Mixed Chat and Dahi Vada yesterday
Kiran S.

Been shopping here for years. After previous iffy experiences with product quality, resistance to accepting returns (due to quality issues), staff attitudes, etc., glad to report that things have improved. Latest visit yesterday was pleasant and met our needs. Staff were very friendly and helpful - the star is always the relatively elderly gentleman at checkout- such a polite, decent, friendly, and helpful person. A great ambassador for the store. Found everything we needed and also stopped at the cafe for a snack - there too things have improved significantly, selection, quality, and price-wise. Although mainly staffed by Hispanics, their preparation of Indian food is generally spot on! Enjoyed the new Mixed Chat and Dahi Vada yesterday. The only downside is that customers need to be less messy at the tables and clean up after themselves. The staff too need to be more vigilant and clean after every occupancy. The tables, chairs, surroundings had remnants of previous meals on them. All in all, a good visit...Hope it remains that way!

What a pleasant surprise to find the largest dosa I've ever seen. Two people were needed to finish this. We dined-in and tried the mango lassi and the complimentary chai on the weekends. Who would have known there was this little gem of a grocery store adjacent restaurant in the middle of the suburbs?

I am never let down when I come to Rani's. Normally, I probably would have complained about the seating area or the ambiance of the actual place itself, but then I remind myself that I'm not eating at a 5 star restaurant. For a cafe that is attached to a Indian market, they've done a good job in maintaining the restaurant. Tables are usually clean, food is exceptionally great, and service is good. Portion sizes are good for the price they are charging. I love eating the Papdi Chaat or the Samosa Chaat.

Always go there for grocery and grab vegetarian food at the cafe. My all time favorite is papri chaat, masala dosa. You can try!

Loved this place. Affordable good food. Counter service. Small dining area inside an Indian grocery store. I'll definitely be back.

Came by to sample their weekly cheese rotation and somehow walked out with more than planned (zero…read moreregrets). We ended up leaving with the Salva Cremasco (my BF's pick) while I chose a random interesting-looking cheese called Screamer--because sometimes the mystery pick just calls to you. Half the fun here is getting to try cheeses you'd probably never think to bring home otherwise. The Salva Cremasco was surprisingly easy to love. Mild, buttery, and savory in a way that felt approachable rather than intimidating, with a smooth semi-firm texture that got creamier as you ate it. At first, it tasted very clean and milky with a light nuttiness, but the finish had this subtle earthy, almost mushroomy/vegetal note that kept things interesting without ever becoming funky or sharp. It felt like the kind of cheese you accidentally keep cutting "one more slice" of until suddenly... half of it is gone. We were also sold on trying the FLUFF Bake Bar cookies made with goat milk, which honestly felt very on-brand for the whole experience. Dangerous place for impulse purchases--but in the best possible way. What really keeps making this place memorable, though, is the people. I love the knowledgeable and warm welcome we always get from the staff. Even on a visit that barely lasted 15 minutes, they somehow still made the experience feel memorable--like you stopped by to chat with people who genuinely love what they do and want to share it with you.

I can't believe I've lived in Houston for this many years and never stopped by Houston Dairymaids…read more I learned that they're the backbones of many restaurants' cheese selections, and I had to trace it back to the origin. A small, discreet shop with a backyard-like parking lot, it's unassuming on the outside but full of character on the inside. Upon entering, you're welcomed with samples of the five cheeses of the week, generally going from soft to firmer and stronger. Their cheeses are displayed in a small fridge, but you can always request varietals ahead of time if you've got something in mind. We bought blue cheese they had on sample (the "Ewe Calf to be Kidding" from Wisconsin, a triple-milk (sheep, cow, and goat)) and the last of their Capricorn Goat Blue cheeses for about $10/piece. Since they rotate out their cheeses weekly, it may become a regular stop on our weekend grocery trips (they mention that many people do that). They also mentioned that their wines rotate out and they have a good relationship with local distributors to understand what pairs well with their cheeses. They also let you start an account so that you can keep a history of all the cheese you buy. You better bet that I signed up. They're celebrating their 20 year anniversary in Houston. I wish I had come earlier to experience some of those years. It's got to be a cornerstone of Houston cheese and probably the among the best cheesemongers in Houston.

