Retailers located here include Boots, Clarks, JD Sports, Next and Vision Express. There is a much larger selection of shops on the high street, outside of the shopping centre, but I always prefer indoor centres especially on the cold, rainy days which we get more of our fair share of in England! My favourite area of the shopping centre is "The Vaults", which is the basement of the shopping centre. They've made it look very nice, with the exposed brickwork and it is also home to restaurants including Nando's and Prezzo. There is also a cinema within the mall from, Light Cinema. More recently, the mall is being used by the Bolton GP Federation and the NHS to provide COVID-19 vaccinations, I love this idea as it is helping the local community have easy access to vaccinations in the town centre. Many empty units sadly... it is such a shame to see as this mall really does have potential. Despite being rather empty, it still has a nice feel to it and the mall security to feel safe. 3*

A few months on and more improvement, they deserve another star!…read more Things are looking up for the market place and they are slowly transforming it into a place you'd want to spend your time. Football season is over for me which means Saturday's are now free again - the missus loves that - that also means I am open to be dragged around shopping centres each weekend now.. It was FA Cup final day however and luckily she does like Football so we decided instead of a trip to Manchester, we'd venture into Bolton and see what the developments were looking like. Definitely an improvement on my last visit a few month ago, and we spent just under 2 hours here on Saturday, which 5 years ago you just simply couldn't do! The 'Vaults' are open and starting to have more and more going on there, so far: Prezzo, Nandos and Great Ale are in there but Chef's Quarter and couple more offerings are in the works. The best thing about this visit was seeing the weekend markets! The market place has not had individual market stall since I was a wee kipper - so a good 15 years and it's great see them bringing back the old school approach even with the new modern building!

One of the larger stores in Bolton town centre, Marks and Spencer have a good store on Deansgate…read morewhich has improved since my last visit back in 2017. Due to COVID, they are only using the front entrance at the minute, I'm not sure why they aren't using the entrance which is located by the Food Hall, considering this is the only part of the store that is open due to UK government lockdown restrictions. The store had a pretty good selection in most areas, especially the Marks and Spencer Gastropub range, it was a shame that the Free From section was pretty small with multiple empty shelves in that department, and there didn't seem to be as many fresh counters here as my local store in Manchester, but the product range wasn't bad nonetheless. This store also supports Marks and Spencer's new scan and go, where you can scan and bag items, pay on your phone and leave, this is the first time I've managed to use it as many stores either have awful signal, for example, my local store has the Food Hall in the basement meaning you can't connect to the app, and in other stores, it just failed to load, I loved doing this and it made my shopping experience easier, it isn't without its problems however as even though I was charged, the screen froze on the "payment failed" option, with no option to go back or get a receipt. The staff members seemed friendly and were happy to show me to the Free From section and tried to offer the support they could with the app, which is a new concept so is obviously going to have some teething problems, it's just lucky I didn't need a receipt. 4* - Large Marks and Spencer store with a good food hall and friendly staff.

This branch of Wilko is quite a large branch in Bolton centre, I've visited here twice now which is…read moresurprising as I haven't had chance to review it yet. This branch is on Deansgate in Bolton, in the city centre and is fairly close to MarketPlace, the town's main shopping centre. The store is basically a typical Wilko store, albeit it is quite a large size especially compared to other branches such as Harpurhey, and it possibly could stretch to be bigger than my most visited stores in Middleton, Manchester, albeit I can't comment for certain as they are similar. The staff didn't seem really friendly and welcoming, just average and the location could have been better as it could have stood out and been better in the Marketplace Mall, which is nice and has been recently refurbished after putting in a dining quarter. but still the store would be slightly smaller then, yet the location would of course be better so that brings in this situation where Wilko "Can't win" in a way without spending intense amount of money. Overall, there isn't lots of things which makes this store stands out and it sadly is around the average mark, but not enough to warrant anything over two stars I'm sorry to report.

I really liked it when I was a student studying in the UK for a semester because it was cheap and now I like it because sometimes I need something practical that I can't seem to find anywhere else. I might also like a bit of pick 'n' mix :) While shopping in the town centre, I was looking for a place that sold pet items since I had struck out at some of the other shops I had been to. As I was walking to the bus stop, I saw this Wilko and thought I would pop in and see if they have what I needed. This store has two floors... home goods, kitchen items, etc. are on the bottom floor while toiletries, cleaning supplies, and pet items are on the ground floor. I forgot how inexpensive Wilko is and will have to go back for some Christmas lights! At the back of the store I found the pet section. While it is not a Pets At Home, it does the trick if you are in a pinch. They sell food, litter, cleaning supplies, and even toys... for dogs, cats, and other small animals. On my way to the till, I did not spot the pick 'n' mix display (probably for the best) and check out was very quick.
