Boy is this a throwback to "old time" Cleveland. The Hillson website indicates they moved into this building in the '50's, even though it had been a powerplant type of building from the 1930's. One look at it, and it probably has you asking what was this building was because it does appear quite unique (seems to be more taller and squat). Anyway, their location is off Dearborn St., which is off of W 73rd street, which is between Clark and Dennison. Sounds residential. Yep, it is. For some reason it's located at the end of a residential street in a neighborhood that is greatly deteriorated (so don't think you are pulling into Crocker Park!). Up a couple of stairs and you walk into a very small room (maybe 10X10). On the wall is a list of the nuts, along with their prices. Everything seems to be sold in 1 lb bags. The cashier counter at the end of the room has a bell to summon service and still remains plexiglassed off from the customer Not sure if this is because of the area or not). In fact, I have no idea how they got me my bag of nuts. Maybe they opened up the door and handed it to me. All the basic nuts were covered (yes, pine nuts also) with a variety of options/flavors for peanuts. I picked up a honey roasted peanut along with a Siracha Ranch peanut and some pecans and walnuts for baking. I have tasted the two peanut varieties and am very pleased. They taste fresh, crunchy and tasty. This really is a step back in time. While there may not be too much to see (you could see the production floor through the plexiglass and there are old, yellowed articles on the wall), it is something I highly, highly recommend you visit, especially if you are a fan of nuts! You have an option of adding onions or skipping them. I chose to skip the onions. The pierogis came with a generous amount of sour cream - 3 sides! I was very happy with the presentation. Who can say no to pierogi bucket?! In terms of the taste, I wasn't fully satisfied. Perhaps it's because I'm rating this as someone Eastern European with certain pierogi expectations. To me the dough was very well cooked. The inside (potato) tasted like it came out of a package as dry potato, which was disappointing. Pierogis tasted too bland, not enough salt or flavor. I would be much happier if they contain real potato and would be more flavorful. Still, I hope to stop by at Perla and order more to go orders. I'm especially interested in trying other options. They have Dubai pierogi which seems like such a tasty and viral idea!

I came to Cleveland for pierogies, and gosh darn it, I was going to eat as many as I could. These were the best pierogies I had on my trip, although I ultimately regretted my decision to order them fried. I prefer them boiled and have a feeling I would have enjoyed them even more that way. I wish I had rented an Airbnb instead of staying in a hotel so I could have taken some of the uncooked pierogies home with me. Service was fast and friendly. This is much more of a carryout spot than a sit-down restaurant, but I grabbed one of the few tables. No drinks of any kind. Had I done a little research, I would have known that beforehand. Maybe I was a little too impulsive on this one. And for an unexpected dose of nostalgia, they were using the exact same plates my parents had when I was a kid. I never expected a plate to trigger childhood memories, but there they were.

You can't get much better than buying cheese right from the source. While you're in the WSM, get a Lemon Sugar crepe from Crepes Du Luxe, a Brat from Frank's, and some spicy jerky from J & J Czuchraj. I dever you. I double dever you. The woman there (who I am now sure is Irene) is a sweetheart and even if the products were not as perfect, she'd earn 5 just by herself.

He didn't offer to give ne a deal....or anything just like I will put them back! He obviously does not care about customers returning. He makes his money. I will not be returning here and I am loyal. And as always, the folks were friendly and super-helpful! Besides that damn credit card minimum, I see not one negative about this place. You'd think it wouldn't be hard to rack up a hefty price tag with all their awesome poultry products, but everything is so cheap it's crazy! We got 3lb of chicken tenders to marinate for kabobs and 4 beer brats, which just got us over the $10 min. Let me just say the brats alone were worth $10 in taste alone and I'm definitely coming back for the burgers and breakfast sausages! The tenders were perfectly trimmed, mild and... well, tender! I typically pound out chicken a little but with these it wasn't needed. Kaufmann, you have my poultry business for life!

They are so busy I usually call a day or 2 before and put my order in The spicy Italian is my favorite. I also really like the traditional chicken breakfast sausage. Have you ever had chicken sausage where you bite into a piece and you can not chew it. Totally disgusting. This never happens here. I sometimes buy the spicy Italian in bulk and make a huge pot of spaghetti sauce with mushrooms and San Marzano tomatoes. The other poultry products are very good. The chicken appears really fresh and is pretty tasty. They also have really friendly customer service. Places like this make it almost impossible to go vegetarian! They even have rabbit meat. The pickling cucumbers we bought were washed, dried and spread out awaiting morning picking (our usual process) but, this year, many of the pickles had grayish-brown fuzz (MOLD?) on them in the morning!!! I sorted through them and did not pickle!! These pickles were NOT FRESH!!! (Oh well) ...then yesterday we did u pick ROMA TOMATOES AND BANANA PEPPERS...the tomatoes are very nice...the banana peppers (as we are processing them today) are iffy and looked like they did not age well overnight! lots of mushy spots!! but when we were transferring the bushel of tomatoes (about 50 lbs) to a bag , I was struggling tipping the heavy bushel of tomatoes into the bag (I did not peppers) ...(my husband couldn't do it 'cause he just had abdominal surgery and did not get the release from his surgeon yet)....we asked the youngish guy who I just paid for a hand...he refused to help me!! so we got into a p'ng match when he swore at us , then he ended the argument when he spilled the bushel of tomatoes all over the inside of the trunk of my car!! What a jerk! Definitely not the same people I used to patronize.