When I stepped inside I was delighted with the surplus of gorgeous foods and snacks from all over the world. Chocolates, candies, savory snacks, frozen foods, pastry cases that are yards long, a deli case to make others jealous, a chicken wing selection for every fans tastebud, an olive bar boasting 20 varieties, and so much more I didn't even discover. Their fresh foods were some of the prettiest I've seen and the pastry case was one I could have gazed at all day. In the end I left with one of their famous giant cookies and it was delicious. Prices seemed quite reasonable for the quality of the food and the area, and the staff were so nice! I mean my pocket book is probably better for it because I want to buy the whole store but honestly I've been missing out. The place is cute and welcoming from the corner sign on the building to the moment you step in- bright, inviting, great displays so you know where to go. You can't get lost in here with the signage, but you can't definitely get lost in the aisles with all the great, unique choices. The ready food display has so many Mediterranean treats, some I've had before some I've never heard of and everything I tried was amazing. We got the cabbage rolls and Armenian veggie dolmas. Great flavor, both specific items I haven't had before. Nice citrus, spiced flavor to these. I'd say they're have to try items. Not only found jarred tomato paste, which I've been on the hunt for but they had choices in this category and that's another first for me. Will have to go back and try the others. Also got the cured Serrano ham -amazing. And I thought the prices were going to be insane having a spot right in the middle of the city and nope- pleasantly surprised for my goodies, great prices even less than some of the other stores I frequent in the suburbs. I'll be back again and again and again until I try the whole store lol. Definitely give them a try, you won't regret it

My partner wanted to grab lunch here so we tried for the first time this place. We got a simple sandwich and elote which the staff said it should take 15-20 mins. We waited and waited it past 40+ mins and I went to ask. - First was that they lost our order number and they couldn't find it. - Second the manager began to say our order was taken by someone else and then that my partner grabbed it. Switching her words back and forth and not believing what we had said. I asked how did we grab our stuff if I still have the device to notify when our food is ready. - Third she completely stopped talking to us and went to go help at other customers. I told her we want our money back and she said, "well I'm not going to refund for the drinks you had". Ma'am, that's not how you run a business. Just admit you messed up and take ownership of your mistakes to help a customer out. - Fourth she mentioned that other tickets have been lost today and other foods have been stolen before. This just shows how disorganized this placed is. We were able to ask for our money back but it was a battle about it. I was disappointed because we wanted to support your business but at this service? Heck no! Do not come here. And from reading other reviews now we did not miss on the food.

Is this the grilled cheese that dreams were made of? Not in the slightest. Is it enough to scratch the grilled cheese itch? 100%. With their tagline as "comfort food with a twist" has become their mantra, they offer a myriad of signature sandwiches that include the 5 cheese classic -- a blend of several premium cheeses and even protein heavy sandwiches, like the Twisted Pig, stacked with ham, bacon, and pepperoni with a hefty side of indulgence. I don't know if it tastes remotely close to the original food truck location, but I think it's a solid start. Other gourmet offerings include their Halal Philly grilled cheesesteak, truffle mushroom, smokehouse brisket, and buffalo chicken. Their cheesecake donut holes are always a hit though the nutella sandwiches are also a big one, along with he funnel cake fries. While I've got a lot of respect for the creative process, I haven't had tried anything that has truly wow'd me. While the sandwiches were decent and pretty to look at, I haven't found one that stands out enough for me to order on a regular basis. While the cheese pulls are fun and the mac and cheese bites are comatose, they're average execution at best. Service hasn't been the most attentive either. They've really got a great concept, nice branding, and clearly enough buzz to warrant multiple locations around the city. Whether it's this spot at POST or another location, I'm hoping they find their footing soon.
