UPDATE (5/19/2021): I just wanted to reiterate the reason I was dissatisfied, as the business owner's response misrepresents the issue. I am not upset that "when guests do not arrive at their appointment times, [the salon] has to move on the next scheduled guests." As is seen in the attached photo, we had reservations booked at specific times in the day (we did not ask for the whole day to be blocked...). At noon, the salon decided those confirmed times were meaningless, and went on to treat people in a manner that no one should be treated. No one tried to rectify the miscommunication or even apologize for their attitudes. Instead the salon continues to blame the customer - that is what I am upset about. Original Review (5/16/2021): We had hair and makeup booked with Dustyn, and her attitude was horrendous. I hate to write negative reviews of small businesses (esp. during covid), but the behavior of this esthetician was unacceptable. On top of the unprofessional environment created by Dustyn, she also miscommunicated appointment details and did not disclose any charges until the surprise at checkout. Our appointments were confirmed for 12:00, 12:45, 1:30, 2:15, and 3:00. We had informed her we (my husband and I) wanted our appointment to be the last one, which would have been at 3:00PM. We had a lot of wedding details to iron out during the first half of the day. At 12:06 she began harassing us (on our wedding day), and told us we needed to be at the salon immediately, despite agreeing that we would be done last - at 3:00PM. We tried to be accommodating, rushed there to get there at 1:00. When we got there, she was still finishing up another bridesmaid (so there was really no reason for us to be there anyway). We then learned that my sister (who was the most recent of the bridal party to have paid), was charged for everyone's hair & makeup since her card was the last one on file. We tried to straighten this out, only to be berated by Dustyn and staff. We finally told them just to switch the charge to our card since I didn't want to put that anxiety on my sister - and decided to continue working out the details after the unauthorized charge to my sister was reversed. read more

I've been using Yelp for reviews for years now, but have never posted a review. Seems past time for me to start reciprocating for the good advice I've received. Last summer, I was visiting family in Newport and in desperate need of having my CND brand "Shellac" manicure redone. My color comes from layering 2 different shades of Shellac polish. In my experience, many nail technicians are unable to do this properly. Some salons even say they use "Shellac" but save money by using other brands of gel base and top coats & less expensive curing lamps. I have been getting this same type of manicure for over a year, so I can tell when corners are cut. After Googling to find that RaNew was one of the salons that offer CND Shellac manicures in the Newport area, I immediately checked Yelp for reviews. The reviews convinced me to give them a try. Samantha was the person that did my manicure. She did a very professional job, and it held up very well for 3 weeks. I was so pleased that I booked the same service with Samantha during two later visits to Newport. Samantha was slower than my manicurist at home, but the end result was more important to me. One other thing that I really liked was that they offer a free on-site parking lot. That is really important to me in downtown Newport. The price was within $5 of the amount I pay in CT. I consider that fair. This review is only about the Shellac manicure Services. I have no personal experience with any of their hair services. I want to start out by saying that I think Amy does a good job and I realize things can happen as times, but I am appalled by the service I received from this salon. I'm not an idiot to complain about something that I know went wrong. My roots were CLEARLY a different color, yet the stylist did not take responsibility nor did your staff. Even if the same formula was used, you should have fixed it with no question. I was baffled that all they could say was that the same color was used and tried to say it was the original band that was actually GONE during my last 2 colors. My hair was a much lower level and not one person in that salon, including the owner had anything to say about it. There was no responsibility taken and the first thing that was said is I would owe you another 50 dollars. They had the gall to have your stylist confirm I needed to go to the register to pay (Which of course I would because it was demanded) and then demanded a tip..............My hair now has the band back from being at a level 4 and I will have to further rectify by resuming to travel to more high quality salon that's not in this area. The spend is close to or over to 1500 with this salon in the last 3 months............I have my roots done every 3 weeks, keratin treatments, cuts and glosses. They have lost at lease 4K worth of yearly business and I've also sent you 2 referrals which will be eradicated. Behavior was unacceptable and I hope the 50 bucks plus 10 tip was worth it. read more

I originally was going to Ki-Ra Salon on W. Marlborough, but heard from a friend that the Ra in Ki-Ra had moved to lower Thames, and the girl she'd recommended went with them. I saw Megan and explained how much I hated my last haircut from Natural Creations, also on lower Thames, I wanted a trim from them and the stylist chopped off over three inches...which sucked because I've been growing my hair out and truly wanted just the dead ends trimmed, and shape added. Megan was great, she listened and did exactly what I wanted. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because when she was doing her job and trying to upsell coloring and highlights I had to explain to her more than once that I'm perfectly happy with my natural red highlights and that I'm never going to be someone who dyes my hair...right before checkout three girls behind the counter made snide remarks about how they shouldn't waste their time on me because I'm one of those girls who doesn't dye or highlight their hair...I was seriously sitting less than 10 feet away... They could have waited until I was out the door before they made snotty comments about me. I still re-booked, so we'll see what the attitude is next time when I'm sure I'll have to explain again that I'm not interested in highlights...or coloring...or whatever else they are trying to sell. If you are tired of way over paying for a haircut, RaNew is great. It's $35 for a haircut, and they use organic products not tested on animals, which are all pluses in my book. read more

