shenandoah Center for over a year. She initially went in for rehab following…read morea fall that required surgery for a brain bleed. She had been living with my husband and I, and I'd been her caregiver for years. It was so hard to leave her in a new place, but the staff went out of their way to make mother and me feel comfortable. From the therapy department, nursing staff, activities staff..all were wonderful! We had to make the hard decision to transition her to skilled nursing care there and not bring her back home. As hard as this time with the quarantine has been, I'm so thankful she's been at Shenandoah. The administration and all the staff have been wonderful to go out of their way to keep the residents engaged and the families informed. My mother has dementia, so it's not easy for them, but they have been so loving and understanding with mother. I've had peace of mind knowing she's loved and well cared for there.
