The owner makes everything here with love and heart. My absolute favorite was the cookie sandwich with vanilla custard. The custard really is superior in creaminess and texture. Not too sweet and was so decadent. Very rich. They also baked their cookies in house and they cut it in half for me on request. I would come back again and again just for this cookie sandwich. You can see in the back they are making everything in house and at night they have a long line because people know how good this place is and it's SO worth it!! They offer a wide variety of toppings and fruits that everyone will be happy! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Andy's wasn't founded until 1986. I'm not sure of Randy's exact history, but it's pretty clear from their decor that they've been around for longer. Andy's even seems to have stolen the cone sign and general theme from Randy's. Do not let that fool you, however. Randy's has legit custard with tons of mix-in options. And it's cheap AF! I had a concrete with blackberry and pineapple. Think that's a sin? (I know we're in the Ozarks), but go ahead and let these two flavors mix together. It's absolutely worth it. Since then, I've expanded my dessert palate quite a bit. I was worried 1) Randy's closed and 2) the custard wouldn't be how I remembered. Well...0 for 2. Randy's was indeed open and the custard was still some of the best I've had and most unique. You just can't recreate the flavor at Pinkberry, Yogurtland, Menchie's, etc. They have an insane amount of flavors (40+?) and their specials are all awesome. Any of the turtle specials are delicious and a small meal. It says a lot about a local business to last this long with how much turnover you typically see in local owned businesses. The coldest day of the spring and this guy was still open!! Thank goodness too because my kids were begging to go to "the place with the giant ice cream cone outside". The guy at the window was friendly and didn't rush my kids (I probably would've if it were me). He was patient and friendly. The ice cream was delicious! Note*** if you've never been here before you might not see that there IS an indoor area where you can eat your ice cream. Sadly, I think this review is a result of my pressured and poor choice of dessert. I love ice cream and in a panic I decided to go with the Turtle Supreme which has too much brownie and other toppings/mixtures for my liking. It was too rich for me even though I tried to force myself to work through it. From what I could tell from the little bit of ice cream I had, it tasted so creamy and smooth. I'm sure I would have loved it had I ordered something else. I doubt this will be my last time here as I hope to be spending more summers near the lake. Missing attributes to achieve 5 star - Additional napkins for youth, don't take cash and serve food without changing gloves, finish order before moving to next customer or have window for ordering and pickup. (We ordered and last item was in front customers behind us on counter while they ordered). Most importantly - balance consistency of toppings with ice cream. The ONLY place better on the planet for frozen custard is Ted Drewes in St. Louis. That's right. This is nearly on par with TD. THAT is quite an accomplishment. I came here visiting as a kid 10...20...stop, numbers don't matter right? years ago. In so many years, nothing has changed. And that's a GREAT thing! Their custard is so wonderful. Just seeing the long line and happy folks sitting in front eating their frozen custard concoctions lets you know that this is the stuff. In fact, my brother-in-law said his shake was the best he had in years. I ordered an Ozark Turtle and my husband ordered a brownie thing. Both were full of non-custard ingredients - even the expensive ones like nuts - and were really, really good. Many of the items on the menu mix salty (like pretzels or salted nuts) and gooey sweetness (carmel, hot fudge, or both) for a really tasty result.