I eloped in Newport and took a chance getting my hair done at this salon. I definitely wasn't disappointed. The staff was friendly to my sister and I, offering us beverages while we waited. The stylist listened to what I was asking her to do with my hair and actually nailed it. Usually when you want something elegant and SIMPLE, they want to add more and more, but my stylist kept it simple and it was exactly what I wanted. Not only that, but both my and my sister's stylist were genuinely interested in my elopement and offered suggestions for interesting places to check out around town. My sister has short hair and was worried about a lack of options, but they gave her a really cute up do that she didn't think could happen on her short hair. Since I was in HS, I have yet to find someone/somewhere where I liked my haircut enough to go back. I have been trying lots and lots of salons in the area for the past few years, and after a referral from my friend.. am so glad I ended up here! My friend referred Laura, and I have seen her twice now! I am the type of person where I don't really care what is done to my hair.. as long as there is no dye involved! I give Laura the freedom to kind of do whatever she wants for length and style.. and it always comes out looking amazing! I mentioned that I wanted to learn to curl my hair with a straightener, and she took the time to teach me! A clean and young salon, with lots of magazines, jewelry, and easy to get into. It is in the perfect location downtown to go grab some wine after with your new do! EXCELLENT Salon! Let me start by saying I've been getting my hair done at salons for over 20 years. In addition, my husband is in the Navy, so we moved every 1-2 years from one coast to the other. This is the first time I've ever tried my shot at one salon and they nailed it right off the bat! I saw Megan. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do color-wise and Megan took her time and explained different color options. It's the first time a stylist actually took that much time explaining and showing me different options. She had great ideas and knew exactly what I was going for. My hair turned out perfect! I couldn't be more pleased! I went from mostly blonde to a red/brown with some highlights. Another thing about Megan was that she was so personable and friendly. The price was extremely reasonable! Also, I can't even remember the last time I got out of a salon in under 3-4 hours. The average for me is usually 3 1/2-4 and Megan gave me at least a 10-15 minute consult, colored, highlighted, cut and blew dry my hair in 2 hours and 20 minutes! Yet she never rushed and totally took her time. I had more done to my hair this visit than other times at other salons and it was less time and all other salons were more pricier and didn't do near as good as a job as Megan! I highly recommend this salon and while I was there I saw 2 other stylists have 2 other clients whose hair came out very nice as well. I'd be happy with any of the stylists there. So happy I found ReNew and know that for the next 14 months we are living in Newport, my hair will look great thanks to Megan! read more

First time here last Thursday - had highlights, cut, and style done by Laura. It was a great experience! Laura was very knowledgeable and eager to please. We chatted about Newport life. Very down to earth. She described all of the products she used before she used them on my hair (including a cool "New Blonde/5 Minute Blonde" product that made my hair look awesome!) . I felt very comfortable there - nothing stuffy or over-the-top. The salon was extremely clean and comfortable. Great atmosphere. Laura offered me coffee or water while m color was processing. Tons of magazines to choose from! They offer lots of spa services too - like manis, pedis, and waxing. Laura told me that they are getting spray tanning very soon! It was a bit expensive, but I got a lot done and it looks perfect, so it's worth it! I will be returning here for the 5 Minute Blonde service every 6-8 weeks. Yay! read more

I see Bethany monthly for a Brazilian and eyebrow waxing, and have always thought she does an amazing job. I was a Ki-Ra customer and made the transition to RaNew to follow Megan, who has been cutting and coloring my hair for around three years now. She has taken my originally fried and over-dyed blonde mop through different styles and colors. I've gotten compliments for three years straight! Many of my friends have also started booking her for their hair. Megan's own hair inspires me each time I see her- she keeps up with the trends and knows how to execute them. My hair has been dark brown, bright red, blonde, and everything in between. I even had beautiful streaks or chunks of other crazier colors mixed in on occasion, and she has pulled everything off with style and the health of my hair in mind. She's very up front about what my hair can take, what transitions have to be made gradually, and what products I actually need to maintain healthy hair. She has never EVER mislead me regarding pricing or steps she needs to complete my style or color. The other girls in the shop are also very friendly and helpful. I recently got a manicure at RaNew and was very satisfied. They have the new line of Shellac and are willing to layer colors and offer advice regarding nail trends. I booked an appointment to have my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted. The salon is clean and open...but the room where I has this done was tight and cramped. I asked the lady before tinitng if my eyebrows needing waxing, she didn't respond. She began placing the tint on. The first time she placed it on, you could hardly tell a difference. So, she placed more on but made them black, mine are a lighter brown. She then went to my eyelashes. After the process, she tried taking the solution off but it mostly got into my eyes causing them to burn. I won't be coming back here read more

I have been going to Rachel for almost 5 years now (back when she was at Ki-Ra as well). I have tried places in NYC, DC and even Buenos Aires and honestly no one can cut my hair as well as she does! I come back home to newport to visit my family but always get my hair cut when Im back. If you have curly hair and get it styled layered/thinned, she is THE best :) Staff is always friendly, and $40 for a haircut is not bad at all. I went in for a full foil and bleach was left on my head for at least a half an hour. the stylist I had never even got close to touching up my roots like she was supposed to. she just painted over the highlights I already had! Then, she put a base lift on my head that turned my hair orange... My hair even fell out. I left there looking like I got a haircut. They tried to act like they did nothing wrong at all. This place is AWFUL!!!! And that is being polite. The overall atmosphere is blah, inside joking and chatting with the stylist making the customer as in my case a new customer really feel out of place. I had told my hair stylist what I was wanting, what I had been getting prior to moving here as far as color etc, um yeah. I washed my hair once after it was highlighted and felt like whatever she had put on my roots had literally washed right off of my head! Its my fault I should have called right away and complained or asked to have it fixed but I was so upset with my overall experience there that I kept putting it off and realized I wasted a lot of money there. The price was not worth the service I received! I also went there for a Brazilian wax and had Bethany (they have another person there who does waxing now too so I don't want Bethany trying to blame her for her mistakes). Another worst experience ever, this was not my first go around so I knew what to expect but let me tell you she could care less about your comfort to any level, she was not very professional and she double dipped.
