I recently dropped by the Daviess County Gun Club for a round of sporting clays and was wholly…read moreimpressed with everything they have to offer. If you're planning on heading there yourself, make note of the location on a map. The street address listed will get you fairly close, but if you're using GPS or Google Maps you'll need to head further southwest on KY2830 than the address suggests. The DCGC actually has a very large sign that's visible from the road and it's definitely welcome given the ambiguity of the street address. The facilities themselves are very nice. There's a centrally located clubhouse surrounded by two trap fields, two skeet fields, one five stand field, and sporting clays. Trap and skeet both looked to have sound-activated launchers available, but I didn't actually use them the day I stopped by. I was there for the sporting clays range, which is certainly one of the main attractions. It turns out the DCGC actually has two sporting clays ranges: a half-course consisting of five stations and a full course consisting of ten. I only made it through the half-course on the day I stopped by, but I'm definitely looking forward to returning to give the full course a shot. The half-course was well constructed and plenty challenging. The launchers were all in very good working order. I think I only had one bad launch all day. Also noteworthy: the battery-operated launchers are all hooked up to solar panels, meaning the launchers should be mostly self-sustaining and minimize the environmental impact by reducing the number of batteries needing to be changed. The half-course consisted entirely of report-pair scenarios, with 4 out of the 5 stations relying on report-pairs from a single launcher. This takes a little of the challenge out of it, but I understand the full course has a few true-pair scenarios. Prices were very typical. $15 half-round of sporting clays. $30 full-round. $6 trap. There are discounts available for members of the actual DCGC. The staff I talked to were very friendly and easy to work with. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in the area.

Had a…read morebrand new malfunctioning Bersa shipped to them from my local FFL in mid-May and it's now about to be August and they're just telling me it's shipping out after having said two weeks ago that it's basically top of the list and should "definitely" be at my dealer by the 30th (it won't). I am never buying Bersa again until they step up their warranty fulfillment game. This level of performance is abysmal for a "quality" handgun manufacturer. Will be sticking with Sig from here onward.

Not…read morehaving ever had formal pistol training before, I feared it might be pretty generic and geared to the lowest common denominator. It's anything but! The course instructor, Jeremiah, is a true subject matter expert who has mastered the skills and techniques he teaches. He has boundless energy and enthusiasm for teaching and does a great job of instructing and coaching. Jeremiah is very dedicated to assuring his students fix what's not working and make continuous improvement. Despite the fact he's very good at pistol handling and shooting, he doesn't leave his students feeling inferior. Much of the training involves safety, drawing the weapon from the holster, dry firing, and then live fire after which Jeremiah analyzes each student's target results for corrective action. I highly recommend training with Jeremiah at Panther Ridge. It's a tremendous value and if students approach the course with the right attitude and practice what they are shown, improvement in pistol handling and shooting is guaranteed.
